Ethernet Socket Problem

Recommended Posts

I've just receive my third R2 after having connection issues. Early days yet, but the R2 is running with firmware .179 and has not disconnected, but it hasn't had much of a test yet.

One problem that I've noticed with all the R2s so far, is the very tight connection between ethernet plugs and sockets. In addition, the cable connecting my NAS need to be pulled back a bit, so that it is not quite clicked in, otherwise the connection is lost.

I've had problems connecting to my NAS which showed as offline and after some fiddling with the cables, found that the ports used for the NAS needed to have the plug located so that it wasn't fully locked in. This way the port was live. If the plug was clicked home, the port went dead.

Possibly this is a compatibility issue between R2 and cable regarding fitting, but it shouldn't be and all was well with the previous R2. It looks like there are some build quality/tolerance issues with these R2s.

We are aware that the ports are a bit tight, usually though they have to be pushed in until you hear the click, have not heard anything regarding what you are describing, it does sound like a potential bad port unfortunately.

Well, cable pushed in, no LAN port light. Cable pulled back, light comes on.

Have you tried a different cable? Perhaps you could achieve a more reliable connection here without having to make sure it's plugged in just right.

Do you have access to the interface when the drops occur? If so, are you seeing any entries in the logs around these times?

Sometimes, sometimes not, but it usually happens when I'm not at home to resolve it, so no logs.

Righto, is it recovering itself or do you need to manually reboot it?

Have you assigned this R2 a static IP from your ISP modem and DMZ'd the R2s WAN IP?

I don't have access to the modem interface, it's a bog standard OpenReach thing, effectively plug and play. My R2 has now completely disconnected from the internet and won't reconnect even when power cycling. I've tried a hard reset using the reset button, but it just restarted the R2. It seems quite unresponsive.

Can you access the R2s interface still or is it completely down? What lights on the front are lit/flashing?

I've just replied HERE and have exactly the same problem. I'm now on the latest firmware and I'm unable to do a factory reset because the reset button doesn't reset, it only reboots.

I've had a disconnection last night and cannot confirm if this isn't because I need a factory reset after upgrade to .205

OK, I've replied in one of the other threads but it's probably easier if we keep it here.

Could you just confirm how you're performing the reset? You mentioned in another thread you're pressing the reset button, but it needs to be held for at least 30 seconds?
