Netduma R1 - Billion 8800AXL setup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm considering buying a Netduma R1 but I'm a bit concerned about the wireless capabilities of the router. I currently have a Billion 8800AXL VDSL2 AC 1300 modem router but from what I understand I'd have to put this in bridge mode then connect the R1 to it to handle router functionality? Is this the only feasible setup?

Many thanks

you can put the R1 into the DMZ of your 8800, but if you leave the 8800's wifi on and let devices connect to it, you'll be side stepping some of the advantages your R1 will give you.  They recommend you have everything pass through the R1 before it gets to your modem router.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Exactly as said above. Would recommend everything goes through the R1 in order for congestion control specifically to work correctly.

What are your speeds? Do you have a large area the WiFi needs to cover? Would you be using WiFi for gaming?

Thanks Fraser. My download speed is 70 Mbps and my upload speed is 20 Mbps. Just my house which isn't that big and no, I've got a network cable that goes up to my bedroom and into an unmanaged switch. Since my OP I've decided to take the plunge and an R1 should be delivered to me today.

Great to hear, welcome to the DumaArmy MacTavish! Those speeds will work great with the Netduma; I'd recommend these settings:

- Reactive Algorithm
- 70% anti-flood
- IPv6 disabled in WAN, LAN and Misc
- Deep Packet Processing disabled
- Share excess enabled
- Reset device prioritisation & apply

Let us know if you have any questions about setting it up.

Thanks Jack! Should I also use Hyper-Traffic for Xbox and do I need to reboot the router after applying those settings? I'm predominantly going to be playing FIFA, are there any specific settings or recommendations for it?

Yep I'd go for hyper-traffic; that function is only meant for low-latency traffic though, so only put a console on there. You shouldn't need to reboot after inputting settings. For Fifa 17 we tend to recommend 1000 - 2000km radius with 60ms ping assist; though there's some weird net-coding with Fifa that's recently been coming to light such as player handicaps. We get people saying they encounter Fifa lag a lot when their ping is perfect, so keep an eye on your connection in games. Let us know if you need any more help :)

Congratulations on getting your new toy.Just a quick heads up when you do go to reboot your duma,be sure a do it from miscellaneous settings as a lot of people are still unplugging it to reboot it, which in most case isn't necessary.

Hope you enjoy your new router... :D

Where do I go to add my console to Hyper-Traffic? Those settings are different to the ones in the FIFA profile? Is a tablet the best way to check your connection before games as I tried it on my phone and the Host Filtering map was too small to see really? Thanks fuzzy :D

Hyper traffic can be found at the bottom of the congestion control screen. It isn't affected by profile selection. Yes tablets are definitely preferable to phones for the Netduma interface, though we hope to remedy this with DumaOS with a much more user-friendly phone interface.

Sorry Jack, I was referring to the FIFA settings you mentioned, they aren't the same as what the profile selects? Thanks

The Fifa profile was made for Fifa 16; but either way, you should be able to configure the Geofilter to your liking so long as it's not limiting your search. The settings I recommended are generally good for matchmaking, but if you prefer the profile then there's no reason either shouldn't work. Are you having decent Fifa games? :)

Well I played 4 games last night and the first one was laggy but the next 3 played well. I was using the FIFA profile with the Geo-filter set to approximately 372 miles and Ping Assist set to 40 ms. I'm playing the game mode that only uses dedicated servers tonight so I'll have to see how that goes.
