Still not as many players on next gen imo. Add to that, further dilution of the player base with those who do and dont own the DLC and it makes and already poor matchmaking system worse.

This sounds like the most plausible explanation to me

I know this must wind people up, but I still find it amazing how it differs from people to people.

Still playing great for me on xb1 (no map packs). Went 46-1 on retreat this morning on core TDM (and was killed going for smart ass kill cam lol).

Just to add it is a clan wars weekend too which I find makes matchmaking even worse.

Can anybody advise me how to move the map packs for ghosts onto an external drive please as I may go back and try that.

You need to use a USB3 device

From xbox website......

In My games & apps, you can view content by storage device. To do this, highlight a game or app, press the Menu button on your controller, and then select Manage game. You will then be able to move or copy content between storage devices.

Ive seen a few people saying that you have to download map packs to a USB drive and you simply remove it when you dont want to play the dlc.

Ill give it a go when I get a USB stick big enough lol

Yeah you will not be able to play them from the stick unless you move them back to the internal but its worth the hassle only takes about 5 mins for all 4 map packs on ghosts for me , and aw is only on 2 packs at the min :)

Have you tried Ghosts with the map packs taken out so you can find games?

That plays really well with the Netduma.

Are there a lot more playing if you remove the maps? I'll give it a go if so.

This is absolutely true for me.  With the DLC in, I run into WAY more hardcore gamers (Scufs, Modded Controllers, 2+ K/D slayers all day, usually in parties).

In the straight, "core" maps, you get the people who "usually" bought the game and that was the end of their purchasing interest.  They didn't opt for DLC, or any gaming "enhancements" for one lone title.

If you think about it, it makes sense.  If you opt for DLC, you are probably more serious about the title, thus you are more likely to spend some extra $$ to be good and on something you have taken interest playing regularly.  That is what happened to me.

As to player count, and bear in mind I mostly play Blops and Blops 2, there are more players playing without the DLC, then there are playing with it active.  If I play DLC maps on a week night, I run into the same guys lobby after lobby.  With the DLC removed, it's rare to see the same guys in multiple lobbies.

This has been a favorite YT trick for awhile.  Guy's with big channels down their DLC videos, and then you RARELY if ever see a DLC map in their normal game-play rotation, because they pull them to get better lobbies.

Tips and tricks man, tips and tricks. :D

This is such a good point, about the hardcore player having the new maps. I'll have to try moving my maps to a jump drive.

By the way you should also avoid the Clan War playlists on those weekends. I play solo and hate trying to take on a clan.

Just to add, you also have to remember that AW is seven, almost eight months into its life cycle.

So, the only ones left are the die-hard, hardcore players e.g. Clans and Parties.

The majority of the CoD Community disliked AW. I can't say I blame them. It can be a fun game at times, but it's not CoD and is a poor "Halo" wannabe... Because it takes zero skill which means the game relies on killing (K/D) to be remotely fun unlike Halo.

Even though Activision didn't release player numbers, it's evident AW had the fastest decline in player base since launch. Even Ghosts didn't drop off, two, three months later. It took around the usual time frame (six to eight months) even though everybody "hated" Ghosts, supposedly (a lot of people liked Ghosts, but kow tow to peer pressure).

On top of this, the few players on XB1 show how badly MS lost the console war this generation since there are always at least 3x the players on PS4, even at this stage of the game.
