Dellgenius
Hey there, so I got my Netduma almost a year ago and so far it has been doing wonders. Now this isn't really a problem I have, its more of an inconvenience. So let me get right into it. I have two floors in my house, and the netduma is at the top floor. Since the signal doesn't go all the way downstairs, I have a Wife Extender setup down there. What this does, essentially, is take the netduma signal, make a new network, and provide internet like that. So anything connected to the WiFi extender is basically considered one device. Lets say I have two phones and a laptop connected to the extender, which is connected to the netduma, The netduma will treat this as one device. So if I wanna change the priorities of one device, I can't. Anything applied to the extended goes to all devices connected to it. Now if there is a solution to make the netduma recognize each device individually, that would be great. Thanks
abc123
you need to turn the second router into an access point, this makes it so that every device connecting to it is actually connected to the netduma. You want to make sure this second router is wired I recommend the UAC AC PRO (it is nice and not too expensive)
ColonicBoom
As ABC said, if the wifi extender is put into an Access Point mode it will solve your problem. That's how I have mine running at the moment and all devices are individually visible in the priority 'flower'.

As above If it's a wifi extender, not a router that he's using as an access point, then it probably doesn't have an access point mode. What it does is connect to the wireless network of the netduma and then broadcast a new wifi network. From my understanding of how they work, I don't think you can fix this. Yes, i have tried to put it into access point but it does not seem to have that option. Is there no other solution?
Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted September 20, 2016 Netduma Staff Share Posted September 20, 2016 I Am MoD BoX is correct; unfortunately due to the way that wi-fi extenders work, it will only show up as one device on the device prioritisation without showing you the sub-devices running on it. As of yet, we don't have a way to solve this, but could potentially try to implement a work-around in future upgrades. The only way you can get around that issue is by getting a router to do the job, and putting it in AP mode.

So are you saying that to make each device show up individually is not possible at all or that it must be implemented into the netduma to work? Thanks

Thanks He's saying that if ModBox is correct (and I expect he is) then it's not possible to see the devices individually with a wifi extender. If you use an additional router, that is in 'Access Point' mode, then it definitely is possible because I am doing it already.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 21, 2016 Administrators Share Posted September 21, 2016 As above ^ WiFi extender - devices connected to it will just appear as 1 device on the duma. We cannot discern the individual devices when set up like this. Router in AP mode - We can discern every single device and they appear as individual devices on the duma. If it's not in AP mode we would only see it as 1 device.
