Blameless
Why is it that whenever I ping a server...on the Geo filter shows another server!! For example...the server that i pinging is on north of California i believe is in San Francisco...when I ping that one ...the Geo filter shows a server in sandiego? Administrators Netduma Admin Posted August 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted August 18, 2018 Do you mean a new server appears on the map while you are pinging? This is normal at the start of a game as the game determines which server to place everyone on.
Blameless
Yeah ...basically I'm pinging a server differently then the one that is showing on the map? Doesnt make any sense at all! ...I though that if I ping a server I would connect to that server?
Administrators Netduma Admin Posted August 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted August 18, 2018 It depends on the game. But often when everyone is connecting to a lobby the game will decide between several servers by pinging from the servers to each player. This is probably what you are seeing. If you want an easier time, it’s worth just enabling auto-Ping and lettingthe router determine when the server is definitely hosting and pinging for you. Blameless
So basically the game is hosting the lobby from the server that I'm not connected too? What's the point to ping a server but....the game decides to host the lobby from a different server? I'm playing ww2!! So If the game is giving me a bad server ....and I decide to ping a server that I want to play on...the game still gives me that bad server connection? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 19, 2018 Administrators Share Posted August 19, 2018 Clicking on a server to ping doesn't make you connect to it, all it does is ping. If you want a different server then you need to change your home location/radius to get on.
Blameless
So the whole purpose of pinging a server is to see how good is the connection and not to connect to it? And if I want to connect to it I have to move my home location? For example if I want to connect to a server that I really want before joining a game I ping the server & the game decides another server what's the whole point of pinging to my favorite server if it's not going to let me play on that server? Sorry for asking to many questions!!!
Blameless
Now if your telling to change my location to connect to that server that I want to play on that's how it supposed to work? Then you guys should make a video showing us how this works!! Also before I start a game I ping a server & it's not showing on the map...is this how it is? It only shows to the one I'm connecting too!
Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted August 20, 2018 Netduma Staff Share Posted August 20, 2018 Basically, if you imagine you don't have your XR500 and you go to join a game, the game will connect you to any server it chooses. It will connect you based on its own rules and parameters, and you will have no control over where you are connected. The XR500 gives you control, but you still need to allow the game to have some control. For instance, if you clicked your favourite server and just tried to force the game to connect you to it, that might not be possible. The server might be full, or it might not be available to you. The game would stop you from being that specific. You can take control by setting a range - the Geo-Filter radius. This allows the game to connect you to a server, but the game is restricted - it can only connect you within the radius you have set. This allows you to get the best connections possible and secure a nice local host, whilst the game still has plenty of servers to choose from so isn't forced to disconnect you or boot you from the lobby. You can force a single server (your favourite server) by making the radius really small and placing it on top of the server you want. That restricts the game to only that server, but since the game has no freedom any more you will get disconnected a lot when you try to connect. That's because if that single server is full or unavailable, you won't be able to connect. That's why we recommend a radius of maybe 1000km around your location, which will give you really great hosts and a great experience too. I hope this helps with your understanding!
