What's the top of the line headset?

I currently have the Turtle Beach 500p for PS4.  They are good but not as comfortable as I would like.  In addition, I have experienced several quality issues with TB headsets in the past (i.e. breaking).  I saw a few topics on here about headsets, so it got me looking again.  After doing a bunch of research and debating with myself.  I just purchased the Sennheiser G4ME ONE and Astro Mixamp Pro TR.  Head-fi.org has good recommendation guide with this one listed.  It has great reviews, comfort, etc.  I do like the integrated unit, and I will only use it for gaming.

Had the 500P Stealth headset too and the sound was amazing, but you are right about the quality.  They are very fragile.  Had a pair and within 3 months the extender piece snapped on the right headset.  That piece is very thin plastic and fragile.  Fortunately my Gamestop manager was cool and said he had looked at them and thought they weren't made good either and replaced a set for free.   Then.....    that set broke within 2 months.   It really was a shame as the prev gen turtle beach was good to me.   Afterwards, shelled out the money for the Astro A50's and i'm completely happy with them.

Not all TB's are bad this gen though.  I do have the XOSeven's for my Xbone and they are built much sturdier and sound great.

If someone is looking for a great review on headsets, like I've said before go to head-fi.org and read MLE (mad lust envy's) write up on cans. He's got everything in there from low budget to sky's the limit can's.And he's a true audiophile,so he knows his shit.

Imho, first of all you need to find big headphones store and try to wear as many headphones as you can. Comfort is the most important thing for gaming headphones/headset. If you don't need mic most of time will be better to buy headphones not headset.

That was a big help and part of the decision process for selecting the Sennheiser Game One.

I have the TB PX5's / stealth 500P's and have just bought a brand new in the box pair of Elite 800s for £150.00 off flea bay, I have reviewed the other 2 on my blog a few months ago and will slap up a review of the 800s when I have used them for a few days.

I think at 46 spending years at the side of race tracks and as a roady for 5 years my hearing is way too shot for the really audiophile type of stuff but I do like the 500s but they are a bit delicate..

I am hoping the 800s are a bit sturdier.

for gaming there isnt much gain between a 300€ headphone and a 1000€ headphone

the gamesounds are hard-compressed files and the soundcard of the consoles aint good either, the difference in sound is minimal cause both are good enough to get the most out of the weak soundsource

if those headphones are used for other things too such as music or movies then sure, id go for them :)
