R2 loses all connection periodically, requires unplug

**Edit: Posted in the wrong forum**

Hey guys so I tried using the replacement duma, but unfortunately the new duma isn't able to pick up an internet connection. I had the same issue with the old R2 and I called my ISP to fix it. We were on the phone for 4 hours unplugging everything and trying different startup methods. I tried all of them for this new one, and I still wasn't able to get an internet connection. I believe my modem might be the issue at this point and it might be blocking the connection or something. I went back to the old duma in the meantime so I can use my internet.

I still manage to restart my Internet once a day or avoid using youtube on my mobile device so that my internet doesn't cut out.

Ok I do have more information now. It just crashed about 15 minutes ago. I think there is a ‘pre-crash’ state in which opening YouTube on my phone will cause a crash. Normally, I can load Discord messages on my phone just fine. Occasionally, it will fail to load any messages. It was like that this morning. I thought about it and decided to try to load a YouTube video and it crashed the router like normal. To be clear, internet still works for most things in this pre-crash state. For example YouTube is able to load the first 30 seconds of a video like it typically does, but then it crashes.

I propose that we are looking at the wrong time in the logs. I believe sometime between 7 hours ago and now something happens to the router which leaves it in this ‘pre-crash’ state. Once it is in this state, Discord messages will fail to load and opening a YouTube video will crash it.

Ok, right now it is in that state where Discord messages are failing to load. I went to load a few YouTube videos, but it did not crash. A few videos loaded, then I went back to Discord and the messages loaded. Then I went back to YouTube, and YouTube failed to loaded the feed. I retried it, and it loaded the feed, but then the thumbnails weren't loading for a while. I just went back to Discord, and the messages aren't loading again.

I've attached the log

It crashed yesterday at about 8:25 pm, pst. I unplugged it and replugged it. Now Discord and YouTube work fine again.

Thanks for the update. The dev looking at your logs has been unwell recently but I've checked in again today so we'll get back to you when we know!

It just crashed again about 7 minutes ago. Discord wasn't working on my phone prior to it. It's possible that a webpage on my PC tried to load a video as an ad. I can't think of any other possible event that led up to the crash.

OK, thanks for the update, I'll pass that across.

It just crashed again about 2 minutes ago. I went to load another YouTube video on my phone and it crashed. I was also updating a game on my Xbox One at the time. I’m not certain about the status of Discord at the time. It really seems like the quick burst that YouTube videos do in the beginning is what causes it. It seems to never happen in the middle of a video, only after that initial burst where they buffer the first 30-60 seconds of the video.

I followed the instructions in your PM, and it has crashed twice since following those instructions. It just crashed about 10 minutes ago. I see that a new firmware has been posted on the forums, I will try installing that one soon.

Sorry to hear that, please let us know how you get on with that.

Did you factory reset again after installing the firmware? Are you still able to access the interface when this occurs and if so can you grab a log file?

Thanks for trying. You have been more than patient and I think we'd just end up going around in circles, I think the best thing to do would be to get the unit back from you and authorize a replacement for you. Please email [email protected] with a link to this topic and your order number and we'll get that sorted for you.

I do not think a replacement would fix it for him as I believe it is still a software problem that affects some people on this board.

For me it occurs when an iphone (X) tries to backup videos to the apple cloud and google cloud (my wife has it both enabled, it doesn't happen everytime, sometimes once in two weeks, the larger the files are the larger the chance for the hangup) or using youtube on an iphone (again, seems to be random).

It never occured with any other device and it certainly does not occur when the iphone is connected to the different router as it is now.

I'm getting the iphone for myself this month so I'd try to pinpoint it if I'm lucky.

Regards

@Deng reports of disconnects have reduced since the new firmware and those who get a replacement don't always get disconnects if they had it before so I think it is a bit of both really but we'll continue to investigate. If you could see if you get the issue with your new phone that would be helpful!

Hello again. Unfortunately, I have had the new router set up for about 6 days, and it has crashed three times. Everything seems to be occurring just as before, however, it seems the Discord connection issue is now gone. I haven't noticed Discord failing to load messages since I installed the replacement unit. I'm considering disconnecting my iPhones from my network for 2 weeks to see if the issue goes away.  Any other ideas?

Well it's highly unlikely you got 2 faulty units so it will be something about your setup causing it so if you could try that then that would confirm some other reports and give us a good starting point for finding the cause.
