Myst1caL
As the title says I'm with virgin media 100/6 package but as many of you know they throttle uploads and many people have had issues with p2p gaming etc. What other provider in the uk with fibre would you guys recommend as my area just got fibre enabled by openreach
Zennon
I am with TalkTalk it has been flawless for gaming but with the hacking problems lately I am not sure people will flock to this (any one or anything is hackable) I have went from 63mb to 52mb due to crosstalk, I know what this is so I have had no complaints unlike the masses who complain about speed loss to company's on fibre. As long as my pings stay low and on fast path I am happy. I have a freind who uses BT with no issues, we both however wouldn't touch cheap ISP routers and binned them day one. Hopefully you have a Hauwei cabinet on you street as that will probably will have G.inp enabled meaning fastpath with on the fly error correction. Which is preferable over interleaving with a higher ping if you do have a line that errors. Cabinet types
Myst1caL
I think the cabinet was only installed recently as it isn't even on google maps in the location it's at now. i was with talktalk a few months ago but left as I didn't think fibre was every coming and virgin was already in my area so left during the price increase so no leaving fee's where applied but i'm still receiving letters about my account even though i cancelled, guess the woman never processed the cancellation.. tempted to call and just ask them to upgrade the package to fibre and use them again forgot to mention i already have an openreach modem here as i was using it with talktalk adsl with my old asus router so could plug that into my netduma once up and running with whatever provider
lukasz
Hm... I always thought that you are on BT zen?
Zennon
TalkTalk use there own LLU equipment in the exchange so the bandwidth is their own only the cabs are owned by BT which I like as they have over provision on bandwidth so no ISP congestion unlike Virgins bandwidth model. Zennon
Hm... I always thought that you are on BT zen? No lucasz I used to be with Vivaciti who resell talk talk tails I was paying a lot of cash for this British support. I realised I don't need support so I took a punt and switched to normal consumer TT ADSL went straight on their forum (never call them) and asked for fast path 6db profile, which they kindly set and I was away. Now on their fibre product which is also using their LLU
BENORMOUS
I'd get rid of the cheap ass sky hub tomorrow if I knew how and what would be a better option,if anyone knows a replacement modem that can fill in for my skyhub router modem combo shed some light
Newnsy
I always use Samknows website if i want to find out about the exchange and to check available speeds from other providers https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm?s_cid=btw_furl_adslchecker_applications_diagnostics_adslchecker. I use BT business broadband its more expensive but its absolutely spot on, if i have any issues they have to get an engineer out within 24hrs usually same day

lukasz
That is actually a great thread. I am about to make a move from virgin media as well. As far as I knew Bt was the way to go in UK in terms of gaming.
Myst1caL
I really enjoyed my adsl connection with talktalk for gaming but the bandwidth wasn't enough for my household and this was before i owned a duma gonna give them a call later since the website is still down

As far as I knew Bt was the way to go in UK in terms of gaming. My mate who lives in the same town as me uses them and he has no issue's Crossy uses them too, they should be fine. Having said that I am not a fan of the homehubs as I have complaints all the time from customers using them. I look at it like sky don't give you a TV to watch their TV service and if they did it would be a 14" portable.
bagsta69
I have Bt fttc, dumped the home hub and just use the R1. No problems with speeds ping or gaming or throttling.
Buds
BT here and no complaints. Given I'm living in the middle of Scotland my pings are phenomenal (UK servers 14ms and dutch at 23ms) and other than a modem glitch with BT I've not had a single issue in 3-4 years. Reality is any given ISP will be fine unless they are over contended in that area.

Cajun72
I've had Plusnet's unlimited fibre package - 76d for over 2 years and to be fair it's been good for gaming, no throttling/good pings etc. I do live in a low population area though so that might help as lower demand than a major town/city.. Just wondering Zen, do you think I would be able to get the fast path profile from talk talk? Does it make a big difference? Also if i was to dump my isp provided router is there anything you could recommend as a replacement to use with the duma? would it have to be a modem only? Anything reasonably low cost would be good lol Gotta keep the Mrs happy as well lol
