mannrs got a reaction from Netduma Fraser in Internet Optimiser vs Game Optimiser
    Hey @Mr Rohbot, @Fairypusher

Telstra Game Optimiser was our initial launch of DumaOS on our Smart Modem's for home internet, it was a paid subscription.
In late 2022 we replaced/refreshed this to become Telstra Internet Optimiser, following the Netduma team broadening DumaOS's prioritisation abilities beyond gaming traffic to work from home applications like Zoom, MS Teams, Webex etc.  And at that point we changed it to become an included feature with our broadband plans.  We dont yet run DumaOS 4, but future versions of Internet Optimiser will.

Then at a mobile network level unrelated to Netduma, we have an addon for our 4G/5G mobile plans known as Mobile Latency Optimiser for mobile gamers  and other on the go real-time uses (https://www.telstra.com.au/optimisers/mobile-latency-optimiser).

Hi @netuser, afraid we dont have a date to report for the full 1Gbps plan support, it will be next year.  But if you like, I can enable it manually for you and your welcome to monitor performance to see if your happy with it like MurF.  Just PM me your @bigpond.com service ID (is on your invoice and in MyTelstra).

    Hey @MountainMuse
Most of the changes are related to the underlying firmware, notably; bug fixes of slow occurring memory leaks, 5Ghz WiFi channel changing improvements, Telstra booster interoperability bug fixes.
For DumaOS it was: A bug fix to do with improper Factory reset handling, bug fix to with Network Priority/Auto-Enable congestion control reliability, a stability bug fix to do with hardware acceleration that could cause a crash in rare scenarios

Thats right - When enabled with all features, our Gen 2 Smart Modem's hit a performance ceiling of ~450Mbps and Gen 3 hit around ~700Mbps.  So we dont offer it to Ultrafast because of the potential to restrict a customers maximum achievable plan speed.  There is however imminent progress in using on-chip hardware acceleration capabilities to process the prioritised traffic at full rates and solve this issue.

Hey @MuRF FuRY yeah upgrade pushed through - Apologies! I trampled your DumaOS settings by forcing the upgrade (device names, dashboard etc) sorry about that.

Notable change/improvement with this firmware version is that Upload congestion control will follow Auto-Enable, where previously only Download did.  And upload prioritisation should generally be a bit better.  I'd suggest trying using Auto-Enable again, because this will mean when your not gaming all of the connection bandwidth will be available rather than sacrified.

Quick poke around your device before the upgrade and some suggestions; I'd suggest using the web interface http://192.168.0.1/ from your mobile or desktop, rather than the DumaOS app.  We (Telstra) dont specifically advertise or test the Netduma mobile app for use so there will be occasionally feature/functions that dont align with the Telstra firmwares (example being data history), that can make it confusing for you.
And when troubleshooting gaming performance, I'd suggest in the first instance use the default priority rules instead of creating specific ones (unless you have to).  Reason being that DumaOS' receives periodic over the air updates to the app/protocol definitions as game servers/app protocols change, and the DumaOS Classified Games category always inherits those.
If you do need to create specific Traffic Prioritisation rules, be sure to select the Advanced button in the wizard and select traffic type Gaming/Voice.  But the main thing you want to verify when troubleshooting is that your priority traffic (eg. MW3) is triggering priority packet counters as expected against your/or DumaOS Gaming's rule.  And likewise, when generating significant non priority traffic like OneDrive verify (use Network Monitor and drill down on the device) that the data transfer traffic is either classified as Unknown or something like Microsoft or Office365, which DumaOS treats as lower priority than Gaming - so you know that the two traffic types are not both being treated as high priority

Hoping you have a better run with this version 🤞

Hi @MuRF FuRY sorry to see the problems you been having but huge appreciation for your persistence and feedback.  We have a new firmware rolling out soon that I can put you on early to try *fingers crossed*.  If you PM me your serial number from the http://192.168.0.1/ login screen, I'll push it through - it will reboot your modem so do call out any times of day *NOT* to push it

Hi @MuRF FuRY its likely not your issue, but this thread reads similar to a rabbit chase I did last year with Battlefield 2042 on Xbox & a Gen3 firmware.  We've resolved the root cause in  future Telstra/DumaOS firmwares, but the triggering issue was an Xbox system setting:
General > Network settings > Advanced settings > QoS tagging settings. You'll see two options labelled DSCP tagging and WMM tagging.  I had manually turned these on and they were actually triggering the issue, worth checking they're not enabled on your Xbox.

Hi @maudish, what type of Telstra Smart Modem do you have (Gen 2 or Gen 3?)  As we do have an imminent firmware upgrade coming for the Gen 3 that significantly improves upload prioritisation and shaping.

Hi @Eskimo, just to add to Fraser's suggestion - if you haven't noticed yet, for the devices where we couldn't identify a name, you can click on them to rename manually.  We aim to improve the auto detection in the future, but with a little setup and like Fraser suggested doing some YouTube or speedtest.net  on the devices one by one, to work out which ones they are you should be able to get the family devices neatly identified to use in Network Rules for time based internet blocking.
Sorry for the trouble and hoping its otherwise useful for you!

Thanks for the extra info @Steve Young, am fairly confident this has been resolved already for a future firmware/version, but must admit I've never seen it confusing the booster-connected devices as wired like yours is doing.  Its usually just that it doesnt understand the Gen 3 booster is a network topology item, so its downstream connected devices dont tree up under it as they should, like mine below (the 4x devices above it are actually wired LAN):

Have kept myself a note to update you here, when we have those firmwares available to customer test in the next few months.  Thanks again for reporting it and hopefully its otherwise useful for you.  As a side note, there are some updates starting to go out next week which will improve the protocol detection, for more video conferencing & media apps.

    Hi @Steve Young,
Thanks for your feedback and sorry about your experience.  As Fraser suggested the primary intent of Internet Optimiser is to provide you the ability to prioritise real-time applications to prevent interruptions from other usage happening in the household, but we know customers like using the secondary features like Device Manager so definitely want to resolve visual issues like these.

Could you help confirm which Telstra modem & booster your running there?  Was it the Gen 3 devices (they're black) or was it Gen 2 (white) devices?

For the Gen 3 devices we have some firmware updates upcoming in the next few months that do include improvements to the WiFi booster discovery mechanism, so am hoping what your seeing here is covered by that.

    Thanks for the details @Bund1984

Just to be really sure DumaOS isnt causing the issue.  Could you use MyTelstra to deactivate Internet Optimiser, now that its a free feature it wont cost you anything to turn it back on later.  Once deactivated, reboot your Smart Modem, so we can be sure its nothing is left loaded in its memory.
Then retry Fifa - still got lag?
Apologies for suggesting repeating what you've already tried, but I recently saw something really really strange with another EA game, and rebooting the device after deactivating DumaOS actually produced different results.  It wasnt actually a DumaOS bug, but gave us hints to what was happening.

Hi @Bund1984, additionally just for our context (apologies if you already posted these and I missed it)
Have you been playing the same Fifa version/EA servers and its only just recently started lagging for you in recent weeks?  I can see you started posting here just before Xmas, has it been a long running problem even before that? Did you have the problem before starting to use Internet Optimiser/DumaOS? Does the lag consistently happen at particular times of day, eg. evening but not in the morning Do you do any other online gaming from the PS5, eg.  Is this just a Fifa thing? With the Connection Indicators on, and your suffering lag, approximately what milisecond (ms) levels is the game reporting? (I'm not a Fifa player, but checking around you can turn these on at Settings > Game Settings >Visual >Connection Indicators) Because you only have a couple of other devices on your network, and you have a pretty healthy looking high speed connection.  I think its unlikely that your ongoing Fifa/ping issues are always being caused by local congestion.  DumaOS/Internet Optimiser and the prioritisation functions, primarily help where there a many devices in a household fighting for the use of the internet, so I think its unlikely to be your ongoing problem.  So things I'd suggest: Ruling out that DumaOS is not actually contributing to the problem.  Use MyTelstra to deactivate Internet Optimiser temporarily, then reboot your Gen 3 Smart Modem to ensure all has cleared - and play, did your lag still occur?  If still occuring, re-activate Internet Optimiser Ruling out wireless as the cause.  Can see from a previous post, your already connecting the PS5 via cable. If your ping time is consistently high, rather than spiking up and sometimes going back down.  You could try using Geo-Filtering, so that you limit Fifa to only connect to Australian based servers (if their available). Might also be worth posting on the EA forums if havent already, as it seems there has been some similar recent reports following updates, of previously satisfied players now suffering lag on PS5:  https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Fifa-23-PS5-connection/td-p/12209290
Hope that helps - and do let us know if disabling Internet Optimiser made any difference.

Hi @MuRF, glad to hear your enjoying 3.3.57 on the Gen3.  A few versions ago we transitioned some of the feature names based on customer feedback, to try to de-jargon and simplify:

    Network Priority = QoS
    Network Rules = Traffic Controller
