Reactive vs. Preemptive?

Recommended Posts

I searched but couldn't find any specific information detailing what the difference is between reactive and preemptive algorithm. What does each do? What does each do differently?

I noticed that when I ran preemptive my speeds were around 36mbps. When I ran speed test with reactive my speeds were at their "normal" 95-100+mbps. That's interesting.

Could anyone explain the reasoning behind this? Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks!

If you have speeds over 50Mbps stick with Reactive, otherwise use Preemptive.

The two algorithms are designed to control queue length management (packet related and very relevant in gaming).

Reactive is based on a successful and popular implementation that in 90-95% of cases is very effective (IMO).

Preemptive is a patent algorithm created by Netduma_Iain and the Netduma team, not sure what it may be inspired by and we likely won't but what I've read before is when firmware 2.0.0 drops we may very well see a new "beefier" Preemptive revision!

Preemptive should be selected if your download speed is below 60mbps. If you have a download speed which is greater than 60mbps, then you should select Reactive.

Furthermore to achieve over 100mbps you need to go to “Settings > Misc” and disable deep packet processing.

For me it has never been so cut and dry in testing, so use what works best for you while using congestion control to keep jitter at a minimum while there is local congestion.

I have 50mbps download...but i use Reactive...it works better for me...Reactive also uses Fq_Codel algorithm  ;) .

Yeah that's right Reactive is FQ_Codel, Premptive is patented and exclusive to the R1.
