Missing the features of a fine-tuned stateful inspection firewall, but obviously really like some of the easy-QoS and other services of DumaOS... cause I don't feel like doing IT on my own stuff when I work with it all day! I work from home primarily so am connected near 24/7, and at least once per day the WIFI drops out on the XR500, the router IP becomes unpingable, the SSID disappears, etc.; so nothing WAN related (unless a DOS attack, which the XR500 claims to protect against)? I do not need to reboot any device for the SSID to come back up, just takes 30-60s. Here are some scrubbed logs, which do mention a DOS attack; though in my experience at over 40+ locations around the US, never once have I dealt with a successful DOS attack, so I'd be surprised if that is consistently happening here. Would like to figure this out within next 2 weeks so I can return to Amazon if need be. On latest FW. Thanks! Does it occur the same time everyday? Do you have some times where it has happened so I can match it up with the logs at all? I was recently upgraded to Gigabit WAN and the first couple of times it happened I just soft-assumed it was the new WAN link, until I did a little due diligence; at that point, I wrote a message here on the forum instead. Next time it happens I will both re-collect logs, log the timestamp and check the wired connection as well. Not using Smart Connect. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 26, 2020 Administrators Share Posted January 26, 2020 Did you reboot after the disconnection as the closest timestamp to what you said was the internet re-establishing itself so can't see when it disconnected unfortunately. It could be related to the DHCP Lease, could you set some static/reserved IP addresses for some devices please and see if it happens next time if these devices sustain a connection? The connection to the SSID apparently held but it stated it couldn't communicate with router (it is an XBONEX, so pretty limited on what I can check/test); anything without reservation completely lost connection to the AP. I would recommend setting reserved IPs from the router instead of setting static IPs on each device. The router will automatically give the device the IP you assigned it, and you won't need to specify an IP on the device itself. Giving devices a reserved IP on your network guarantees that they'll be able to connect, because they will always have a space in the DHCP pool. However, they will reserve that space even when they're not connected, so you're eating into the IP addresses that can be assigned to new devices. Still, this probably won't affect you unless you have 240 or more devices to connect at once. While I obviously cannot from a WIFI enabled device if the AP radio is dropping out, I could not from a wired device either. Thus this has nothing to do with what's beyond the X500. This isn't "the Internet is dropping out" this is that the entire broadcaset of the SSID drops out and I lose complete LAN connectivity to all devices. I'm sending this back to Amazon next week unless we get somewhere, but I don't see us making much progress here. If you are unable to troubleshoot via a different method (like having the ability for me to produce better logs) then I think we're at the end of the road here. Thanks anyways. Rick Froetsch Posted January 31, 2020 Author Share Posted January 31, 2020 The issue hasn't happened while gaming, thankfully, it happens during the day as I'm doing work from my home office. I know it happens because my WWAN connection completely drops, the SSID disappears, sick children suddenly shout there's "no internet" on their Smart TV, etc. Yesterday was the first time it happened more than twice in a day, and it happened nearly a dozen times; was extremely frustrating. I did have the capture started before the drop, but after the drop when I went back in, the capture was gone; I believe this happens because the entire router reboots whenever it drops out. I'm going to chalk it up, once, to a hardware issue and put an RMA in with Amazon. If the next one performs the same, I'll unfortunately fully return and look elsewhere. Seems this is a pretty dang common problem though, looking around the forums here and at Netgear, and with FW patches being nill, not something that ever gets resolved. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't be against trying out the 3.0 beta FW as well, to see if that patches any outstanding code issues. I have 15+ years of network, sysadmin and CIO experience, so I'll be able to isolate any beta issues and pass on feedback rather quickly, especially since I'm behind this router near 24/7 putting in 12-15 hour days. So as far as the capture, how do you want me to go about this. Will capturing for a minute and then saving/sending fulfill anything for you? I had a look through all the debug logs other than the panic one, and they are mostly system state info, so not sure overall how helpful they'll be, but perhaps your devs will notice something, if the logs are acceptable when not capturing the event. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 4, 2020 Administrators Share Posted February 4, 2020 If you use a USB with the router and set it to save to that then it will be recoverable after the reboot, if you can provide this before the RMA that would be useful but don't worry if you can't as this is something we are aware of already and so will hopefully be fixed in DumaOS 3.0. I think an exchange is probably the best idea, it's easy to forget on a support forum but out of how many people have the router compared to those experiencing these kinds of issues it's not as prevalent as it seems but it is something that needs to be fixed.
