r8rs4lf Posted October 21, 2015 Share Posted October 21, 2015 Ok so I just received my R1 today and hooked it up as follows. Thanks for the fast shipping BTW! Wall>Modem/router (disabled) combo>R1>Netgear Nighthawk router Reason for this is because I need the wireless range the Nighthawk provides around my home. PS3 and PS4 both hard wired into R1 along with the Nighthawk. I put the Nighthawk in AP mode because that is what I was told to do. I followed the instructions to get an Open NAT. I've checked UpNp, UpNp forwarding and hard reset my PS3 both times with no luck. The next step was to go to Device Manager and click "view other router interface." I clicked it and it took me to my modem/router combo I have from my ISP. Thing is the router part was disabled by the tech so I can use my Nighthawk instead. So I go to my Nighthawk to check for the DMZ. Well I can't access it in WAN, I suppose because it's in AP mode. I've also unabled the GEO filter while I boot up the PS3. Any other suggestions? r8rs4lf Posted October 21, 2015 Author Share Posted October 21, 2015 So out of curiosity, I took the Nighthawk out of AP mode and found the DMZ via WAN. It was checked with a number there. Check file attached. I tried to put that number below the blue box there, but it wouldn't take it. I assume because it was checked. So I unchecked it and typed the number below the blue box in device manager as instructed and hit apply. I assume it went through, because it restarted the router. But if you look at the file attached, that's how it was after I did all that. Difference was it was unchecked, but the number I put there is not there, it's the same number as it was before when it was checked. Do I need to put my Nighthawk in AP mode if I disable the wireless in the R1? I know, a lot of question.......... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You could just totally remove the nighthawk router from the set up and just use the R1 for all your routing capabilities and leave the wifi on. In Access Point (AP) mode, the Nighthawk connects to another router through an Ethernet cable to extend the wireless signal coverage to other network clients. In this mode, the firewall, IP sharing, and NAT, and other functions are disabled. It doesn't make sense to have the R1 acting as a router and the Nighthawk acting as a router. Putting the nighthawk in AP mode disables the routing capabilities and turns it into essentially a wireless hotspot. What ISP do you have? Odds are the "tech" just turned off the wifi on your modem/router combo which is NOT putting it into bridge mode. (I don't know why but for some reason Comcast techs have no idea what bridge mode is, turning off the wifi network is their solution to disabling the internal router in these all in one modem/router combos.) This would make it so that you have a router plugged into a router plugged into another router causing your NAT issues. You can either go into the modem settings and set it to bridge mode (if it lets you) or call your ISP and have them set it to bridge mode. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

kevo Posted October 22, 2015 Share Posted October 22, 2015 i have my duma in my nighthawk dmz. i use both wifi signals as well i dont have any problems ive found a optimal setup for both and everything has worked fine me for when gaming and whenever im surfing on the net. I think for me and my internet connection the netduma is best at a secondary router not the primary but thats my setup and it works alot of the duma army have their own optimal setup that works for them hope you have fun gaming with the netduma Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's the set up I use,aside from the fact that I have a Netgear in AP mode and you get the best of both worlds...all the dumas features and wireless 5 GHz from the netgear. RADDY1993 Posted October 22, 2015 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I would have Nighthawk/Netduma and put the Duma in the DMZ of the Nighthawk then turn WIFI off on the Nighthawk and connect evrything to the Duma. Do I just follow this exactly or do I have to plug the number below the blue box in somewhere? Also, am I doing this before I put the Nighthawk in AP mode or can this be done while in AP mode? As of right now, the Nighthawk is in AP mode. I don't want to start getting too deep into things where everything goes crazy. I want to make sure I do this right. I unabled the GEO filter and restarted my PS3. BOOM!! Open NAT! So just to be clear my set up is: Wall>Modem/router (bridge mode)>R1 (wireless unabled)>Nighthawk (in AP mode) Thanks again for the help. Learning a lot about this stuff.
