UPNP Xbox Live

Recommended Posts

So what can I do to get open NAT on Xbox Live? That is necessary for party chat. I have a Netgear Nighthawk CM1200 cable modem. My internet provider is Spectrum. I'm in early access. So this latest patch released to everyone does nothing for my upnp. My NAT is either moderate or strict. I can't put my modem in bridge mode because it's not a router. Just a modem. So what can I do? I got 2 Xbox consoles. I can't port forward same port to 2 different IP Addy. Why was this designed this way? Routers in the past. I port forward whatever numbers. It covers the router. Not the R3. This is frustrating. I'm tempted to go back to my Netgear X1000. This is ridiculous. 7 months or so later. Still having issues after launch.

For R3.
Disable IPv6 for LAN and WAN.
Reboot R3.
Ensure UPnP is enabled. Also, ensure you're using the recent release firmware. 4.0.219.

It's a cable modem/router! It is therefore manageable. Did you put the R3 in the DMZ of this router? I have 2 Xboxes behind the R3 and the UPnP does the job well. One Xbox with port 3074 (auto) and the 2nd with an alternate port (manual).

You can't just port forward any port and have it work, they have to be specific. For UPnP do the above, if you want to port forward then you'd need to do 3074 for one and 3075 for the other

Can you make a video that shows this exactly.

All you need to do is:

Add Rule > Select Device > Port > Source Port 3074 > Destination Port 3074 > TCP & UDP > Save

Then do the same for the other device but enter 3075 instead.

The Netgear Nighthawk CM1200 is only a cable modem. It is not a router. Their are no options on it for bridge mode or dmz. All of that will have to be done on R3. Which so far, isn't working for me. Including steps of port forwarding.

What i had to do was make sure any (if any) extra settings on the modem arent enabled or firewall set too high. Then for the R3 settings I went to Settings > DHCP > Add Rule > Select Xbox/PS5/PC from the list > Reserve IP. Then i went into Port Forwarding > Add DMZ Device > Select Xbox/PS5/PC from list > Save. Also disable ipv6 in WAN and LAN as mentioned above. Once you have done all this reboot the R3 as well as your gaming device and then check for open nat type. It worked for me and ive been enjoying the R3 since, yes it has minor gripes here and there for me, but for what i need it to do which is Open NAT and Geo Filter my PS5 and give me the lowest latency possible while mitigating bufferbloat it has worked exceptionally well. Hope this helps you bro.

Okay. Google my Netgear Nighthawk CM1200. Download pdf for device manual. Cheek that out and give me your thoughts.

Hey @gangrel

Im familiar with your modem.. And there is nothing one can change on it because it is a pure modem only..

As a test though what happens when you connect your Xbox directly to your modem? If everything is good on your end you should receive an Open NAT that way.. If you can try this as a test and report back your findings this will help narrow down the true cause..

If you dont receive an Open NAT that way try to fully power down your Xbox by hold the power button until it completely shuts down.. Then unplug the Xbox and press the power button a few times to clear any stored cache.. Then proceed to connect again and see if your Xbox gets an Open NAT plugged directly into the modem.. If all goes well you should get an Open NAT.

Again the above is just as a test..

Thanks!

Zippy.

I finally decided to factory reset R3 running on 219 firmware. That did the trick. UPnP enabled. That's it. No DMZ or port forwarding. Thanks to all who made suggestions here.

Also if I add my gaming device on the geo filter then I go back to moderate ( even with geo fencing disabled ) I've deleted my device again and back to open

Yup. After I checked my NAT on both consoles. I went back to finish setting up R3. Yes I added both my consoles to the GeoFilter. Guess what. Couldn't find NAT or strict. I did what you just said. I removed both Xbox consoles from GeoFilter (I also wasn't using GeoFencing). Back to open NAT. Yup, that's a bug.

It's not a bug necessarily, it will be blocking the servers used to detect your NAT status - it won't be causing your NAT to become strict. If you notice the blocked server on the map please do provide the ID and we can add it to the allow list. Otherwise now you know that happens you can re-enable the filter and ignore the NAT reading.

Here are the 2 servers. I guess this is for US gamers on Xbox Live. They are in Iowa. I allowed both. Good to go. Server names are ELMO4E & ELMO4F .Screenshot_20240604_183241.thumb.jpg.defe9d726f83e9c630139612464c70a9.jpg
