No Connection/Dropping Connection After Bridging

My bad, basically what Zippy set, take it out of bridge then put the R3 in its DMZ. I believe the WAN IP of the R3 is changing frequently which may be causing it, changing to this configuration should prevent that.

Ireland is most likely an authentication server required for online play. It has been reported polygon isn't working as well as simple so we'll take a look at that.

Yeah, I noticed the R3 WAN changing IP fairly frequently.

I will attempt the DMZ at some point today and report back - thanks!

Question:

1. If the R3 is in the DMZ and CenturyLink is out of bridge, how does the R3 know to become the router for wireless/hard line instead of the CenturyLink?

2. Are all hard line connections inserted into the R3 LAN ports then? So the only thing coming out of the CenturyLink is the R3?

3. What IP do I put into the CenturyLink DMZ setting? It might auto populate while connected and I can select it - just want to be sure if not.

Didn't have any issues after reverting back to Simple. Glad Polygon is being looked at, thanks!

  1. Best thing would be to disable the CenturyLink WiFi is there is a chance devices will auto connect back to it
  2. Yes that's correct
  3. Once you take the CL out of bridge mode check back on the R3 WAN Settings page and it'll have an IP you can enter into the DMZ

  1. Okay, I know I can disable the CenturyLink WiFi - thanks
  2. Sweet
  3. Good info, thanks

Will report back once I do it - might be later today.

  1. I did a hard reset on the CenturyLink (CL) because once again I couldn't access the GUI
  2. The CL is now out of transparent bridging
  3. I connected the R3 to Port 1 on the CL and did a reboot on the R3
  4. For the R3's WAN, the IP only shows for "Public IP" (63.153.xx.xxx)
  5. On the CL, the R3 doesn't show up in the drop down as a device
  6. I tried putting in the Public IP of the R3 into the CenturyLink DMZ and I get this error: "The DMZ Host IP Address can only be set the same networks as LAN IP address."

Ahh, yes you do, change it to DHCP then reboot and try again

  1. I switched the R3 to DHCP and rebooted
  2. The CenturyLink found it as a device and I added it
  3. The R3 is now working both wirelessly and devices that are hardwired!
  4. For the moment, I am just "forgetting" the CL WiFi
  5. My PS5 (hardwired) shows an internet connection, confirmed with the platform's test option.
  6. But, CoD MW3 gives me the attached error. I've rebooted both the app and the PS5 - still get the error.

Any ideas?

Okay so if you add them back to the Geo-Filter then launch the game there is likely something blocked on the map causing it. If you click it to ping then add it to the allow list that should resolve it - you may need to do it a couple of times if they use different servers for it.

While in the pre-game lobby screen, I added both PS5s to "Devices" in the Geo-Filter. Started a game and it connected just fine, stayed within my Geo-Filter. Turned off the game, started it again, and it connected just fine.

I won't be able to test further until tonight, but this all seems very positive. Thanks so much for all of your help! Will report back ASAP.

Great to hear, thanks for the update!

Question (no rush) are there any disadvantages for keeping the CenturyLink wireless on? My thinking is this:

  1. CenturyLink Wireless for...
    1. Devices like Roku, Ring cams, phones, garage door, tablets, etc because the signal is much, much stronger (unfortunately the R3 can't reach some devices very well)
  2. Netduma R3 Wireless/Wired for...
    1. One work computer (wired), one PS5 (wired) and one PS5 (wireless)

Unless that dumb? Anything that could cause a significant issue?

Or do you suggest to kill the wireless on CenturyLink and go full-R3 (and figure out a way to boost the signal)?

Attached is a picture of how it's arranged right now.

It's better to have everything connected to the R3 but it'll probably be fine as long as those devices aren't heavily using bandwidth when you're gaming as the R3 QoS won't be able to control them. So I would say see how it is with that setup, if you're noticing issues like lag when gaming and those other devices are being used then may be worth looking into boosting the signal.

I'll keep an eye on it and adjust as needed, thanks!

Okay so after some games:

No drops in connection at all! Which is amazing!

Geo-filtering continues to respect the Simple method (radius around pin). Would love to do Polygon, but not the end of the world at all. Not a hill worth dying on.

Remaining issue: Not every time, but a majority of the time, I have to delete my wired PS5 from the list of devices in geo-filtering so the game launches. Once connected I can add the device again and geo-filtering is respected. Is there any way at all around this deleting of device 90% of the time?

Great to hear! It'll be what I mentioned before, something will be blocked on the map, adding it to your allow list should make it work all the time. If you can get us the ID of it as well we can add that to the whitelist cloud

  1. So I'm to look for a blocked server when I load up the game? A yellow triangle, correct?
  2. It should appear while the game is trying to connect, before I delete my console from Geo Filter?

Yes both correct, best not to delete the console until you've ensured you've done it and if you have then you won't need to remove it anymore

@Netduma Fraser / @Zippy

  1. Added both wired/wireless PS5 devices to the Geo-Filter
  2. Started CoD MW3, but it wasn't showing any blocked servers on the R3 app - still wouldn't connect to the game
  3. Remembered I had blocked Portarlington, Ireland (4,100 miles away) at one point and unblocked it
  4. Once I unblocked that server, I had zero issues connecting to the game. Tried several times restarting the game on both PS5s, always connected.
  5. Geo-Filter radius continues to be respected

So, I think we're good! I really appreciate the top-notch attentiveness and helpfulness, you two!

Great to hear that, thanks for the update, you're very welcome! Sounds like you blocked an authentication server!
