Virgin Media Security Alert – Multicast DNS Vulnerability
Newfoundland replied to Exe_uz's topic in Netduma R2 Support
You can’t write firewall rules on the R2, for that you would need to step up to a more complex router that includes that which tend to be more aimed at businesses or the more complex home routers. However the R2 has a firewall even though it’s in the DMZ on your Virgin router, unfortunately I don’t know much about the firewall on the R2 so Fraser or Liam will be able to help more. The important thing is don’t have any devices under the R2 DMZ as that leaves them open to abuse. At a guess it’s due to DMZ and do you by any chance have a console or PC set in the R2 DMZ? -
No due to everyone’s lines being different, the peering factor, the route changes that take place and so on. Once your info leaves your property it enters the twilight zone and at that point you have zero control. Then add the equipment you have at home, from low latency monitors, mice, keyboards and so on right down to what’s running on your network, how many devices are being used, it all makes a difference. Then it’s down to how good the player is and in the good old days of dial up there was not such a large player base, in fact on wireplay which was a BT gaming platform you would see the same players each day as the community was a lot smaller back then. Now you have millions of players all trying their best to be number one or wanting that perfect game. I remember the old dial ups, we use to have latency in the 100 plus and on the Wireplay Quake tournaments you were allowed one sub 100ms player in your matches so people would be tuning away to get as close to 100 haha. Before that was BSS connections on nice simple games that were like space quest games on a set amount of moves per day and your results would appear over the next few days as long as people kept their connection live. My bro helped Run Wireplay for a bit but I still think even to this day the AI bots that were used to practise off line were a great idea and my bro worked with a chap creating all the routes they would use and helping to fine tune the way could alter individual bots so they acting in different ways, very human like. There was even a lag tool. http://ponpoko.tri6.net/3zb2/ And here a match with our clan. Once you’ve seen this and how games were modern games look quite good!

That’s a pain, don’t you love love copper lines. Roll on FTTP.

In your modem what’s your level ie 1 4 8 or in the 1000s
-
What was your interleaving results via your modem out of interest?

Welcome R2 owners! We want your feedback!
Newfoundland replied to Netduma Alex's topic in Netduma R2 Support
What are you testing the link speed with? A lot depends on the device but most phones tend to be 2x2 so 867mbps is max rate and for a 4x4 phone to achieve more you would need to use 160Mhz. -

300Mbps is about right, I’ve seen around the 400 mark. The 5Ghz theoretical output is 866Mbps max. What device are you using to get 700Mbps? -
If a site requires flash to work I would not be using it. You have to ask yourself does your network and private information override a site that seems to need flash for some basic test that as it stands the tests can’t be verified. Adobe supply the tools to remove all traces of flash on your pc, it will not be long before some real nasty stuff appears that will make use of any machine with flash. DSLreports either need to work on their site if it requires flash to show results or you need to question how accurate it really is and you also need to question why a site requires flash and for what reason. I use thinkbroadband if I need to run a test, it’s fine and fit for purpose.

Flash is no longer supported, Adobe now provide advise on how to remove it. Any site requiring flash is now a security risk. https://www.adobe.com/uk/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html Dslreports now uses HTML 5.

XR500 VS Netduma R2
Newfoundland replied to Alongcory's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
I don’t believe the XR500 has adblocker but both have geo filter. it boils down to hardware, the XR500 is higher priced due to its hardware and WiFi capacities, faster processors, better WiFi coverage, beamforming, throughput and so on. The R2 is a replacement for the R1, priced to be competitive and is Netdumas own router. While it’s WiFi might not match those of the XR500 if your router that you use now has good WiFi and is able to be put in Access mode you could use that instead of the R2 WiFi. It just boils down to what you want and what devices you have to your network requirements. -
I’m U.K. so RS components are my supplier. Not sure about US suppliers.

You will never tell a difference, trust me I’m fussy and as long as it’s from a known company it will be fine. Not saying all those cables you see on Amazon from Tom, Dick, and Harry are bad it’s I just prefer a known company.
-
Belden or I have some non fancy Belkin. I don’t like flat cables myself. If your cables working and you have no issues it’s fine.
-
Why cat 8? As long as you have the right cable standards and if shielding is required you may need an earthing point a Cat6 is more than enough for the R2. You will gain no advantage with a cable that is over spec even a cat 5e would do the job under normal running conditions and you would not notice any difference. I use Cat 6 STP and it’s fine and a total over kill for my setup.

I like Belden cables. https://www.belden.com/products/cable/ethernet-cable

Should not reset its self. I would install the latest firmware over the top, then factory reset using pin hole method at the back. Remember to allow the firmware update at least 5 mins before resetting. Make sure you log out before reset. then try port forwarding as Killhippie suggested but for a router to lose its settings when rebooting its either corrupt firmware or a hardware issue.

Xr1000 devices keep disconnecting
Newfoundland replied to VVarrior's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
If it’s WiFi drivers it will be NG that require to update their side. As it’s based on the RAX50 which has WPA3 and I believe the XR1000 does not yet if someone could confirm that, it means the firmware behind Duma is not the same as the RAX50 which seems fairly stable reading people views on SNB. -

Is it all devices connected to 2.4 that are dropping? what devices are connected ? is the 5Ghz channels dropping as well? when devices drop from WiFi do wired devices still work ok or do they lose the internet? -

Have you performed a reset yet? that’s a good starting point. -

What channels having this issue, ie 2.4 or 5Ghz? under WiFi setting check 5Ghz that the mode is set to HT80 which is 2165. if this is set correctly perform a factory reset and set up as new and test again. Do not use a saved profile when setting up again. -
ANNOUNCEMENT: DUMAOS 3.0 IS HERE
Newfoundland replied to Netduma Luke's topic in News & Announcements
I’m fairly confident that the Asus as well as NG AX routers with Broadcom chipsets have had updates via Broadcom that have added and improved the new standard. Throughput, latency, WiFi security and processing is mighty quick now on the top tier stuff however most may not be aware of how much of an improvement this is and days of wired only are coming to an end. BSS colouring, TwT, OFDMA and the rest of the specs are pretty amazing. I bet the XR1000 after stability updates will be a good router to pick up for gamers. -
