XR500 VS Netduma R2

Let us know how you get on! That's interesting, do monitor that and get back to us if it becomes a regular occurance.

I had this issue when I last used the thing, but when the PS4/5 starts downloading an update for a game the whole internet goes down. What do I need to set in QOS to stop this? I cannot even access the Duma to change any settings when the downloads are underway, I need to either wait or pause before anything happens, it laterally uses every part of the bandwidth.

Just using QoS generally should prevent that occurring, Congestion Control on Always 70/70 should do the trick

Just done that and its killed my network. My PS5 was downloading an update so now I can't get on my Duma anymore and no device can get on the internet, I'm sure this is what made me throw the thing out last time :(

Managed to delete the update, normality resumes. THEN the wife turns on the Sky Q mini box and that kills the internet again, surely this isn't just me affected by these issues? The QOS seems...broken

That doesn't really make sense, it's supposed to help in that very situation, I haven't seen anyone else with issues like this that I can recall. What is the model of the modem/router the R1 is connected to? Are ALL devices connected to the R1? Are you using PPPoE or anything like that for a connection?

That is what I thought. I have TP Link VDSL router. All devices are connected to the R1. Yes using PPPoE which I was told 3.0 was optimised for?

How is the TP setup - is it in bridge mode? PPPoE could potentially be it, it might not be working well with QoS. If you could have the TP handle PPPoE with the R1 in the DMZ then I think that would work better

Yeah it's in bridge mode. So setup the router like normal fibre connection and stick 192.168.2.1 in the DMZ and plug everything into the R1?

I’ve done it. The R1 showed up in the client list vis dhcp on tplink so I reserved the IP and put it in the dmz.

ill try qos again but I can see already the loading circle and then the “operation is taking longer than expected. Please briefly wait before using this rapp” - it’s just too cumbersome which I’m gutted about as I really want to use it.

Yep that's right you've got it. It is a very old router so it is possible it's just degraded over time but give it a reboot - remember to remove PPPoE details from the R1 if you haven't already and then see how you get on with QoS.

Cheers. It's pretty useless to me without the applets though, not sure I'm willing to risk spending £150 on the R2 for the same issues. Thanks for the help all the same

It happens a lot less on the R2, we've also spent many months determining why it happens and a fix for that will be in the next firmware so maybe wait a little bit until that is out and reassess whether you want to purchase

Cheers. Will that firmware be available for the R1 too?

There will be another firmware coming for the R1, as to whether the issue they found on the R2 translates to the R1 as well I'm not sure on yet but I imagine as it is a firmware issue that it should help on all the other platforms as well.

@Netduma Fraser

As promised, I really hope this can be fed back to your engineering team. As you can see it's completely unusable, I suspect it cannot cope with the amount of devices on my network, and I'm not sure if the R2 will be any different so until I have reassurances I won't be buying another one, which is really frustrating as I loved this in its prime, it used to work great with all the devices on my network and then 2.0 firmware just killed it.

Thanks for posting this, I don't believe it can be caused by having too many clients connected but we are working on porting a hotfix for this issue over to the R1, so that should resolve these problems for you.

Thanks. When I first started using it again yesterday most of the applets were accessible, slow but I could get to most of them, now nothing. I look forward to the hotfix, where can I keep an eye on this release? Which section? Thanks

You can either check the R1 Support forum, or eventually we'll also put it on our Latest Firmwares page once it's full release.

Guys, whats the diff between the xr500 and r2? I got both, havent used the xr500 in a while. I know its more powerful, stronger wifi (which i need). As far as duma os settings, what does the r2 have that the xr500 doesnt?

The R2 gets features first so for example it has Data History and fully functioning mobile app which the 500 doesn't

Question, Will you have a R3 netduma soon with Wifi6 and really affordable price? like around less than $100?

That's the dream that will kill all the competitors.

That won't happen, we would probably lose money if we did that, R3 will come at some point but I couldn't say when - we're focused on software at the moment.
