New NETDUMA and everything is working poorly

Recommended Posts

New NETDUMA as of yesterday, connection speed was junk, keep losing wifi connectivity, and the 192.168.88.1 page loads extremely slow after about 20 minutes.

was preinstalled as 1.03.3

updated to 1.03.4 and no change. that I got at https://netduma.com/upgrade/

found 1.03.5m in the fine tune guide, updated to that, no change.

I followed the fine tuning guide very carefully when I got it, and every time I updated the firmware.

Re selected PS4 and PSN (something about some change in the new firmware, I don't remember, but I did it anyways)

I enabled cookies and still some of my settings keep getting reset.(particularly Peer Ping Auto Ping Host Kilometres)

I pay for up to 155mbps and usually get around 90.

With NETDUMA at first I got it up to 30mbps.

eventually updated to 1.03.5, followed guide again, speed now around 46

  Set up DMZ

Started playing for a few hours (even though I was very unhappy with the 46mbps)

WIFI connection intermittent

Adjusted the congestion control. (I had set the dl and ul cap at 70 already) to my ps4 being 80% with share excess enabled.

An hour later:

the page to adjust settings on router running very slowly, have to reboot router to fix, but then does it again after a while

   CONNECTON SPEED BELOW 5mbps (download)!

Also, accidentally white-listed the wrong person. Is there anyway to delete that person?

UPnP enabled

Set Bandwidth is set to 155 dl, and 155 ul (I couldn't find advertised ul speed)

Hey, welcome to the forum Stratelz.

First of all what modem is the Netduma connected to?

Secondly, can you check then following for the speeds. Make sure you change these settings using a browser other than Internet Explorer (preferable Google Chrome).

  1. Deep packet processing is disabled in Settings >> Miscellaneous.
  2. In congestion control, the sliders are set to 100% and you have press the reset putting under device prioritisation. Also makes sure you are using the reactive algorithm and you have entered the correct speeds.
  3. In Settings >> WAN, LAN and Miscellaneous you have disabled IPv6.

Thank you for your prompt response. I have already tried all that before posting (minus the sliders at 100%, but that did not help). I edited my posts with screen shots for better clarification.

It is connected to a TECHNICOLOR TC8305C (which is just some modem Comcast sent me)

Reset congestion, no change.

Hello,

If you do the following you will be able to get way beyond 500mbits:

  • Select reactive algorithm in "Congestion Control"
  • Set anti-flood sliders to 100% in both directiosn in "Congestion Control"
  • Click "Reset Distribution" at the bottom of "Congestion Control"
  • Untick deep packet processing in "Settings > Misc"
  • In "Settings > LAN" disable IPv6 then click apply
  • In "Settings > WAN" disable IPv6 then click apply
  • In "Settings > Misc" disable link-local IPv6

Few side notes:

  • If you are using PPPoE all bets are off. Use the original modem with pppoe and don't use pppoe with the Netduma if you want high speeds
  • In the latest firmware 1.3.05m there is a bug with device prio and turbo for some people. Make sure it has "Reset Distribution". If you want to use this feature you can either 1) Wait till new firmware is out or 2) Downgrade but that will not have turbo mode and will be limited to around 120mbits
  • Finally do not use the routers VPN feature if you expect high speeds
  • Make sure you're using gigabit ethernet cables

That will resolve any speed issues you have. Having said that bandwidth has absolutely nothing to do with good gaming connections so if you need further help I highly recommend following this guide: http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=fine_tune_netdumabefore posting for further help.

Merry Xmas

I have already followed all those steps. I will try downgrading the firmware. I do not use PPPoE or VPN. The only difference is I had the recommended 70% on the sliders. That did not solve the problem. When I connect directly to my previous modem I am getting my normal speeds. To the NETDUMA I am getting 4.6mbps.

So all that was already done if you had looked at the screen shots I posted. I do not use PPPoE or VPN. The only difference is I had the recommended 70% on the sliders. That did not solve the problem. When I connect directly to my previous modem I am getting my normal speeds. To the NETDUMA I am getting 4.6.

I read that the company is being built organically. When I found out I was getting a NETDUMA for Christmas I hyped it to all my friends online telling them of all the cool features. I would hate to have to return it and give such a poor review to all the people I hyped it to. I will screen shot this conversations (in case anyone happens to take it down) and recommend you read someones full post before posting such snippy remarks as, "Having said that bandwidth has absolutely nothing to do with good gaming connections so if you need further help I highly recommend following this guide: http://wiki.netduma....ne_tune_netdumabefore posting for further help." and if that is standard company rhetoric I suggest rephrasing it as to not continue offending people.

Either the screen shots don't reflect the most recent setting changes or you've not read the instructions you've been given. You have not reset device prioritisation. You must do that otherwise you will not receive the speeds you expect.

Just a sidenote, this forum is different to others. It looks like you might have come on here expecting people to be rude and unwilling to help but that really isn't the case. Iain is the lead developer of the router - not many other companies (if any) have someone in that role such as that on their forum doing customer support over the Christmas holidays. All I want to say is that everyone on here is friendly and happy to help. Happy Xmas.

If you have the sliders set at 70% then you are applying throttling. Whenever doing speed tests make sure they are 100% and and also that device prio is reset do not move it after you reset it.

Congestion control does things to help with gaming but will reduce speed we can address that later but if you follow my post above you will get full speed.

Yeah I had hoped I edited that out in time. Just frustrated it is now 3PM and have been tinkering with it since 6AM. And I had already mentioned in the original post that I went through that link that was posted, and (not posted) had looked at multiple threads on the forums. The insinuation set me off, I apologize.

Downgraded firmware to 1.03.4 did not help.

Maybe it is just a hardware issue between the routers?

Using Enet cable that came w the router.

Merry christmas to you as well

It's no problem - it's often difficult to communicate tone over messages :)

1.03.5m has most of the speed improvements so you'd probably be better of sticking to that version.

Have you press reset distribution under device prioritisation?

Are you doing the test wired?

I did reset the distribution and it is wired. No change

Please sir don't be rude. Threatening to leave a bad review is not going to get your problem fixed any quicker. We have thousands of postive reviews on the Internet because the product works and our customer service is excellent.

I don't know what more to tell you if you follow the instructions above you will get full speed. I tried to cover every possibility as not to waste your time.

And bandwidth is irreleevant to gaming I was trying to have foresight and be polite by letting you know once we resolve this issue we need to use the other features which will actually help with gaming.

Normally we would schedule a 1 on 1 with you where one of the support staff will access your computer remotely and setup the router for you. But we can't do that till Tuesday because everyone is away from the office.

I understand it's frustrating but i can't give you any more info then the post above. If you follow that you will have full speeds.

Sorry I see you're trying to get above 120mbits in addition to what I said you'll need to tick turbo mode in settings > Misc .

It would be nice, but I don't usually achieve that much (advertised as up to 155). Usually around 90. Anywhere close to 90 and I would be happy. I already had turbo mode checked. I am currently getting 4-6 (a fifteenth of the usual). I will continue to tinker with it and if I am successful I will check back on Tuesday when the office is open. Thank you for your time and happy holidays.

Thanks for the patience and very sorry for the inconvieance. We will be there to help on Tuesday if it's not fixed before.

Such a drastic slow down reminds me of two things only

1) are you doing these tests wired? Wifi interference can cause massive issues we can help there if it's the case just try a wired to confirm that a the problem.

2) IPV6 can cause huge slow down please double check that is disabled as mentioned before

Sorry if you've mentioned anything already I've had to read hundreds of threads today.

One thing I think that needs to be understood is that once you reset distribution DO NOT touch device priorities after that.  If you do it will cut your speed because device priorities is bugged right now.  So after resetting distribution don't use device priorities.
