Finger tighten the nut will I think a 7mm socket and that will be fine, don't use the ratchet or overtighten. As to Wi-Fi performance I think there is new firmware in the pipeline for that.

No, have you used a WiFi analyser to see what other channels around you are on?

where is your router placed and what electrical equipment is near it?

what are your WiFi settings

We would only need to factory reset the router with the new upgrade if we are having problems right? Or should we factory reset the R2 after the upgrade just to make sure everything is in sync?

I believe you need to reset the router after installing .179
