Infinite Timeouts with Mullvad VPN (can't connect via HybridVPN)

Using the following config data (and regardless of what I seem to try) dumaOS on an R1 seems to endlessly loop a mullvad connection with a ping-restart, never properly connecting to the VPN:

Which just endlessly loops. No variations of the config file that I've tried seem to work. I've also tried multiple servers as well to no avail. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong? 😕

  • throwaway2561 changed the title to Infinite Timeouts with Mullvad VPN (can't connect via HybridVPN)

Thank you :)

The servers I'm looking to connect to are anything in or around New York. I believe the IP in my original config example above is not a New York server, but I've tried the NY ones straight from Mullvad's config file generator with seemingly the same result :/

I tried that code but unfortunately have the same result :( The only difference is that the lines "TLS" and "WARNING" no longer show, so it still times out and loops indefinitely but now the error looks like this:

This user had a similar issue and was able to raise a ticket with mullvad who provided them with an adjust script to use, have a read through and try the same and see if they can give you one that works:

We noticed something interesting about the VPN log after contacting Mullvad:

Hi,

In the link you sent I saw this:

OpenVPN 2.4.3 mips-openwrt-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [EPOLL] [MH]
[IPv6] built on Nov 4 2018

However in your log it says:

OpenVPN 2.3.4 mips-openwrt-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [EPOLL] [MH]
[IPv6] built on Nov  4 2018

Can you upgrade the firmware so you get OpenVPN version 2.4.3 too? Our
servers do not support version 2.3.4 since a couple of months ago.

Best regards

It appears the Netduma R1 DumaOS version of OpenVPN reverted after a reboot?

Although the build dates are the same. Not sure what is going on.

These VPN providers appear to be dropping support for the older versions of OpenVPN. It's my understanding the latest version is 2.4.9; Is there any way we could get an update to a more recent version of OpenVPN? (Or is there a beta firmware I can test that might have a later revision?) Thanks in advance.
