I need to rant and...

As an at launch owner of the R1(almost.) I have found this software company to be absolutely amazing not only by its ease of use but the tech support that I have received over the years. Absolutely top notch but,  as of now I am having a very difficult time supporting a company that seems to have been leading on its supporters of their product. We had been told multiple timelines that duma OS was coming spring summer fall winter then...soon. Through out all of it you had members on here still praising your software albeit frustrated but non the less praising the product. As time went on more and more users were becoming frustrated with the lack of response in regards to duma OS.  Some including myself understood that this was going to be a longer than expected journey to get to duma OS. Then out of the blue "big announcement coming in Jan."  Everyone on this forum who had been waiting for years now had gathered their popcorn, candy and soda and awaited the moment of the big news.....(drum roll please.)  Duma OS is released on the new Netgear NightHawk xr 500??? What? wait? and you can have it now for $300!!!

This is where I am torn. What a great business decision pairing up with Netgear a billion dollar company. Really congratulations you all must be very proud of the work you put in to develop a software for such an influential and well known company. Software development is expensive what better way than to team up with one of if not the largest to release your software in.  The problem is you forgot about the little guys, "US" your supporters from the beginning who had been lead to believe that we would be getting the new OS. I don't want to sound like a cry baby(Veruca Salt) because I know R1 users are getting it in April but, really April? I also understand the restrictions the R1 hardware imposes on development but we've been lead to believe that the new OS was developed for the R1 but in reality it was for the Nighthawk  :o

There are few things i would like to see answered:

1. We know anti jitter anti spike is coming to R1 is it safe to assume its coming to the night hawk as well along with other features in the future?

2. With your new partnership with Netgear how will support be handled? This has been a tight knit group should we expect to see a drop off in response to issues via this support forum?

3. Lastly not a really a question but as you grow don't lose sight of the small guys.

To other members please feel free to hijack this thread with some of your own questions.....again congratulations on your partnership!!!

First nobody is making you buy a new router, this one works perfectly fine.

To answer your questions, I doubt Netgear will get all the features that the R1 gets and if it does they will be delayed because they have to go through the proper Netgear handles first.

Support would be all from Netgear I would assume.

also answering 1 of your questions.....anti jitter and anti spike features are NOT available on the Nighthawk XR500 and are solely for the R1.

Initially I was pissed as there was no info on the UK release of the Nighthawk and it was US release only (for the moment) and with Netduma being a UK software company I was frustrated. This was due partly to april being a 17 month period since Netduma posted a tweet of the DumaOS also personally I am losing my eyesight and have been forced to take early retirement and voluntary redundancy so my frustration came out yesterday.

Netduma are a fantastic company and I have huge respect for them and also the moderators on here and everyone in the forum who helps each other.

So let's all stop whining about having to wait til April 17th/18th for the dumaOS........at the end of the day you are getting a completely new OS and not an update of the current firmware FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!

Nobody has been forgotten, we will all be getting DumaOS.

I don't know the answers because I'm not part of the development team or the decision making team but I'm assuming exactly the same as MoDBoX.

I don't think Netgear support will be handled here at all. This is a community led support forum, based on our experience of using the Netduma. Unless Netgear are going to supply a whole lot of us with their new router then I don't see how we can offer anything other than very basic support. If we don't have it then we can't answer any questions relating to it because we won't know.

New features will be for our version of DumaOS first (and possibly only on our version) because we are the Netduma community, if something is implemented onto the R1 and Netgear decide they want it then they will have request it of Netduma. It will be our suggestions that will be considered and implemented into the future releases of DumaOS, Netgear have bought/licensed a version of the DumaOS but we will shape the evolution thereafter. Which is awesome.

I think everyone needs stop stressing about what might be and think about what can be. The possibilities are vast and it's very exciting.

People should be thinking about future features that they would like to see implemented on DumaOS and the specifics of how they would like them to function (some may already be in the pipeline of course). I certainly am and I plan on getting in there first to make sure that my voice is heard and my ideas get to the front of the queue.

Consider whose voices might be heard. The forum members that are an active part of the community, that support other users, that support the Netduma team with their words and their actions. The lovers if you like.

Or the others.

I know which group I'd listen to.

Thanks for creating a new topic to voice your concerns/feedback. I'll answer a few of the points you have made.

I also understand the restrictions the R1 hardware imposes on development but we've been lead to believe that the new OS was developed for the R1 but in reality it was for the Nighthawk

This seems to be a wide spread assumption. We started developing DumaOS way before this started. As you rightfully mentioned the hardware for the R1 is older and means we have to do speed optimisations - this is not the case for the beefier hardware of the XR500 and that means its more ready on that platform than it is on the R1. XR500 also utilises Netgear settings which means that we didn't have to create settings for it - which we have to do for the R1.

We know anti jitter anti spike is coming to R1 is it safe to assume its coming to the night hawk as well along with other features in the future?

That is up to Netgear, it is their platform and they decide what will be on the firmware. That means we can't experiment with new features on it like we can with the R1.

With your new partnership with Netgear how will support be handled? This has been a tight knit group should we expect to see a drop off in response to issues via this support forum?

XR500 support will go to them, it is their product. However, you may have seen I have created a DumaOS section on the forum. If questions/issues arise there we will answer them.

Normal forum support for existing R1 software will continue.
