ISP problem

Recommended Posts

I recently moved home and changed ISP,I've set up my network and tested my Internet speeds everything is ok,my netduma diagnostics test is all exceptional results except my ping which is only GOOD but i expected it,and want it to also be exceptional as i am noticing the difference when im gaming.

Im not happy with it and keep telling my ISP about the problem, they say they are investigating it and keep telling me to provide speed tests which i do but nothings improving. What should i do?

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated thanks.

Well firstly make sure you check everything to ensure you get full speeds:

Preemptive Algorithm
100% anti-flood
Share excess enabled
Reset device prioritisation & apply
Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
Disable deep packet in misc
Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds.
Do a wired speed test from a PC

Your upload is fine, gaming does not require much bandwidth.

I would use PingPlotter and ping a website like Twitter.com or BBC.co.uk for example over different times/days and see if you still see the issue. Then you could take that to your ISP. Would be worth doing it without the R1 connected also as they will likely blame that first.

Run a speed test direct from the ISP hub / modem. This will show you what your maximum speeds are.

But these speeds may change throughout the day depending on how busy the ISPs network is.

If you get the same speeds through the ISP hub / modem as you do with the Netduma then you know that it is nothing to do with your Netduma's settings.

Your ping and bandwidth (speeds) are unrelated, the speed tests that you are running will have no bearing on the ping.

A good ping in the duma diags is anything under 15ms mine is 16ms so I get good also, I am more than happy with 16ms to the Google server.

Ping is your true speed how many ms it takes to send and receive a packet the width it travels in has no affect on the ping.

ISP's can not guarantee speeds, line length to cab, home wiring.

The speeds you have are fine for gaming, only worry if you have jitter.
