Duma OS

Ok, it's now a week until the Duma OS drops as a "freebie" into our laps.

What are your expectations for the system and what are you hoping it will "fix"!

Personally I haven't read or followed any of the threads about it, other than to say the GUI looks more sleek and use friendly.

So gives us your thoughts and aspirations for Duma0S.........

I'm on the XR500 right now.

Let me be clear: the DUMA OS is the most amazing experience in multiplayer i've got since i've connected my console on Internet.

Yes the hardware is different but i can bet that you won't be disappointed.

I haven't been getting any good gameplay with cod ww2 & bo3 with the r1 lately, but it could just be the cod servers aren't doing so well either. I'm getting bad lag comp. over here ffs.

I'm hoping it will make my gameplay more enjoyable with the new os, if not, I'm going to get the xr500 and that'll be it. If that doesn't work, I'm fucked forever damn it. Might have to move somewhere close enough so the server is in my backyard with google fiber because game is life fam

Mhhh to make it short. I expect better PC/games support, better handling of highspeed lines (400/25) in combination with a better DPI which also supports high bandwith speeds.

Maybe more performance through hardware accelerated optimisations implemented in DumaOS. Moreover no GUI bugs and better handling of hyperlane feature. Ability to see prioritized packets and to have better handling over games for PC.

Better network overview/insight monitoring. And better profile handling.

Working timezones and proper network time syncronisation.

And high anticipated and patent pending anti-jitter feature. Long time heard nothing about it anymore. Yeah there are more things probably but that are my favourite ones.

I would like internet scheduling to keep my kids in check on gaming. Would like better client management. Would like more stable throughput. Network monitoring. Network control. Would like vlans. Lease timeouts. Parental control.

I'm hoping it'll less us use port forwarding and the geofilter without the GUI taking 10 minutes to load a page. Not good for tweaking at all :D

Also I hope it comes out with ping assist considering that's arguably more important than using a radius. No point drawing a circle around just my country if a game ends up giving host to Timmy Lag Thumbs 20 miles down the road on WiFi lol

Also hoping to see QoS that doesn't have downsides. Preemptive chops off more than you want, and reactive (especially when combined with low sliders and no share excess) seems to cause packet loss.

Failing all of that, I just hope it changes things in CoD games for me. I don't remember the last time low (under half a frame) ping gameplay actually felt responsive unless the entire lobby average latency was say 30ms or under. Which leads me on to an idea for devs to chew over...

Could we perhaps eventually see a further matchmaking/geofilter option that lets us search for games while taking peer ping into consideration? For example we'd search for a game using distance or ping assist, then the Duma would quickly ping everyone in the lobby and filter out games with players over a certain limit or discard those over a certain average? In its current state peer ping doesn't really work fast enough to be useful, as you'll have to have spawned in and started playing before it kicks in. The R1 is super fast when it comes to auto pinging the host or server, but that doesn't mean much if some skipping spongebob 4000 miles away is in the lobby. One of the biggest complaints (although the R1 DOES do as it says on the tin, don't get me wrong) is that we simply can't control who connects to our lobbies. In a way this would help alleviate the problems that can arise from that, and be as close to a solution as possible. It's obvious why the geofilter can't stop us from playing alongside high latency players, but this workaround for want of a better term would make the geofilter infinitely more useful in the CoD titles of today where we play on servers 99% of the time. Not sure if that's something that could possibly be implemented but I doubt anything is truly impossible for Iain and co... you wizards LOL

Last but not least is not a wish, but simply a question for the Netduma team or those who already have the XR500. Does DumaOS support baby jumbo frames aka RFC 4638? I don't see why it shouldn't considering the R1 clearly handles 1500 MTU for cable and FTTP users, but I'm using a HG612 3B Openreach modem on BT Infinity and I know this modem supports baby jumbos, but I can't use 1500 MTU or ping out with an unfragmented 1472 byte payload. I've tried setting the R1 modem to 1500 and even 1508 (to cover the 8 bytes that eat into the original 1500 for PPPoE) but no bueno - I'm still stuck with 1492. It's not the end of the world but I just wanted to try 1500 MTU, and I've read another BT Infinity R1 user say he can use 1500 MTU on the R1 with both the ECI B-Focus and Huawei HG612 modems. Surely I shouldn't need a router flashed with custom firmware in between the modem and R1 to force this to occur? That wouldn't make much sense considering all of the necessary components (a modem and ISP that support RFC 4638, and a router that can be manually set to 1500 MTU) are already in place. Thanks in advance to anyone who can clear up this confusion in my poor foggy noggin ;)
