ifell
I'm hearing a high pitched noise coming from the XR1000 router it seems to happen while devices are downloading/uploading, sometimes speeds drop to 23mbps download, upload speeds were also effected. I did a speed test via connection bench mark and speeds weren't effected My internet speeds are 75mbps down | 20mbps upload. When I first got the router there was no high pitched noise at all

Are there any other electronic devices nearby? If you completely disable QoS from the three-line menu in Congestion Control, do your speeds improve at all? ifell
XR1000 is in a well ventilated area, is also in a open area, isn't next to electronic devices. The environment where the XR1000 is set up has not changed ( I haven't moved it or set up other electronics near it ) Changing settings on the XR1000 won't improve speeds. When this first happened I switched the power off and waited 10 minutes, then turned it back on, it helped a little, download speeds were abit better but the high pitched noise is still present, sounds like a high pitched hissing sound. using FTP from my computer to another device makes the router make a high pitched hiss noise and at some point the FTP file transfer disconnects, which is less than ideal, so I have to use a USB instead. I checked to see if the 5GHz and 2.4GHz channels were using channels that weren't occupied by neighbouring wifi routers, and there isn't any interference. How fast are download speeds using 2.4GHz 20MHz / 40MHz & 5GHz 20MHz / 160MHz Ment to be? Because at best 2.4GHz was 56mbps download. Surely it should be able to do 75mbps

Is it just wireless devices that are seeing these decreased speeds? Are wired devices still getting the speeds you'd expect? The two Wi-Fi channels should be able to comfortably handle these speeds. ifell
It seems to just be wireless speeds that are effected, I did a speed test on the XR1000 and didn't hear the noise, so it's just wireless speeds, also when I do a ping test like, ping 1.1.1.1 -t ( this is a public DNS server ) ping 192.168.2.1 -t ( this is the XR1000 ) There wouldn't be any one on the internet but me, I would get 200ms ping spikes. This is with wireless. Wired doesn't have issues
Netduma Liam
So when pinging the XR1000 from your Desktop/Laptop, you'd see ping spikes of 200ms? How do you have the Wi-Fi channels and their widths configured? If you haven't already, I'd suggest using a Wi-Fi analyser to see which are the least congested channels in your area and update you wireless settings accordingly. ifell
Already done that, using 20MHz, no one is on the internet, and the computer I'm using to test on isn't doing back ground updates, no one is on the same channel either. Netduma Liam
Do you have the two Wi-Fi networks separated into two or are you using SmartConnect? Could you confirm if you're seeing these issues on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz to help us narrow this down more?
ifell
Seems to be more prone to 2.4GHz, smart connect is disabled, 2.4GHz and 5GHz are separate SSID's, I'll try and double check if it's happening on 5GHz, for 5GHz it's been able to consistently stay around 75mbps and 18mbps upload, not sure if it makes the high pitched noise but I'll double check when I have time Netduma Fraser

ifell
Can confirm its with 2.4GHz & 5GHz, Getting 800ms ping from 192.168.2.1 without anyone using the internet ( and no background downloads ) this is less than ideal
Netduma Liam
Are wired devices also getting these random ping spikes? When you get a chance, it may also be worth putting the XR1000 into AP mode temporarily to see if you're still getting the same noises/issues. If you're not, we know it's something we should be able to fix in DumaOS.
ifell
One of the wired tests I did got 140ms ping, from pinging 192.168.2.1 It went from 140ms to, 69ms, 74ms, 80ms, 85ms, 97ms, then went to 1ms for abit then I got 63ms, then 85ms, then dropped back to 1ms. Newfie
Is there an update on this as I’ve seen another report of a noise on a XR1000? Could anyone else with a XR1000 run a WiFi test, saturate as best as possible and see if they hear anything please.

WiFi tends to pull more power so makes sense it’s power related. I’ve just doubled checked my routers for any sound and not a hint, the R2 is lovely and quiet. It’s just 3 reports so far.

Yes, one on Reddit under Netgear where someone posted and I asked on a discord channel I’m on where there are a few Duma users and asked if they could hear anything. personally I don’t see an issue but was interested to see if anyone else noticed this. Just came across this from a google search. I'm actually having the high pitch coil whine like noise from my XR1000. Been trying to figure it out for about a week now. Can definitely hear it under load. I uploaded a YouTube video yesterday and finally had enough of the sound that I now want to figure out how to get it to stop or see if a RMA would fix it... You need to log into mynetgear and from there you can raise an RMA and then it’s down to NG if they deem it a replacement issue.

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. As above you would have to go through Netgear for an RMA.
Symptomz
I plan to possibly. Figured I would let you know that there’s another case of it. It didn’t do it for the first few months. Just started recently. It really seems to be when a wired connection is under load. As I can use wifi and yet to notice the issue occurring. Very weird Netduma Fraser
