ColonicBoom
It allows you to deal with local congestion (people in your house hogging all the bandwidth). It allows you to prioritise the packets to and from your gaming device so that the data that is being transmitted doesn't get caught up behind other data packets from 'less important' activities (stuff other people are doing). It allows you to be selective with game hosts, you can filter out hosts that you deem 'too far away', or filter in hosts with a ping below a specific value, and you can block hosts that you find don't 'host' well, etc. If you look on their website you will be able to read all that it does and it's explained much better there than I have here. It can still help if your internet sucks but no, it won't improve your internet.

But it has worked a miracle on my local congestion that my son makes
Net-1
Host selection to improve ping has been mentioned but also, my own personal tests have confirmed that, with the right settings, it pretty much eliminates jitter and packet loss (locally, on the identified gaming connection at least ) which, for me, constitutes "improvement of internet"
