Smartboost failing to recognize gaming priority

Recommended Posts

Dude same here I removed gaming and tried adding Cod Series instead on activities and a few other games it works for about maybe Five minutes and then says offline even though I’m playing the dang game same if I add my console on devices not to mention steady ping barely even works this makes me wanna return the damn thing already regretting buying the R3 and ping optimizer when running a test fails and then says error and disables my Wi-Fi which I understand is normal when running a test but when it fails and the Wi-Fi goes out and have to reboot my router is irritating

Man that's unfortunate. I haven't had any issues like yours with thr wifi, and this isn't a deal breaker for me. I am able to set the congestion control which does help, but I'm hopeful they recognize the issues and find fixes for em. Netduma is still the only software like it that helps with gaming so ima stick it out. I hope things get better on your end.

  • You guys need to be more specific on the games your playing as not every game is supported you can check what games are supported by going to Smart Boost>Add>Gaming if it isn't recognized then be specific of the game and platform your using as sometimes it isn't detected on a certain platforms but for other platforms it is etc. To add the game is only going to be detected when your in a match not in a lobby waiting...
  • You can also check what being falsely activated by either going to Stat for Nerds or Network Activity>Now

Nah I’m good gonna return the damn thing my R2 did a better job than this and by the way I’m pretty sure I’m playing games that are supported MW3 and Fortnite so yes it should be prioritizing my games thanks anyways Darkness!!

Darkness, this isn't an issue of not recognizing a specific game. The software is supposed to recognize when any game is being played and prioritize that. And it doesn't explain why for me that "streaming" is highlighted when I'm playing a game instead of gaming.

Alright so I figured out something new to try bro you can definitely instead of just adding gaming as a priority just reserve bandwidth for your gaming instead I just did it right now and clicked on port for start and destination enter 65535 and when you get to the assign bandwidth part enter 20/20 for each slider then go to your congestion control settings and lower your sliders for download and upload to 50/50 or 100 down and 50 up I just played a game of Cod and dude I saw a massive change in my hit detection that literally felt extremely impossible give it a try and at the same time your console is prioritized without the hassle of having to add it under devices and always making sure it’s being prioritized the way I mentioned is more of a set it and forget it let me know if you need help setting it up the way I did it message me on here if you can

So another issue I've run into is the recognition from smart boost not seeing I'm playing a game. What's weird is the livestream priority is highlighted, but I'm not streaming, I'm gaming. Any reasons why this would be?

What game is it you're playing specifically?

@Netduma Fraser games such as Cod MW3,Apex Legends and Fortnite are failing to be recognized by smart boost I tried adding gaming and leaving it at that being the only thing prioritized and it just stays as offline even when the game is running and I’m in a match so I removed gaming and just tried adding the games itself under activities and it’s the same thing it’s frustrating makes you wanna smash your head into the wall I understand the features are fairly new and theirs still tons of work that needs to be done but it’s the principal of it all especially for it being a gaming router when features that aren’t working that are intended for gaming its a problem and before advice starts being given yes I’ve tried even just adding my gaming consoles and leaving it at that and it stays online actually but then after a couple of minutes it fails and says offline for the rest of the time I even took a chance at factory resetting my router and it’s the same thing not even worth trying anymore I just can only hope you guys investigate it further and fix it up.

What device are you playing on?

@Netduma Fraserisnt the software supposed to recognize gaming traffic regardless of what game is being played?

If we have classified the game then yes, it's impossible for it to know the game being played otherwise

ohh ok, that makes sense then. I was playing Rocket League, which isnt on the list. I did request that the game be put on the list, if not for anything but to recognize a game being played and activate my priority list, that would be very helpful. But what was activated was the livestream priority when I was playing. Why would that happen?

We'll get that added. As it's based on DPI, if the router thinks RL traffic looks like something it will then prioritize on that basis so either a misclassification by us or it shares some similar patterns but we'll get that resolved. You can always get around it by prioritizing the device instead.

@Netduma Fraser I’ll just wait and leave it alone already I’ve been going at it with this thing for a couple of hours now smart boost is not working as intended for me and it’s not prioritizing any gaming I can only hope you guys fix it soon thanks again for trying and by the way another issue which maybe I’m sure you guys are aware of is steady ping it hardly works on MW3 and apex if I try it on Fortnite it’ll work maybe once or twice but for any other game it’s a let down just wanted to bring that to your attention my friend.

Almost certain it will work if you do the above but fair enough!

@Netduma Fraser I don’t have port 3074 on my Xbox network setting I have numerous ports on their and that ain’t one of them unless theirs another way to do this maybe through the router itself if so can you give me step by step instructions on how to set this up please because I’ve never messed with anything like that when it comes down to ports or adding ports

When you go into your Xbox and look in Network settings and go to Advanced.. Towards the bottom what port are you seeing being used on your Xbox?

Thanks!

Zippy.
