xlr8r
not sure this is XR500 related but I noticed after recent firmware update that OPENDNS filetring doesnt work on Porn ? it works for everything else except Porn ...weird ? I have a 9 year old daughter and 14 year old son so i really need filtering to work. I have opened a ticket with OPENDNS and it has them baffled.... using DNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 I have filters "ticked" in OpenDNS dashboard as follows... Could someone else please test with same setup and confirm either way if Porn is still searchable and viewable ? thanks
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 16, 2018 Administrators Share Posted August 16, 2018 If you've already opened a ticket with OpenDNS I would definitely suggest calling Netgear Support or opening a ticket with them, we don't touch anything to do with that so couldn't debug the issue properly. I also can't view porn on the office internet
xlr8r
LOL!! (use a VPN !!) yeh its def a weird one... Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 16, 2018 Administrators Share Posted August 16, 2018 If you revert back to the previous firmware do you have the same issue? Ssssh you'll blow my cover
BIG__DOG
I use cloudflare dns and on the dumaOS the filters are working. I had to disable the filtering in order to reply to this post as "porn" triggered my filter. I am a foster carer so it is vitally important that my filtering works. No, dont want to rock the (latest beta firmware) boat too much... its been stable now 4 days since doing a hard-reboot .... Ill wait and see what OpenDNS come back with ... its a slow process though, takes them 3 days to respond to each email .... but still way faster at responding than Netgear LOL! BIG__DOG
your ISP not have filtering capabilities like mine does (talktalk)? I usually have theirs running and add url's to that also but turned it off as it was blocking me also.....lol.

LOL your filtered word list must be huge (excuse the pun) Maybe my mistake is relying too much on OpenDNS filtering system. I might follow your path and add in a list of dirty words. What are your favourite ... i mean blocked URL's ? So i can add a few in ... Hope the wife isnt looking over my shoulder at the time im typing in the dirty words..!! ...and i must ask my 14 year old son for some, im sure they have changed to new ones over the years hahaha!!! ..wish me luck!! lol!! Zennon
I use the OpenDns family filter on my granddaughters laptop using the adapter settings in windows not on their router but this may be of help. I set up the 208.67.222.123, 208.67.220.123 IP's and it did not work, SKY use IPv6 IP's as well As IPv4 so I used an online IPv4 to IPv6 converter and converted the IP's to IPv6 and placed them in the adapter settings and we then have both IPv covered and it worked straight away. OpenDNS is blocking the Domains okay, but on a Google search, its still easy to search for Porn and see images. Is there any way to force the router into setting Google Safesearch always on. With my last router (r7000 running dd-wrt) i was able to do this , but not with the Xr500...? i.e. Previously , I used the R7000 dd-wrt settings given in this (last) post, which worked well . pity we cant do this on the X5500 Fraser, would it be possible to add a section to Content Filtering where we could import a text list of Domains and also Keywords, as there are quite a few porn words (as you can see here) and being able to import a list would save a LOT of time ?
