So I ran Ping Test through my laptop and got different results with the 113ms Ping being the first and the 39ms ping and jitter the last. I also checked through cmd pinging 8.8.8.8 and got a 9ms ping. Duma Internet Diagnostic is right on and matches the 9ms ping.

My question is which do I believe? I will as soon as I get home later from work run the laptop through the modem directly.

My current setup is Sb6183 Modem>Netgear Switch>Netgear r6300v2 Router>Duma r1

Many thanks for your advice.

Hi Alex,

The reason for the different results is probably because they are pinging different servers and the reason the Duma and your laptop match is because they are pinging the same server. I'd believe what pinging 8.8.8.8 says as it is likely to be a server close to you and also won't be congested as it's a Google one :)

Can I ask why do you have the switch between your modem and first router?

The 8.8.8.8 test is testing a Google server which is close to you giving you good results, The Netduma is also pinging the Google server near to you which is the best test possible I feel.

In cmd you can type ping 8.8.8.8 -n 50

that will ping 50 times then give you the result you can change the number to something else, that will give you are larger sample to go from.

Testing at peak times is also a good idea.

I have the Modem and both routers connected through the switch because somehow the switch acts like a filter because of the EEE bug. The buffering and high ping spiking doesn't happen that much although last night while on Netflix:

So I had to reboot everything and was surprised this happened.

Oh I see why you are doing the switch there then , great idea.

When you had those crazy pings is the congestion control set to 70%?

Could it be the EEE bug doing it if you have the CC set up?

When you watch Netflix with the CC at 70% what do you see ping wise.

Honestly haven't tried it but I will later and post a screenshot. What do you think could happen?

The congestion control should lower local congestion (lag spikes) as long as you have entered your bandwidth in to the duma and set the sliders.

It was at 100%. I been testing it from 85% to 75% and it seems better.

When i do speed tests to TBB uk server it shows buffer bloat in the test, anything over 70% gives buffer bloat so I stick to 70

Ha! So setting the CC to 70% 70% worked. Though I see a spike here and there it is almost perfect! Thank you kindly.

What do you know about Signal Booster / Amplifier? I have seen that it helps some people and others that say it made things worse.

Anyway, thank you gents as always!

Awesome to hear that, thats why we recommend 70/70 :)

As Zennon says, not familiar with that in the UK
