Stealth_01
So i recently upgraded to bt infinity 2, the speed im getting currently with a wired connection on my macbook are 70 down and 18 up. And they're pretty consistent each time i do it. The issue im having is with the ping, I tested my ping on speedtest.net and got a ping of 30ms while it was wired. on the other hand i also have the ookla speedtest downloaded onto my phone. Here's the catch, doing a speedtest wirelessly with my phone i manage to get around 40 down and 15 up, but my ping comes up as 8ms??? Does anyone know how i can replicate this while having a wired connection? Ive been having pretty bad games so i thought id invest in this router. It hasnt really made much of a differance tbh, i shoot first die first and all the rest that comes with it. Im a complete noob when it comes to testing and tweeking settings for my net. Can someone please point me in the right direction as to what i need to do to give you a better understanding. All help will be much appreciated. Thanks
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 16, 2016 Administrators Share Posted May 16, 2016 Hey, welcome to the forum! The speeds/pings you're referring to is this through the ISP hub or the duma itself? You may have a faulty ethernet cable, try another but also ensure you're selecting the closest speed test server to you. If you need help with settings please post screenshots from here http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=lag_support_instructionsand we can help. Stealth_01
Hi Fraser, Firstly thank you for replying and getting back to me regarding this topic. And secondly to answer your question i did the speedtest on both the duma and at the BT Openreach modem. Ping times were both similar. 30 on the modem and 32 on the Duma. I'll give another ethernet cable a go, and post the results of them with the internet diagnosis throught the Netduma. Thanks
Stealth_01
Right, so just went on speedtest.net and got the following results, i managed to get higher speeds when i was connected directly to the modem?? why is this? Should my Duma be decreasing the speed by that much?? and the dsl report was done only via the duma.
Stealth_01
Right, so to put things into a better perspective ive taken screenshots of each page of the Netduma interface while carrying out the previous tests. Hope this helps..
Stealth_01
Heres the ping test analysis..
ColonicBoom
I tested my ping on speedtest.net and got a ping of 30ms while it was wired. on the other hand i also have the ookla speedtest downloaded onto my phone. Here's the catch, doing a speedtest wirelessly with my phone i manage to get around 40 down and 15 up, but my ping comes up as 8ms I just downloaded the Ookla app to test this and I get the same result. I made sure I pinged the same server on my laptop and on my phone. The laptop pings the server in 30-34ms (wired/wireless), the phone pings the server in 8ms (every time). My MacBook Pro is a lot more powerful than my phone and yet it has a slower ping to the same server... I doubt very much that these numbers are legit, so I have discounted them completely. In other words, ignore the app, it means nothing.
FQs19
Just checking, but are you pinging the same server in speedtest.net? If not, that would be the difference.
ColonicBoom
Just checking, but are you pinging the same server in speedtest.net? If not, that would be the difference. I am. The app is floored I expect, perhaps the ping bounces back off the hub itself or something weird.
Stealth_01
Hi guys, thanks for responding. Yh me too, i pinged the same server as i chose it myself manually. Hmm, i guess it is flawed by the sounds of it. Well thats the end of that. Cheers for all the help.
BENORMOUS
How recent was it that you upgraded to BT infinity?you may have interleaving on your line, when you go live with an isp you need to leave it connected for around 9 days so no resetting the hub unplugging etc, leave it connected and hopefully errors will clear on the line and you will go back to a fast path profile
BENORMOUS
Sorry looking at the pings via the duma diagnosis I'd say you don't have interleaving on your line, looks a solid 7 ping I'd also untick deep packet processing
Zennon
You are pinging to google in just under 8ms so all is good very nice ping best to do a netduma net diags at 8pm onwards peak time, but for now its looking sweet.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 17, 2016 Administrators Share Posted May 17, 2016 For the speed issue, untick deep packet processing & turbo mode in misc settings. Make sure anti-flood on 100%, reset device prioritisation & apply. Should get full speeds
