RobReapz
hi guys. after lots of recommendations about leaving virgin i went and got a bt line. however when i ping plotter 8.8.8.8 these are the results btping.png Try tracing a diff server like www.bbc.co.uk or somewhere local to you and see what your results are, the google server has bin a bit dodgy recently. ColonicBoom
And also set the trace interval to 2.5 seconds, 1 second sometimes seems to give funny results

Dillinger
I like the use of the 1 second intervals personally, as you are measuring between test points, so the closer they are together, the more accurate the graph. Question on the Ping Plot timing: Was this the only thing running during the test? No one else in the home or nothing else streaming/downloading/etc? That first graph is a nightmare, but as stated, the Google DNS has been giving some funny readings, especially for my UK brothers. I'll be honest, Zennon is the best source for info we have right now on this stuff. Barring his stopping by, I am concerned about those hops showing 100% packet loss, but the sampling seems to be every 15 mins? If so, we need to rerun this test to be able to tell anything. Best bet, no internet traffic but Ping Plotter, small sample sets like 1 sec and give it an hour or so. Capture that during peak and off peak times to compare. bagsta69
Some of the 100% pl can be attributed to servers that don't actually deal with ping for want of a better phrase and ignore the request . You really need to run the test for a few hours

Dillinger
Thanks. I'm reading (4) spikes over what I could consider the baseline (about 10ms) in that picture over the 30 min window. The highest of the spikes appears to add about 6ms of jitter, but that third hop. Can't say for sure, we probably need one of the much more knowledgeable types to be sure. If what Bagsta wrote above is correct, that some servers won't return a number and it defaults to 100% (or similar) then there are two hops in questions. 97.8% on hop 3, and then hop 11 which only has a 0.6% loss. Give it a few and one of the more expertly minded will stop by and offer insight.
ColonicBoom
Aye, Bags is correct on both counts; the packet loss and the 'few hours' to get a decent 'read' of the line. That last pic might be enough for Dr Zen to offer a prognosis though... It's weird how it drops low repeatedly though right? Looks weird compared to mine anyway. Not that anyone should aim to have a plot that looks like mine - mine looks like the himalayas.
Zennon
Try twitter.com As long as the packet loss is not coming from the routers or on the last hop is likely just a router using a different CPU path for TTL=0 packets than it does for routing data through As the last hop is packet loss free we can deduce that all is ok packet loss wise. RobReapz
im also getting packet loss when run diagnostics on the duma lossing between 3 and 5 packets The netduma uses the google server to do its diagnosis and because its seems to be playing up atm i wouldnt worry about this, unless your getting abnormalities on your network that is.
