Hello NETDUMA Support!

I purchased the NETDUMA R1 a little over a week ago and got it working through my TalkTalk Business Super Router. Very easy installation, straight forward, no issues there.

I have utilised the Host Filtering, Congestion Control and even the Host Analysis when i play CS:GO and they have all worked fluently..

After setting up my PS4 and CoD:AW, warming up in preparation for the Black Ops 3 Beta, I came across a strange 'bug' where I am very slow in getting in the game and often become last to join into the game. Players are already half way across the map before I spawn in. Now this has never been an issue before so i tested it. I connected back to my Super Router and I connect instantly/often first into games. It seems to be directly tied into the NETDUMA.

Once I am in the game the Host Filtering works absolutely fine and the ping is very low (Around 10-30 ping). I currently have around 7 ping, 67MB Download and 20MB Upload.

Is there a quick fix or have i found a fundamentally difficult issue to solve?

I also have somewhat of a complaint.. Although I have enjoyed your top notch software, the Wireless capabilities seem to be inferior to the 'Free' Super Router that I received from TalkTalk when entering the contract. It slightly disappointed me when I came to realise wireless internet  struggles with Twitch streams on 'Source' quality (It buffers often) in which i used to be able to watch fluidly with the 'Free' router. I genuinely understand that we are paying more for the software aspect and algorithms within the router and that part of it has been excellent but as i said before it left me rather underwhealmed by the hardware performance wirelessly.

I hope you can help!

Kind Regards,

Theo

Hello there welcome to the DUMA ARMY.

Now just to clarify the ps4 is connected via wire or wireless?

What firmware version you are on? Chcek the bottom of the routers page.

Hi Theo, welcome to the forum :)

Once you've actually found the game, could you try disabling the GeoFilter and see if this delays you getting into the game still?

For the Wifi, could you make sure that the Wifi on the other router is turned off so that it doesn't cause any interference. The maybe run a Wifi channel analyser to see which is the best channel to have the Wifi on. If that still makes the Wifi slow, you could buy an AC Wifi Access Point and plug that into the Netduma to have AC Wifi.

If you are seeing WiFi drop out's you could un-tick the wifi workaround in the Netduma's Misc settings.

Also make sure you are running the latest firmware we are on 1.03.4 it is found at the bottom of the Netduma's web page GUI.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

I am using a wired connection to the NETDUMA from my PS4. The router firmware is R1 debug version 1.03.3 running on rb-951g-2hnd .

I'll update it now.

I will attempt turning off the Geofilter once in the lobby also and let you guys know, it's a small problem but it does seem to get progressively irritating!

I'll have a look at all the wifi settings and try and do what you suggested.

Also Crossy i don't really intend to buy anything further considering a £150 router should perform better wirelessly than a TalkTalk default router imo but thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks.

Ok - hopefully disabling fixes the late joining problem :)

I appreciate that you wouldn't want to purchase anything additional. Lots of people find the Netduma Wifi very good so hopefully all the above suggestions help fix the problem you're having.

Let us know how you get on Theo, everyones advice here should get you sorted :) Welcome to the forum btw!

Thanks Fraser,

I did everything that was recommended to me and I believe the firmware update solved the joining games late issue. So great help on that part, thank you guys!

The WiFi I have optimised on the NETDUMA now and it still is disappointingly below the standard of my TalkTalk Super Router. I don't believe it to be a software issue. I actually think its just the fact the wireless hardware on the TalkTalk Super Router just outperforms the NEDUMA Router which is a pain.

I would also like to point out a small issue that concerned me in regards to safety. When plugging in the power cord into the NETDUMA, each time, sparks fly out in the transition between putting the power cable into the Netduma power socket. It seems to do it on each occasion I plug it in. I tend not to be very alarmed at electrical devices but  in this instance it is concerning.

The wifi is much stronger than the TT router I can pick it up over the road by my neighbours house , you wifi analyzer software re Crossys posts to find the lest congested channel.

On the sparks issue I will wait for a member of the dev team to comment on that.

Firstly as i said before I did all of the optimisations that were suggested including the channel analyser. I even went a bit further by speed testing each individual channel 1-11 and finding the best channel to use, although many sources have said 1, 6 and 11 are best to avoid overlapping in channels.

I have to disagree with the statement you made about the TalkTalk Super Router (TT SR). 'The HG635 is an ADSL2+ and VDSL2 modem with a 3x3 MiMo antenna configuration, which allows for a theoretical maximum speed of 1.75Gbps (802.11ac) when using both 2.4 and 5GHz bands' (ispreview). As opposed to the, 'High powered 2.4 GHz 1000mW 802.11 b/g/n Wifi' (NETDUMA).

I tend not to pay attention to the actual information and base my judgement off of performance and the difference is night and day between the wireless on the NETDUMA and the TT SR. The TT SR has improved ping tests, speed tests and remains consistent without spikes. The NETDUMA has lower speed tests, ping tests and it spikes considerably. It may just be the difference that it does not match the TT SR due to the fact it does not run 2.4GHz & 5GHz simultaneously unlike the TT SR.

The example you gave of your NETDUMA having stronger wifi than the TT router is left in question as the model which i have (TalkTalk Huawei HG635 VDSL 802.11ac) is actually rather consistent and from my testing has considerably improved ping tests, speed tests and reduced lag spikes than the NETDUMA like mentioned above.

Strange stuff this wifi malarky, I only use my R1 and chucked the BT homehub in the cupboard. I can sit in my garden and watch the Cricket on Sky on my iphone through 3 brick walls

. R1 in front of house by reception door and garden out the back of the house.

Awesome to hear! Is there any specific settings you put in place to achieve this consistency? I have already gone through updating firmware, channel selection, disabling my other routers wifi, and unticking enable wifi workaround. Is there anything I'm missing here? I continue to struggle watching Source quality Twitch streams which i previously had no issues or buffering for literally 6 months.

I am real sorry buddy but I have nothing special set up, other than unticking ipv6 and the other stuff in the guides. If I have a eureka moment I will be sure to pop along and let you know mate, nothing worse than when something isnt quite working as it should. You have made sure when you are trying to use wifi and not gaming that the congestion sliders are at 100% and that the items wanting to use wifi are not blocked or anything like that?

I am sure you have checked that but sometimes I forget to reset them myself so just a thought.

No worries, thanks for the help.  I always place the sliders back to 100% after a gaming session of CoD or CS. When you unticked ipv6 was that 'enable link-local ipv6'? I currently have that ticked atm in misc settings.

Yes I have that unticked, I have it disabled in wan and lan settings too

I have to say I'm hesitant to mess around with the IPv6 settings. I researched and from what little i have understood it is better to be using IPv6 than IPv4 :/

I think I will want this recommendation confirmed by an official NETDUMA staff member before I commit to making changes like that. Thanks anyway!

OK buddy, I understand that, if you are on PC I guess it could make a difference but a quick search of the forum will confirm stuff, that said these things are different for all of us so I will take my crackers and Yorkshire blue and think about How blessed are the cheese makers. :)

Your LAN network will almost certainly not be using IPv6. Talk talk doesn't support IPv6 yet at the moment and you are connected to their super hub anyway which won't give out IPv6 addresses (you can confirm this by going to Device manger and seeing what your WAN IP is). So you should be safe to disable IPv6 everywhere :)

EDIT: Also is there a difference if i change the bandwidth in the WiFi Settings to 5GHz or is that not recommended?

5Ghz doesn't work and needs to be removed :) If you select it then the Wifi won't work.

Ok np!

I just changed IPv6 and disabled it on LAN and WAN and in the misc settings. The results caused dropouts, sometimes the internet would work then the next moment its offline. This was both for wired and wireless! I changed it back and everything is back to normal. I find it very strange as you are right it is only using IPv4 as i checked the router settings on my TT router. Strange stuff :/

As I said before, I don't think it will really make a difference anyway. But if you want it disabled, once you disable it, reboot the router from Settings >> Miscellaneous and reboot any devices connected to the Netduma :)
