FIFA 18 issues and the XR500 cloud

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So, after a long time and so many issues with FIFA I found a router that works perfect with everything else, but FIFA 18.

I have done all the required tests (using UOTrace from EA website) and I can definitely say the XR500 helps with bufferbloat and LAG. But, as mentioned earlier, doesn't work with FIFA 18.

However, I am a bit confused about the cloud and I would like some clarification about how FIFA 18 works in conjunction with the router.

After purchasing the router I have always monitored who I was playing against and I made efforts not to play on latency higher than 30-40ms. In theory, the game should be P2P in FUT modes such as Divisions and Draft. And it should be server based on Weekend League and the DKT.

For the past 6-8 weeks I have been playing Division 1 and Drafts on a server in Dublin: eadpgs-ccpr0019.ea.com. It doesn't matter if I filter or spectate in Geo-Location. Which, from what EA says, it is impossible.

Now, my question is: Is the game throwing me on the server? Is it my ISP or is it the XR500? If the router shows me on the server while playing the match does it mean I am playing on the server or am I just connected to the server for "results syncing"?

Any kind of help will be much appreciated!

What do you mean by it doesn't work with FIFA?

It's hard to say for certain what that server is, do you have the ID for it? What do you mean it's impossible?

If the only icon appearing on the map is that server then that is the one you are playing on. If the only icon has a circle around it that means it's whitelisted and is used for other things rather than the actual game server.

1. I still get lag in FIFA even though my UOTraces show max 20 - 25 ms on the hops within Europe (or the ping towards servers for WL is between 20-40 ms, still very laggy).

2. So, they say it is impossible to play Division 1 on a server, because that mode is P2P. I've just picked up another one: 859f6b363c249499 - eadpgs-ccpr0020.ea.com. This happens on the Xbox. I remembered that I have been placed on the server only since I got promoted to DIV 1 (for about 6-8 weeks). All my matches outside Div 1 were on P2P. Moreover, I played on the PS4 this evening so I can test if I was having issues with my connection (I was booted out of the game several times on Xbox) and I am in Div 2 and the match was P2P.

3. The icon is a white rectangle. Please see the attached picture (Xbox)!

Thanks for the quick reply!

It sounds like the Geo-Filter is doing its job if its getting you a game with that low ping so is most likely the server itself thats the issue.

Thats definitely an EA server, it may be that at a high level there are less players in that category as so less players are available within your region thereby getting players further away. Perhaps in an effort to ensure games are still able to be played at that level they allow each player to connect to a server if they are unable to connect to each other (because in this case you've blocked them). Though that still gives you the advantage as the server is very close to you.

It happens even when the Geo-Filter is off, so I haven't blocked anyone. If this happens with the Geo-filter off, does it mean it is the game connecting me to the server to play the match? Yes, it should give me an advantage that I am closer to the server, but it doesn't, as I experience lag and my opponents don't.

With Fifa you'll always be connected to an EA dedicated server, and unfortunately I've seen nothing but bad things about them. Usually even when Fifa is tested without the Geo-Filter there's issues; I've read several articles since Fifa 18 came out about their terrible lag compensation programming. The issue is the EA server itself not properly accounting for the latency of each player, making it very difficult to get decent gameplay even when your ping is great. (I wish I could be more positive about what I've seen about Fifa, but I can't!)

Hello Jack, Ive been dealing with the same issue. Even with 25-50ms ping it will feel like 150ms or more. Do you know if DMZ enabled on the console will help in anyway? Thanks

Unlikely, it will just ensure you have an open NAT and if you have that already it won't make a difference. Suggest forcing the Geo-Filter to get different servers/players to see if it plays any better.

Ok thank you!

We didn't alter the Cloud for FIFA so this is very likely to be on the game side. Which mode are you playing? If you switch the Geo-Filter off / to Spectating Mode, do you find games?
