ANNOUNCEMENT: Introducing the Netduma R3
TG3NOC1D3 replied to Netduma Lew's topic in News & Announcements
I'm across the pond in Colorado lol. Tuesday is back to business as usual for us unfortunately, I believe that is your boxing day isn't it? Or rather innit 😛 -
So we use Cisco Webex and their devices at our branch, we can see the cluster in real time so it would be cool to see for instance, which zoom server you're on, then balance the spikes if the current server is under heavy load. I think it would be doable, probably a backend API update to run on Geo-Filter to see those servers. I believe zoom's IP's for their dedicated servers are public information as well. Truth be told, my fiber connection is super stable, however, I can tell when the servers are getting slammed or I get thrown onto a different server because I went from 30-40 kills with like 15 deaths pretty consistently to death city and "Omg, my shots are rubber!" lol. I think the more you guys promote the video on the forums the better it would be. Maybe sticky a thread with some explanation videos and how-to's on the top of the R3 support and the R3 Announcement running thread as well. Maybe save some headaches lol.

I just finished watching the video on my lunch break, even my boss who is an officer of our IT department here at the bank was like "Man, this would be genius for video calls, especially with places we don't have fiber circuits available." I was very impressed with how it watches the initial jitter and then ramps it up to a stable sync with the server.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Introducing the Netduma R3

Ahh, I don't use DHL a lot so I wasn't aware of the conservative buffer, I had a feeling it would get here on Tuesday more than likely, but that is ok, I took the day off to put your router through it's paces lol. -
It's pretty much adding artificial latency to help stabilize jitter that is experienced across all public routers along the way to and from the game server and your home connection, right? I assume this is kind of what it is doing since most public routers have variance due to congestion or age of hardware.

So the website says 1-2 business day shipping but I just got a notice that it is estimated arrival of January 3rd?? The shipping fee is pretty hefty for it to not at least make it in 3-4 days even with the holiday. I am happy to support but I thought if I ordered it I would at least have it before new years. Thank you for the request insert, there are some other suggestions I have but I need to dig around and see the new interface first and see how it all works. -

No worries, pulled the trigger anyways so hoping this upgrade is worth it in the long run. Hopefully we see some DOH TLS style DNS encryption in the long run. It'll probably get here on Tuesday which is fine by me, I just wanted to see if this device would be viable for my needs going forward as I may ditch my UDM Pro since they are lacking on features and abilities anyways. -

Just curious, if I place my order today, is there any chance this lands before Christmas or maybe day after latest? -
First thing, do not port forward 3074 to multiple devices as this will conflict with the port table. I would suggest if playing COD on multiple consoles, forward 3074 to one, 3075 to the other. For Xbox, you can change the default port on the xbox in the network settings menu to an alternate port. I would suggest doing that and then using 3074 specifically for COD on xbox. Then, forward all the ports FairyPusher suggest for PS5. Go into your router, set a dhcp reservation in network settings (aka static IP res) and reserve individual IP's for both your xbox and ps. Now, power the consoles COMPLETELY DOWN. Rest mode will not catch the new configs from the router automatically, I also recommend rebooting the router as well just to be safe and let the forwards get put into the table. Hope this helps.

Ok, when you see those triangles, ignore them. All you are looking for is less them +5ms increase during download and upload. The website doesn't know your route latency to the gaming servers. I get a lower ping in games than I do on the test. The test even gives me checkmarks, I also have fiber, but realistically you are just making sure your bloat stays within +5 ms or less as this is what is considered excellent. Very good is +10ms or less when using dslreports bufferbloat speed test. Trust me, don't get hung up on the check marks or danger triangles, those don't mean jack shit when it games to gaming cloud servers. Last note, there is no way to block youtube ads without a lot of work on the browser side and a vpn and dns tunneling, it just isn't worth the headache man.

Ping optimizer is busted after update. UDM Pro latest update caused my R2 to get super low speeds so was trying out the R2 running my network for the evening, kinda disappointing seeing the broken app and not being able to optimize my ping now.
-
You very well could have extreme amounts of jitter that you didn't see before in game as in game ping counter typically shows the average. The ping in ms on Duma is your active ping, not the average. So in game though, you are now seeing steady ping artificially add a buffer to deal with jitter or "variance" in your connection. Hope this helps, but lowest of low ping doesn't mean good. Stability is key for gaming because even a 15-20 ms spike in game, may not be noticeable to your eye, but the server, it feels it, which means your gameplay feels it.

Try setting your xbox to a custom port in the network settings. Then, forward that port so it uses something unique instead of the standard 3074 which MW also uses. Also, after adding ports to the R3, I would try and reboot the Modem/Router with the R3 powered down. Then after the ISP gateway turns on, bring the R3 back online. Also, what is the model of your ISP Gateway? I can see if there is a workaround for it.

Question regarding DumaOS 4.0, will there ever be a plan to implement something like IPS/IDS in the future? -

I honestly feel for those of us who have supported since the R1 should be offered access to a beta dumaOS 4 for the R2 ahead of others. Would be nice to feel like our continued support is recognized imo. I understand the focus is on the R3 but man, it would be nice to see a loyalty program since we put these devices and beta firmwares into our networks to test. -

Like beta testing the R3 or the Duma os 4 software on r2? I think I signed up for that as well. Could I get a crack at that as well? I'm a network engineer for a living so I'd like to run test from current Duma os software to the new and see if I can give some feedback. -

All I am seeing is that bandwidth is cut in half when using smartboost for qos. I run a UDM-Pro with the R2 running as my geofilter with all the qos stuff turned off. My UDM-Pro gives me a much smaller loss hitting around 750Mbps down and up with SQM running. -

How did you get the R3 already when it is in pre-order status? -

If I order on the 14th when I get paid, would it be here by Christmas day in the US? -
Let me drop some knowledge on you. The PS5 and Xbox Series models are both capped at gigabit speed due to their nic. You would gain zero benefit from more speed. I have gigabit fiber and just getting off of coax has improved my gameplay by miles my friend. Fiber has way less jitter which means your latency holds more stable resulting in better hit detection. This won't fix a dhitty server, but I've seen a dramatic improvement in my detection but your mileage may vary. Anything past a gig is a little overkill especially if you have a place to yourself or a decent sized family. You'd be surprised at what it takes so saturate a gigabit line lol.

Showing some love to my brothers across the pond! Hope you guys are enjoying this incredible wrestling ppv at Wembley!! Anyone on the forum there live?! Who's watching at home?

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Netduma R2 is here

Do you realize once they create a firmware it is up to Netgear QC and Engineering to approve said firmware? They just handle the OS firmware, they do not handle the actual deployment for any of the Netgear devices. -
I have 2 FlexHD units, Wi-Fi was pretty good but it wasn't Wi-Fi 6 and it left some coverage to be desired. I'm very aware that FQ Codel is fine, UI-Glenn on the forums had stated that they were looking into using Cake QOS with POC like what is popularly used in OpenWRT. That is where my source came from, however, I do not have the time to go digging for it as it was a response to someone sometime mid last year. Not really a big deal but it would be nice to have. Considering with the right device, you can pull closer to gigabit with cake versus when i set QOS on the UDM Pro, I got around mid 700 Mbps. I never bothered adding on packages or Cake due to the issues and them not being support and a "Use at your own risk" kind of deal. Me knowing "my stuff" has no bearing here, I've seen a lot of people suffer due to problematic 3rd party apps. Adblocking would be nice to check out if they advance it but the Netduma R2 has a pretty robust adblock system. My issue still stands that they promised these features to us a long while back and dropped a new router/IPS/Firewall instead of working on the UDM Pro. That is where a ton of people, myself included because I won't lie here, got pretty friggin salty over feeling like a second though. I was told by support that on Unifi OS 2.x and higher you can't roll back, so I haven't bothered digging into it. This is my issue though is that a lot of Ubiquiti users get bent out of shape anytime someone criticizes their product or support. Numerous people have had issues with them and their giant breach due to shit management sent a huge red flag up the pole for a lot of people. You immediately felt the need to call my intelligence of said product into question, which was bush league move at best imo. If you didn't mean offense, you have a hell of a way of showing it. At the end of the day, my current setup works great and I have been very civil with Ubiquiti's support team in getting the issue resolved so I can hopefully use my expensive paper weight as an actual router again.

Curious what everyone uses to get around the geo-blocks on your favorite streaming apps. Been looking into a few like nordvpn and proton but I'm seeing conflicting posts on whether they get around country filters. Lemme know your experience with this!

I understand the settings just fine, even support is looking into the issue to see what caused it. I removed the UDM Pro from my network stack and running from ONT > PC directly, I experienced zero packet loss and stable ping. Not very impressed either with the fact that they still haven't released adblocking to the UDM Pro or cake qos like they said they would by now. I work as a network engineer and wanted to start using them in our environment due to their cost being way cheaper than Cisco. Now that I've seen numerous people having issues with their more recent firmwares, I'll hold off for now.
