DNS HELP

Recommended Posts

I use open dns or open nic that are fast.

I have noticed some times I feel laggy when I request a Web page.

I have to waggle the congestion sliders to 100% then back to 70% to get fast site resolving.

It's not a major issue but it happens a lot

Don't think that would be a DNS issue. Try the Google ones though. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.7.7 :)

Yeah, sorry, I meant the pictures, not the sites but it doesn't matter. By default it would have been the DNS servers provided by your ISP. Could it be a problem with those? And did those Google DNS servers work? :)

Yeah crossy I never use isp dns they block to many site's

I don't use Google as I do not trust them as they log and send adverts based on your browsing habits. Dodgy in my books.

I use start page as my search engine. It uses Google with out the probing of your browser. :)

Found this thread, try it out:

"It seems like you are having DNS problems. First thing I would do is try clearing your DNS cache:

ipconfig /flushdns

If that does not help, then try changing your DNS servers temporarily to Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) just to make sure that the DNS server that you are using is not having problems. To do this on windows 7:

  1. Open Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Click "Change Adapter Settings".
  3. Find Network Connection that is used to connect to internet (either "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Connection"), right-click on it and click Properties.
  4. Now in new windows select "Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click Properties button.
  5. In the new window click the checkbox for "Use the following DNS server addresses:"
  6. Type in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  7. Click Ok and close the rest of the windows.

After this is done, check your internet connection and if you can open pages."

That sucks.

Sounds like maybe it's from an ad-block program or virus protection software.

Maybe try booting into safe mode with networking and see if the problems go away.

I hate dealing with these problems. I feel your pain.

Good luck.

I know it is the NETDUMA because i can access all the sites on my HH. I can access all the sites without making a Static IP on my NETDUMA for its self(WAN IP) and when i create one, whilst fixing the problem of the router loosing connection every 12 hours it also causes me not to access websites i want to view.

Your router is leasing the ip for 12 hours then changing so the wan ip from the duma in the dmz does not match.

It's your router in the set up that is the problem not the duma

SamC its hard to communicate tone, so please understand I'm not being defensive here just stating facts. Its with nearly 100% certainty not the Netduma, we have many people using it on the HH5. I would highly suggest NOT changing anything in the "Settings > " section of the Netduma router unless you fully understand networking. None of the things there will give you an edge in lag and furthermore in most scenarios they provide no extra benefit at all. There are there for esoteric use-cases.

I personally think the simplest solution would be to factory reset the Netduma. Remember this changes the wifi password to "netdumar1" and finally is it possible to factory reset a HH? Because I think there must be some settings in there messing it up.

Then start again but don't change anything in settings section. You'll find your NAT is probably closed, lets address that once you've got it back to a fresh state. Fixing the NAT will be simple and then it should just work from then onwards.

Ok to fix that make sure on the homehub you have NO port forwarding rules. Then put in the DMZ the netduma. Your NAT will be open if you do all of that and the Geo-Filter is disabled. As always make sure you reboot the console after doing big changes like this.
