opa
I'm an idiot and new to any black ops game, so I need major help. I tried playing for the first time ever. first math kills to death ratio was 0:14. Second match 0:13. So then I asked myself how can all these players go around killing me like nothing, When I can't even sprint across the maps and my gun target moves everywhere it doesn't stay in the middle of the screen. so my setting must be Screwed up or something because I been watching youtube videos and their target doesn't move and everyone is always sprinting when the move the stick. So what can I do to fix my setting?
major masingil
opa don't worry about it. when you're first starting out you don't have any weapons upgrades or perks, like fancy scopes, silencers, movement perks like dead silence etc etc. That makes it really tough. The kill cams don't really represent the actual event either. while you death may appear to look smooth and with no recoil, the other player's crosshair was jumping around too. Knowing the maps and not running around like a madman is the most important to new players. There are places in each map that are killing zones and you need to take care not to go running blindly in there. Take your time and move deliberately, listen to the action around you, and pay attention to the minimap. You can see the baddies when they shoot and boost. try to move towards them from the side (flank) and get them while they're not looking at you. There are some really good players on public matches of COD that have played tons of hours. Until you get your sea legs, you're going to be target practice for them. That's just the way it is. JConnor
The other thing, Opa, is you are playing with people who have also been playing the series for eight years (some ten, if they started with the original CoD on PC). So, that's 10 years of collective game experience (map knowledge, weapon knowledge, movement knowledge, etc.) you don't have, yet. So, you are going to be at a disadvantage not just because your weapons and character lack certain attachments and perks, but also because you have to get used to the kind of game CoD is: A fast-paced, arcade twitch shooter. If mainstream modes like TDM, DOM and others are too fast... You might try something a lot slower like S&D (Search & Destroy) which is like Counter-Strike. You only get one life per round, but again, it's a lot slower by default because people are more mindful of having just one life, so they use tactics to maximize their survival. You might also try "Hardcore" mode where players have 30% health and one shot kills anybody. You can still respawn in non-S&D modes just like in Core, but this way you don't have to worry as much about trying to compete on a 1:1 basis as far as both skill, map knowledge, weapon and attachments and perks are concerned. It allows you to learn and rank up these things at a slightly slower pace because people are more cautious in HC because of the "one hit kill" feature. I wouldn't suggest playing "Hardcore" if your just starting out. I'm a converted hardcore player and it would just make the OP more frustrated because of instant kills and more than likely the OP will be shooting his own team. If he plays hardcore free for all, he'll probably RAGE QUIT! LMAO! OP, just learn the game and just remember, we all took cracks when we first started. It's just the way it is! Net-1
Dude set up a local game with bots and practice a lot before u go online. Then u can try out everything without without becoming killbait for your team. Also black ops 3 will balance teams but has no skill based matchmaking so noobs can find themselves surrounded by very experienced players. If u want to go online maybe try advanced warfare first as it had skill based matchmaking which is friendlier to noobs also there was a special combat readiness program although not sure if many noobs still playing. Also get a good 3d sound gaming headset and learn to use the headset perk can't remember what it's called. That is how campy players know where you are and wait for u to walk into their sights. Two main things are.. ... dont care about dying. Look at kill cams and analyse where u went wrong. ....Also, if u get into cod, it can become very addictive as u get better, remember to limit your playing and maintain hobbies and interests and life besides cod. EffinFancy
I think what helps is if you party up with folks, too. You have some uploaded gameplay I can check out? I can give you some tips. JConnor
I would normally support the "Practice with bots" suggestion except... The bots in BO3 are terrible. They are utterly stupid. So, if Opa does really well against them, he/she may get a false sense of improvement which is worse than just getting your butt kicked by better players, IMO. Second, Bots play entirely different than humans because they don't care about K/D. They play game modes with the sole purpose of trying to fulfill objectives... even TDM... Whereas humans often do things to protect their K/D like camp in obscure places you will only notice playing against real players, use weapons and scorestreaks more effectively, etc. So, I am not suggesting Opa shouldn't practice with bots, but they should at least go into it knowing the strengths and weaknesses compared to playing online with real people. However, I strongly disagree with the recommendation for Opa to play AW if they have it. AW is completely different than BO3 -- Thankfully! -- And the two games play entirely different and rely on different skill sets. BO3 is similar to past CoD titles where it is more "boots on the ground" even with the wall running. It's also a lot more strategic compared to AW because players aren't flying at you from every direction, especially from above due to the boost jump. I had to adjust my play style from AW to BO3 by learning how to SLOW DOWN and not rush as much. You can still move fast, but you need to do it strategically and you have to watch corners and other things because you can't just boost dodge, or boost jump in the air to avoid somebody who pops up three feet from you. UK_Wildcats_Fans
Search for youtube videos for "Black Ops 3 tips and tricks", "BO3 beginner class setups". There are lots of good videos. There are two good youtube channels. drift0r (zero and not the letter O) - in depth videos on weapons, attachments, etc xclusiveace - great map and domination videos, has great tips themarkofj - he is really good, you can learn from watching his game play Personal tips - as others have mentioned play with bots (aka locally), slow down, make sure that your class setup matches the game mode and map, aim down sights around corners, know the maps and different path ways, watch the mini map (where are the enemies, where are your team mates, where are your team mates dying)
Dillinger
Man, this thread takes me back. My first multiplayer COD was Black Ops 2, which I bought in Feb following the release. My first game was TDM, as a drop in, on Yemen. I wasn't doing one god damn thing right (huge TV with massive input lag, wireless everything, no headset, OEM controller, sitting 20 feet from the screen with the home surround sound on AND PLAYING SOLO). I went 0-7 in about 2 minutes and rage quit with the quickness..... LOL I honestly don't think I tried another lobby for like two days. I was so incredibly humbled and pissed off. I started, quite literally, by watching YouTube videos to learn the maps. I would watch good and bad players, and try to figure out what they were doing right and what they were doing wrong. El Presador was a great guy to watch (at the time) because he would upload 3 videos a day, every week day, and he wasn't that good, so it gave me hope. Then I started learning about a gaming monitor over a TV. A Scuf (or Battle Beaver - my preferred brand now) controller and a headset. Dear God, the difference that came with the headset. COD isn't a sprint. This is a long, winding journey. You are going to hate it, love it, hate it again and probably will quit more than a few games. I would honestly not play online and would JUST play against the bots to practice all the stuff you will learn as second nature. When you can effectively get 2 or 3 streaks with every life, I would then start looking at online, but keep your streaks low and plan on getting killed off them frequently. To date I don't know what I have spent to get, basically, average. Below average compared to the slayers and gunners we have around here...LOL But it's been a lot. I have tried just about every controller, just about every add on or "thumbstick enhancement" and a lot of them are pure shit. So don't go breaking out the plastic and ordering up a litany of things until you get a basic handle for the game and see if you even like playing it. Honestly I don't know if I like playing COD anymore, or if it's just so habit forming I can't stop....LOL Now, here are some basic tricks. 1) Start with Combat Training, Readiness Program, or whatever the equivalent is with the current title. Start against the bots man, they are just as deadly, but they rarely teabag and hunt you down. :-) Don't play online against other humans until you get some games under your belt where you are playing "good" in your own eyes. Find your guns, your perks, your style of play. 2) The COD basic class setups include GHOST and launchers. Ghost will keep you off the UAV and keep you hidden a little easier. There are five classes down below your 5 custom classes, learn those and get to know them. Until you can unlock Ghost and have it permanent, you need to know where the Ghost class is and where your launcher class is (in case you don't carry one with every class). As a beginner, I suggest you run a launcher in every class to help your team and clean up your mess. If a guy kills you a couple of times, and you hear him put up UAV or Counter UAV in the air, you probably helped him get that, so you should take some responsibility to get it off the map. I shoot down a minimum of (4) birds a game, and I am usually a 1.5 K/D or above player, so I am not above doing the "dirty work" of cleaning up the skies and you shouldn't be afraid to either. 3) Don't run around wildly. You will see a lot of players running. They run everywhere and sometimes it appears they are running towards an open part of the map for no reason. Don't follow them. Take a slow and methodical approach until you learn the maps, the sight lines and the spawns. No sense running across a big wide open space if there is a smarter way to get there. Look for those and look to use the map to help keep you shaded. Start with that and you will begin to learn the game. The rest of us are still learning it too, but we have a lot of experience with similar games to draw from, so the learning curve is pretty steep to someone just starting out. This thread will give you some funny stories about things we "experienced" player still do and know that we need to stop. http://forum.netduma.com/topic/2403-the-fps-confessional/ Good luck and know that it gets better, it just takes time and money, like almost everything else in the world. In the past I was pretty decent and have played for many years, unfortunately the years are catching up with me ( I'm a little older - OK a lot older) and my game skills have declined. "Xclusive Ace" has created some " Reaction & Aiming" drills that are very practical and will help you develop the skills you will meet to improve. I agree with JC the bots are not like humans - for one thing they don't make rude comments about your game play. Having acknowledged that, I still go into custom matches against the bots; purpose is to warm up and work on my skills. When I first start I go at it with"Recruit" bots and work my way up to Vetern. I follow both the (YouTubers) mentioned above and they have very helpful info that will help. Opa I am available anytime to party up with you on either XBox One or Ps4 if you would like. Cajun72
Agree with a lot of what has already been said, particularly about the bots. Yes they are a bit dumb but look at playing against them as pure target practice. Start off with just a few bots and play a few games with a weapon you feel comfortable with. It's all about landing your shots on target so learn to do this against bots first so it becomes natural, This will help you online. Also find the correct sensitivity FOR YOU. Seriously getting this right is the Number 1 thing you need to do first. Then the map knowledge comes after that. Good Luck!
DARK BAWGS
Me again OPA, Just thought I might give you some links and suggestions that may help you get up to speed quicker… First I think the best COD Youtuber is Xclusive Ace, hands down. Why, you might ask, because he gives practical advice and drills that actually help! DrifOr is my second choice, being an engineer he really gets into the numbers, which will help you guide you to the setup that best suits your play style. No one can tell you what the best setup, (gun, perks, attachments etc.) are best for you – that is a very personal thing and can only be assessed by trial and error. This is where “Custom” matches can really help you fine tune things. Xcllusive Ace- I suggest you check out his play lists for the following: The Breakdown – in this series Ace takes game play of followers that have sent him video’s of their game play. He then analyzes them in detail. Amazing how many times I said to myself –“hell, that’s me”. Here is a link to first vid in the Breakdown serues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwsW3YqwlFc&list=PLnAiSQ-bKCPsteMN5agIPq-uJfXRXkfR0 Live Lessons – this is really great in that he walks you through one of his games and tells you what he was thinking as the game progressed. He is pretty awesome, in my opinion. The first vid in this series is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CWpFLS1ndA&list=PLnAiSQ-bKCPtnnYuqkqSnNOJI98gRlB0I Maps Exposed – Ace walks you through the maps and explains best spots and where you can get some safe kills. Spawn Guides – I don’t think it has started yet for BO3 but he has done this in all the other CODs and he promises this is coming soon. If you understand how the spawns work and where they are this will really help you get killed less and get more kills. How to stay alive longer - This series has serveral topics from Aiming Drills, Sensitivity, how to get a better K/D, etc. Before I go into a multiplayer session I ALWAYS warm-up with running the "How to Improve your Twitch Aim to Win More Gunfights" which is actually the second Drill vid. I don't run this very long (Ace explains why in the vid; next I run "How to improve Your Aim" once I have gone through these I play a couple of maps in Custom games on Hardened or Vetern - when I first started it was against "Recruits". Has this helped me improve - not likely as i am beyond help but it has kept me in the fight - also is loosens my arthritic hands before I have to face those elite humans who show no mercy and don't respect their elders! Here is the first vid in this series: Others – he does all the normal, best class setups, attachment and perk analysis this is similar to what most YouTube(rs) do but I like to stay “unconfused” so stick to his views. DrifOr – Probably his best and most watched series is “In Depth” where he analyzes every gun in detail. Drift0r has over 1 Million subscribers so he is well respected; his series of Wall Run Spots is most helpful. His tips will help you get around the maps faster and aid you in flanking enemies. I hope this is of some help to you, hang in there and you will improve quickly.

fuzzy clam
I'm gonna go against the grain and say, play how you want.If you wanna run around do so,if you wanna camp do so (although it's highly frowned upon by some) it's a game your not dying in real life. Learn the spawns and the choke points and with 3arch games that's not real difficult as they believe in the 3 lanes of traffic. It's your game your the one who payed for it,so play how you want but the main thing is...enjoy it.

Is that right or it should sprint automatically by moving it? I think it pretty much stays as L Stick in on most set ups. It's not automatic, but there is Marathon in BO3, which is a semi-unlimited run. You do have to hold the stick in to get the guy to run. It becomes second nature after about the second day of grinding the game. Slow and steady will win this race my friend. Don't let anyone, anyone's videos, have you trying shit you aren't ready to undertake. Get the basics and then work on the flashy stuff.
