N3CR0
So I've had my XR500 4 days and am having an issue or two. The 'Internet' light keeps changing to orange/amber alot. I am not losing connection to my Draytek modem so its not an ISP issue and its only been doing this with the XR500, not with the R1. I'm seeing these ALOT in the logs... [DumaOS] DHCP new lease allocated., Saturday, March 10, 2018 18:46:34 [DumaOS] DHCP new event., Saturday, March 10, 2018 18:46:34 [DHCP IP: 192.168.1.20] to MAC address blah blah blah, Saturday, March 10, 2018 18:46:34. Its been suggested that this should stop happening if I give all devices connected to the XR a static ip but if the WAP IP for the router keeps changing, how could this help the issue? Also seeing these alot in the logs also... [internet idle-timeout] Saturday, March 10, 2018 18:34:23 And these but Google tells me this is nothing to worry about, just the firewall doing its job... hope thats correct. [DoS Attack: ACK Scan] from source: 31.55.184.151, port 80, Saturday, March 10, 2018 17:43:58 Help meeeee!
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 10, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 10, 2018 Are you actually losing connection to the Internet at all? You can also set up a static WAN IP for the XR500 in Settings > Internet Setup. All those log entries look fine to me

Administrators Netduma Admin Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2018 Still happening even after changing the WAP IP to static. Next suggestion please? What mode is Anti-Bufferbloat set to? If it is on High Priority Traffic Detected mode, please could you change it to 'Always' or 'Never' (depending on whether you're gaming). Let us know if this resolves your problem If this is not the case, please could you confirm how often the Internet is dropping. Is anything specific happening at the time e.g. you are gaming? I am also getting my internet cut off for a few seconds and back on, this has been a consistent for a minute now. Hi Zirkawn - this is probably an issue with your Internet provider. Could you create a new topic and give us as much information as possible, Thanks

It seems to be doing it between the hours of midnight and midday so when no one is using the network. Thanks for the info. Can you still access the interface when it goes down? In other words, is just the Internet dropping? I think that given this is an issue with settings you’ll be best off contacting Netgear’s 24/7 live support. They’ll have a lot of experience helping with this type of question. You can contact them here: https://www.netgear.com/support/contact.aspx It haven't experienced it myself yet, coz its mostly happening at night and I'm working all day so I can't be sure about that exactly. What I can say is that after setting the ip to static, once it dropped, it stayed dropped and this morning I had to ethernet to get to the GUI and change back to dynamic ip, then it connected again but then dropped again soon after but this was just before I was leaving for work so didn't have time to do anything else. So after switching to static you had no internet at all? That can only really mean that it didn’t have the correct details. It’s worth trying again - make sure you wait a few minutes after changing the settings before accessing the interface again as it takes a short time to take effect. If you need any help with this I definitely recommend you contact Netgear’s support

Administrators Netduma Admin Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2018 No luck then? Did they give you a ticket number? We can follow this up with them directly
N3CR0
No luck then? Did they give you a ticket number? We can follow this up with them directly I've factory reset the router and gone thru the setup again. I doubt this'll solve the problem but I'll check in the morning to see if its disconnected again and go from there. Really don't get this though, never had this problem with the R1 and so far, this has been the only issue I've had with the XR, everything else works great. Would be a shame to send it back. Administrators Netduma Admin Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2018 Thanks for the update Necro. Hopefully it's ok now. If it does happen again - could you just double check the modem is definitely still online. Because of the timing of the drop out (off peak) it's possible that it's your ISP doing maintenance. N3CR0
Hang on, just seen a setting I didn't see before... In Settings/Internet setup I had connection mode set to Dial On Demand, shouldn't it be set to Always On? Is this why the connection is dropping at night??? Administrators Netduma Admin Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Share Posted March 11, 2018 I'm not sure it would make a difference, but by all means try this!

I had that as well; but I believe the setting being reported was incorrect, because on a reboot of the router it automatically connected

Only for using my old R7000 settings to copy across to the XR500, i would have missed doing this when i was setting mine up as well. LOL (dont forget to set Idle Timeout !!) yes, it should be ; Connection Mode: Always On Idle Timeout (seconds) =
