Hello! I'm considering purchasing a NetDuma and have some ?'s

Thanks for your quick and thorough reply - I'll try out your suggestions later today (if have time) or tomorrow otherwise.

For the lag link I need to be able to post screenshots. However, I don't know how to post these to this forum - could you please send me a link to the instructions or explain here ?

For the Geo-map I have cookies enabled - the problem was that I couldn't easily click on my home location I the world map before I zoom in such that the zoom shows the geo- filtered distance with my home in the middle expanded in detail at x10 zoom

I really think it would be good to have in one place a start to finish set up online guide for the netduma including all recommended settings (basic, so called fine tuning & cloud) and including the firmware update at the point you believe appropriate. The guide could include setting options dependant on connection speed still plus whether wiring netduma to modem directly or to router. . It should also include "workarounds" in case things go wrong eg when my router appeared to brick when unexpectedly changing The http address to access it after firmware update (spent about 45 mins trying to work out what to do before finding it in wiki).

My posts are meant positively as im sure/hope you realise

You can see how to post a screenshot here http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=how_do_i_take_a_screen_shot

I'd recommend doing so at a lower zoom level, but to be honest your home location doesn't need to be super accurate, mine is usually in the middle of the UK and I live in London :)

Well we have the optimum settings guide, but yeah we could definitely add some more to it to make it more efficient. The thing with putting the workarounds to issues in the optimal settings guide is that it will become bloated, when we just want to get people set up as fast as possible, there is the FAQ for most issues and failing that the forum, but I totally get where you are coming from and will definitely be trying to streamline the whole process.

Of course, we welcome it so we can be constantly improving :)

Only thing i would add to what gents have sad is the servers that to dont have option to rate are dedicated servers.

You cant rate those as game is running on them most of the time. If you would rate them 0 i could drasticaly damege your game. I doubt you will get any game.

That situation when first you can rate the host and then the option despair its a know sytuation.

What happens is that before the match starts you are connected to a players witch is p2p host that you can rate. As son as the game is starting you are linked trought that player to the dedicated serv. Therefore you are loosing option to rate it.

Thanks for your help.

My settings are below.

Interestingly can see from first picture that the host was well outside the Distance setting - it was 750km when I set 258km to try to avoid continental laggy servers. Can also seem some ping variation but not as bad as when I experience bad lag when it jumps 20 or 30mS above normal level

If there's something obviously wrong in my settings please let me know.  Thanks for your help.

Fraser I understand you want people playing asap but then others will want to get optimal performance. My suggested compromise would be a "quick start guide including the router firmware update and separately a (longer) full set up guide - that way we have the best of both worlds :-)

It looks like you might have the GeoFilter disbabled. The button at the top should say 'Disable' meaning that it is enabled. If it was already enabled, can you read this and it will explain the other reason that you could be connecting to servers outside of the GeoFilter :)

Thanks Crossy. I was on my PS4 which I think on the screen grab does say disable - so it must be ping assist then as happened a couple of times

Hopefully will play better tomorrow - now my ps4 ghosts may is moderate - never had that before

Oh, I missed that screen shot. Yes, it is enabled so it isn't that. It also can't be ping assist as the circle would look different. Is it possible that it was the anti-cheat feature?

To be honest I don't think it anticheat as happened a couple of times in a small sample of games. I've been through my settings again realising that a couple are different to those that a friend uses - I've corrected my PS4 to "VPN enabled"and disabled iPv6.

I understand that with virgin should set MTU to 1492 on Netduma (remembering set up is Virgin Modem => Netgear => Netduma -> PS4) - so I've done that but on LAN and not WAN page - is that correct?

Given my set up I put the Netduma in DMZ of Netgear router (with fixed IP) and have set up WAN page as follows - please let me know if you think this is correct:

Here is my internet analysis page as tested by Netduma:

SO after rebooting Netduma can see that it resets the PS4 to "VPN not ticked" which I guess is ok as Im not using a VPN.

Thankfully my Cod Ghosts  NAT is now back to OPEN (was moderate or strict last night so unpowered netduma and connected PS4 back to Netgear when it was OPEN)

  1. So have you stopped connecting to hosts outside of your GeoFilter?
  2. I'm not sure what Virgin recommend the MTU to me set to but I've always kept mine set to default and not had any issues.
  3. Yes, putting it in DMZ is the right thing to do as you should have an Open NAT. Settings the Static IP is also good as it means the address in the DMZ won't change.
  4. Could you post the part in the detailed section please? :) From just those results though, it looks like you have a good connection.

Thanks:

1. Don't know - still adjusting settings.  Not played one full game yet.

2. THanks changed to default.

3. Good :-)

4.  Would do but doesn't this include my IP?

Just leave out the traceroute part as I think that might do (I'm not too sure). Just post the top part where it is showing the ping to 8.8.8.8 :)

the way I've noticed that when I reboot the netduma by power interrupt it doesnt remember all my settings.  I've been advised to increase ping to 50mS but it puts it back to 30mS after reboot - same with congestion %s too..

So you have a low base ping which means you should get lag free games. Are you getting lag free games?

And the reason that it doesn't save the settings when you reboot via power interrupt is because it only hard saves settings every 1 hour. If you reboot from Settings >> Miscellaneous then it will save those settings :)

Occasionally I get a noticeably better game but in general it doesn't seem much different to be honest.  Saying that in the last days Ive spent more time adjusting settings  than I have playing - I think that for most of last week I didnt have the correct settings since they were lost on rebooting router (which I ironically thought would help but didnt - another tip maybe for your user guide to recommend reboot from settings not power.   It has been pointed out that it may be a problem with my ISP virgin - but Im normally put in games where server in france or germany as extended range to 1000km to avoid other problems

So tonight I'm going to play an hours Ghosts on Xbox one with the new settings to see if thats better or still laggy.

Ok - post back with how it goes :) If you do find that it is laggy then can you post the information from here please.

OK will do - t the moment it cant even find a game of TDM for 5 minutes.  Increased range otherwise disconnecting netduma so can play with mates - game loops checking connection to 98% then starts again.

So get put in a game 7558km away and v laggy when set limit about 1400 to 1500

Are there any padlocks on the GeoFilter? If there are expand the GeoFilter range to cover it :) You could also try increasing ping assist.

no there weren't - working at 1440km and 50mS

games mixed some good, others clearly laggy and some appallingly laggy.  I wish I could have recorded them - one guy shot me when he wasnt even facing me from my perspective and id seen him first and hit him many times...

At the end the games were as bad as ever - tbh I tried a couple of screen grabs as netduma didnt even provide ping with two other games shown > 7000km away!  Here is one screen grab

http://forum.netduma.com/uploads/images/1436822701-U2802.jpg

Conclusion from 2 hours gaming is that a few v good games with the remainder being the same as before..

That one that you're connecting to far away is from ping assist correct? The circle is perforated? It is probably an incorrectly located server if you can ping to it and its low. If you want to PM me to set up a 1 on 1 and I can quickly run through your settings.

To be honest I don't know as didn't zoom out to check - just amazed to be put into such a laggy game so far out of geo- filter distance setting about 7500km v 1500km.

Thanks yes I'd really appreciate your help as I'm hoping a setting is somehow incorrect or incompatible with another one which I don't understand/realise (I've got settings based on recommendations from different people/guides) tho have checked them Sunday against a friends. It will probably be next week as I'm v busy or away this week.

Thanks again - really hoping to get this working as well as everyone else
