Haha DS your boots are silent but you gun movement isnt go figure lol

Dead Silence..... Unless you are ADS'ing (cling, cling, rattle), or about to launch a damn score streak.

Was running around Aquarium yesterday and had to fight for my life to re-roll a care package and claim it for myself.  From Dart to HC-XD, I don't know how I feel about that trade in terms of points, but that Dart is hot GARBAGE.  So I have to Circus performer a double kill out of my ass and claim my prized car.  I run over to a side bldg, listen, it's quiet and the map is clear, all good.  Throw down the car and my Seraph announces "Launching HC-XD" and I get killed in my spot before the car can even find me a target because I chose to go LEFT instead of RIGHT.  Grrr....

I have the 500 stealth on the ps4 and I have no problem hearing direction and approximate distance. (Using natural sound preset) Have you tried turning down other in game sounds.

You can most definitely soundwhore in this game. I've gotten tons of kills by just waiting around a doorway when I hear somebody stopming their way towards it. They run right past me, BOOM! Dead.

It's not as bad as IW because they seem to use Sound Occlusion a lot better e.g. it's localized to one portal of the map. So, you don't hear people reloading across the map the size of Siege, in Ghosts. I believe the reason they were so loud is most people play in the living room with HDTV speakers which means they had to amplify them for the crappy audio quality built-in HDTV speakers produce, perhaps?

I currently have the Turtle Beach 500p for PS4.  They are good but not as comfortable as I would like.  In addition, I have experienced several quality issues with TB headsets in the past (i.e. breaking).  I saw a few topics on here about headsets, so it got me looking again.  After doing a bunch of research and debating with myself.  I just purchased the Sennheiser G4ME ONE and Astro Mixamp Pro TR.  Head-fi.org has good recommendation guide with this one listed.  It has great reviews, comfort, etc.  I do like the integrated unit, and I will only use it for gaming.

I would be interested in seeing a couple of shots of your set up and an in-depth review of the headphones for gaming if you wouldn't mind?

And when they say Nice Kill!

I hadn't heard this before, but last night I got a Hit Detection+Lag Comp wonder and went 5 for 6 with my Golden Pistol of ThulsaDoom.  The guy coming off spawn was either Nomad or that guy with the spikes and he goes "Easy there buddy, save some for the rest of us".

That made my whole session.  :D

if you want to sound whore

- buy a good dolby decoder, better sbx decoder

- set bass to a low level (mixamp does this automatically though isnt such a good dolby decoder)

- use an analytical headphone with wide soundstage and low bass (so open audio studio headphones)

- do not use any 7.1 stuff but 5.1 only with no "footstep mode" that distorts the frequencies

the fidelios are hifi headphones as far as i know, while they are good they certainly arent good for soundwhoring

(and those that claim they are havent experienced analytical headphones)

Like you I have the SB X7, the Fidelio X2 is good for soundstage, just not as good as some other headphones out there but I can pull off directional cues easily with the X7.

I'm actually looking at going audiophile and getting the Sennheiser HD800 headphones, they aren't cheap in Australia either, no idea how I'm going to ever justify the price tag to anyone though.

They cost more than a GeForce 980TI lol

If you get the final kill with Ruin using gravity spikes and it's a multi kill,he says " you have a nice fucking day now" which is great. He's my favorite specialist as he's a biker and swears a lot... :D

Headset Setup:  Mixamp is connect to the optical output of the PS4 and USB port.   Sennheiser  headset is plugged into the Mixamp with a Y cable.

PS4 Settings:

Optical primary output

Dolby Digital 5.2 Bitstream (Dolby)

Mic level up fairly high

BO3 Settings:

Voice Volume: 10

Music Volume: 0

SFX Volume: 10

Cinematics Volume: 6

High Boost mix

Mixamp Pro TR Settings:

Beastmode equalizer settings

Volume at 90%

Mic at 100% with "Stream" mic setting

Game/Voice in the middle which I vary in game depending on the party voice levels

"Beastmode" eq settings for Astro Mixamp Pro TR that work well

http://forums.astrogaming.com/index.php?threads/beastmode-equalization-bo3.194874/

I initially had problems with this setup.  I could not get the mic to work and the sound was off.  My initial problems were my own fault and quickly resolved. I forgot to "Sync" my settings so nothing was applied.  I made changes to the Mixamp while the PS4 was already on.  I had to restart the PS4 and BO3 to get them working.  At this point, it was working well except friends stated that my mic sounded distorted.  I did some research online and found some suggestions to change the mic settings from "Home" to "Stream".   The mic worked well with the stream settings.

Game Sound Quality:  I was amazed at the sounds that I was hearing with the Sennheiser that I never heard with the Turtle Beach 500p.  For example, I normally use the Battery specialist.  When I am in a lobby, I can now clearly hear the wind, direction of the wind, fire, etc.  On hunted, I hear the waterfall a lot more clearly now.  I am using the Awareness perk on all my classes.  I can very accurately pin point footsteps (direction, distance, movement speed, etc.).  I am a true believer now.  I tried a few of the Astro preset equalizer settings.  They give great results, but I just slightly prefer the custom settings.

Sound Quality:  Because of the huge improvements in the game sound, I decided to test the headset for non-gaming.  I am NOT an audiophile, but even I could hear the differences.  I watched various youtube videos (music, surround sound tests, audio tests, movies) on the PS4 for testing the quality.  I am absolutely amazed with the quality.  I even plugged my 500p back in for testing with the same videos.  It was astonishing on how well the Sennheiser headsets sound.

Comfort:  I bought the Game One (open headset) because I wanted to hear people and things in my house while gaming and I prefer the felt ear cushions.  With double XP this weekend, I have put in A LOT of hours playing.  They are very comfortable.  The are definitely better than the 500p.  The ear cushions are slightly bigger and wider than the 500p.  Therefore, they fit a little weird on my head.  They often put pressure on my jawline.  It is slightly uncomfortable but easily remedied by moving the headset around.

Pros:  Amazing sound quality, great comfort.  I like that I can move the mic into the upright position and it automatically mutes the mic.

Cons:  Wired and sits a little weird on my jawline.  Wired is a very minor issue.  I often run to the bathroom, get something to drink/eat, etc. in between games and in the lobbies.  I miss being able to get up and run around the house with my headset on so I can hear the game count down or friends giving me a headsup.  The jawline is minor as well and easily remedied by moving the headset around.

I will NEVER buy another Turtle Beach, Astro or Tritton headset EVER again.

Thank you to everyone for your help, advice and sharing your experiences.  If it was not for the topics in this forum, I would not have started looking for this setup.

youd honestly say the very same when experiencing how bad the audio quality of the mixamp is due to the physical mixers that highly degrades the audio quality

dont get me wrong, the mixamp is a great device for what it does pricewise, it just isnt really good in sound quality

its pretty much the same difference between an astro headset and a sennheiser headset

you could buy a used DSS1 for 10-15$ to "hear" what i mean ;)

What would be better options to use with the Sennheiser Game One headset than the Mixamp Pro TR?

pricewise the DSS1 (if no chat is needed) and the DSS2 (if chat is needed) give the best audio for the money

their audio quality comes very close to really high end audio cards that cost a few hundred dollars

in the gaming dolby decoder market the DSS gives the best quality

you can commonly find used DSS1 and DSS2 for around 10-20$ on ebay incase you want to give it a try

the DSS2 has frequency distortion options if you want to boost footsteps similar to the mixamp pro tr (i dont recommend doing that, the original audio is still the best way to pinpoint positions)

again this is just a suggestion incase you want to go for the full audio range, since you already like your current setup a lot theres nothing wrong with not keeping it :)
