e38BimmerFN reacted to 648 USD - Wasted on DumaOS in DumaOS 4.0 - "Never Coming To The XR Series" - I PAID FOR DumaOS! SO I GET LAST YEARS UPDATES!
There Hi,
@Netduma Jack B
Thanks for the reply, though it left me feeling like you were aiming for sarcasm instead of solutionsâsomething I didnât quite expect from someone representing a company in a public forum. Letâs unpack a few things, shall we?
Just To Make Things Clear
Letâs practice some phonics together:
Netgear: Thatâs âNet-Gear,â as in the hardware company. DumaOS: Thatâs âDew-Mah-OS,â as in your software. Now, do these sound like the same thing? No.I didn't think so either. If you think they do , just ask around and see what others say captain obvious.
But hereâs the kicker: they are inextricably linked when it comes to the XR series, like peanut butter and jellyâexcept this sandwich has been sitting out for over a year.
So, when you clarify, âWeâre not the same company as Netgear,â itâs a bit like David denying he knows Goliath after taking the slingshot to the head.
Question 2: The Blame Game
Your explanation boils down to:
DumaOS: âWeâre ready to go, softwareâs done.â Netgear: âSorry, canât find our testing team to rubber-stamp your work.â I mean, really? Netgear, the worldâs largest router vendor, canât allocate resources for firmware testing? Sounds more like a power play than a resourcing issue. A year-long delay suggests something biggerâmaybe a lesson in âwhoâs the bossâ on the food chain? Iâd love to hear what actually happened in those âcollaborativeâ meetings. Maybe the sword-fighting contests ran long?
Meanwhile, XR users are caught in the crossfire, left with incomplete updates and vague promises. If the goal was to inspire confidence in your partnership, this situation has been a masterclass in how not to.
Question 3: The Abandonment Game
You say: âWeâre not abandoning the XR series; it just wonât get DumaOS4.â
Translation: âWeâll keep the lights on but donât expect renovations.â
Thatâs reassuring. Will DumaOS5 be coming, or should we brace ourselves for another round of waiting games and finger-pointing?
Final Thoughts
Your opening response was, letâs say, cheeky. I appreciate a bit of wit, but it landed more like condescension. So, I figured Iâd return the favor.
That said, if my tone ruffled any feathers, let me extend an olive branch. My frustration comes from a place of being a loyal customer who expected better from a product labeled as "cutting edge."
Looking forward to your replyâpreferably one that matches the professionalism your customers deserve.
What's really going on?
Thanks for Reading,Â
Hope were still friends

e38BimmerFN reacted to Netduma Jack B in DumaOS 4.0 - "Never Coming To The XR Series" - I PAID FOR DumaOS! SO I GET LAST YEARS UPDATES!
Hi There,
Clearly you're a bit annoyed about the whole situation, which is understandable. However, just to make things clear. We are not the same company as Netgear, the XR router series is collaboration between Netduma and Netgear.
We informed customers that the XR series would not be getting DumaOS4 about a year ago. However, despite that we have tried and tried to get a final DumaOS 3.3 firmware including a bunch of bugfixes to XR1000 customers, like we have done with the XR700, XR500 and XR450 beta firmwares which you can find on this forum.
Unfortunately, due to technical reasons its not as simple as just releasing a firmware for you to install otherwise we would have done so months ago. We require Netgear to provide us with a very specific firmware for this update, of which they have not had Netgear testing resources to put towards for months. Our software is ready and working, however the hardware waiting on Netgear.
As a side note, the XR series will continue to be supported with new cloud updates for Geo-Filter and DPI compatability, we are not abandoning the products, they just won't receive DumaOS4.

I got a 10Gb SFP to ethernet adapter for my XR700 and R9000, both work with this adapter. Thought I don't have a 10Gb ISP connection. Works on the CAX80 and CM3000 cable modems.

Regarding the WiFi (and Duma not lodaing) problem. I had same problem and found the solution... It is to reset the nvram. Here´s what I found.
"
Execute these commands through telnet into the router, courtesy of kamoj at snb.
WARNING: These commands will erase all your settings and should not be tried out if you are under warranty. Use at your own risk.
To make a real "Factory reset" issue these commands:
For R7800:
Code:
nvram default
nvram commit
mtd erase netgear
reboot
For the R9000 ( the mtd command does not exist so you should try these commands instead:
Code:
nvram default
nvram commit
ngmtd="$(awk -F: '/"netgear"$/ {print $1}' /proc/mtd | grep mtd)"
[ -n "$ngmtd" ] && flash_erase /dev/"$ngmtd" 0 0
reboot "
By the way, the R9000 command works on XR700 also

forgot this one I found..
Â
The trick is really if you can telnet into the xr700. The Telnet Enable line in the debug page http://routerlogin.net/debug.htm
was not there in ver 38, 36, 34 FW. But luckily I found it in 1.0.1.20.
Downgrade your FW under Firmware Upgrade in   http://routerlogin.net/adv_index.htm if Duma OS doesnât take you there. Â
Use your Windows command line to telnet into the Linux OS of the router.

@jodafi
I wanna confirm with you that your telnet process WORKS. I had a 2nd XR700 that I got off fleabay last year and probably spent too much money on it. It was loaded with DD-WRT and I thought if I got it, I could revert it back to NG stock FW. Ya, that didn't work entirely. After loading NG stock FW, the wifi radios become non functional. After going thru TFTP and such, I talked to someone about it and they said DD-WRT has a bad method of changing NVRAM items around on this particular model router. Would need to find something to blow that away and we couldn't find anything or information to resolve that. So Router sat for months collecting dust. YOU DID. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. After connecting to the router, it already had v.20 loaded and just enabled Telnet and after running the commands, BOOM, back up fully. Only took a few minutes.
I can't give enough KUDOS to you and Kamoj as well. I've used his stuff before. Just didn't know he would have this info. Possible that this may work for other models though I can't confirm that.Â
So this one XR700 is now working and back on NG stock FW. I might leave it on v.20 FW for now as I have a 2nd XR700 that's loaded with the Duma Beta. Ya I have two XR700s. Hehe.
Please let Kamoj know this works for getting NVRAM and WiFi Radios back up and running should there be some bad state, OR if the XR was loaded with DD-WRT and NG stock FW was sent, users will need to load up v.20 FW, enable telnet, then run the R9000 commands from the telnet console and after the reboot, the unit should be fully back online and working normally.Â
Â
THANK YOU AGAIN.Â

Here is another topic where someone had the exact same issue 2 years ago and this comment specifically explains why it may be a problem:
So probably best to contact Netgear and see what they can do.

Just checked again with the wired PC and speeds and there much better than before. Given some settling in time, looking great now:

Ok so I felt confident enough to put the XR on the main home network. Got it pre-staged and configured for what we use here.Â
10Gb SPF enabled and then connected to a CAX80 2.5Gb port running in modem mode.Â
Saw some extra LAN activity on the main LAN as is a ARP storm. Possible system was settling in or something. All quite now.Â
Â
Ran some speed tests:
WIred speed with QOS enabled:
Wired speed with QoS Disabled:
NG RAXE500 in wireless bridge mode connecting at 1733Mbps:
Â
Speed results thru RAXE500 in bridge mode:
Â
Will let this run for a while and see how things go.Â

Unfortunately my ISP doesn't have anything over 1Gb yet. I asked last week and the agent had no idea if the ISP was going to put something faster out. My ISP still hasn't put up support for IPv6 yet.Â
Sounds like someone gave some feedback though. In addition, I presume two or more devices should see same speeds if the SPF port was being used for the internet access. Though remember, all the RJ45 ports on the LAN side are 1Gb max. So you'll not see much over 900Mpbs there.Â

OK, I believe I got this beta loaded on the XR700.
Used a wired PC, Windows 10x64 and MS Edge.Â
Factory reset performed after file was sent and router came back to ready.
Walked thru the setup wizard.Â
Ran in to a couple of items seen in the browser:
Not sure what these two blank screens are prior to reaching the DUMAOS screen:
I got to this screen and waited about 5-6 minutes and never moved passed so I power cycled the router and got to the router log in and dashboard successfully:Â
I think saw samething when upgrading my XR500 to OS 3.3 beta too.
Connection Test is looking good and near to spec for a 1Gb/50Mbps ISP service:
 Â
Left QoS enabled and all other features as default for now.Â
Set default DHCP IP address range .100 to .200.Â
10Gb SFP sure gets hot. Will be testing this out with a CAX80.Â
Need to run this for a couple of days before putting it live on the home network. Feeling good about the beta.Â

e38BimmerFN reacted to Netduma Lew in NEW XR700 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.363
Hi everyone!
First things first - we know this has been a long time coming. Youâve all been incredibly patient in the wait for an XR700 firmware, but weâre hoping that the wait will be worth it.
That said, weâre excited to announce an Early Access firmware for the XR700 that will bring you up to scratch with DumaOS 3.3.
The latest firmware update can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zxt1dpu7i2f4hog/XR700-V1.0.1.50-0626.img?dl=0
Obviously, this is a HUGE jump from the firmware that the XR700 is currently on, with a massive deluge of new features and ways to use them. While weâre happy to answer any questions on these, here is an overview of the bigger changes:
Webview and Mobile App
Our biggest change to how you use DumaOS comes in the form of DumaOS For Mobile - a flexible view that works across any platform. For XR700 users, this can only be accessed using the DumaOS app available on both iOS and Android platforms.
AutoDPI
This improvement is less visibly obvious, but still has a huge impact on your DumaOS experience: AutoDPI massively opens up the amount of games and services that your router can detect, as well as removing the wait for new firmwares when it comes to supporting new applications.
For details on what AutoDPI is and how it improves things, check out our video on it below:
Other Additions
Of course, the leap to DumaOS 3 includes features such as Ping Heatmap, Adblocker, Connection Benchmark and more too. We have videos on using these features, with full feature tours in DumaOS itself as well.
Of course, there have been multiple fixes and improvements to DumaOS in this update as well - however, due to the sheer number of them, we have omitted their details here for the sake of brevity.Â
All of us here at Netduma appreciate your support and patience in the lead up to this Early Access release. Itâs worth noting that this may never come out as an official XR700 release from NETGEAR, so this may be the only way to get 3.3 on the router. We hope you enjoy everything it has to offer and get the most out of 3.3!

e38BimmerFN reacted to Fugs in Horrible Router
Such a great statement from a forum "moderator"...
I've been coding for 35 years, building/repairing PCs for 25ish, overclocking for 15....but pointing the PEBCAC finger is easy isn't it.
Â
Â
As mentioned, quite inconsistent. Once my tablet can't connect I have to reboot the router, then half the time you can kiss any working config goodbye.
Not spending further time on it...when I have the spare cash I'll swap it out.

How are you rebooting exactly? What changes after a reboot? We're happy to help if you wish to troubleshoot but understand if you don't, the next firmware isn't far off now so may be worth a try when that is available.

As they say in France: "Le ridicule ne tue pas"!
As for making you stronger... In your case, that has yet to be proven.
