I read elsewhere that if you manually configure the network settings on the PS4 you assign it an IP address and this was more reliable than leaving everything to automatic? When I check internet setup on PS3 it says NAT type 2 but in game it is open NAT so is there no NAT type 1 ?

NAT type 2 is normal, it simply means that you're behind a router and have an open NAT type
