Custom game lag on IW

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I know this is most likely an IW issue, not a netduma issue, but I thought I would see if anyone has any suggestions to optimise.

I've been experiencing much worse connections in all forms of custom game, even and sometimes especially when I am the host. It's not lag in a traditional sense, but rather a lack of hit detection and a serious delay in what's happening on my screen to there's. But how can this be when I AM THE HOST?!

Like I said, I'm sure this is just a netcode issue from there side, but I don't see that being resolved anytime soon, so i was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues and then overcome them?

If it's custom game and you're the host I would first look to see if you have enough upload to be hosting. I would then enable peer ping and see what you're pinging to each player. May be a specific player with a big ping. Also ensure you're using congestion control so there is no local congestion on your end. Also put your console in hyper traffic.

It was shocking yesterday, then the servers fell over completely.

Only managed a handful of 'normal' games yesterday evening.

We were OK here on the US side of the pond last night. I played COD IW for a couple of hours after work and was averaging about 23 ms ping. I was even the host for a while and it was glorious! I felt like Neo in the Matrix movies.

A few days ago though, I was getting pings in COD IW about double what I normally see (~50 ms ping). Maybe Activision is performing server maintenance?

Depends what time you were playing too. The servers went down about 11pm GMT, I think.

Haven't had a chance to play today but I assume they're back up now anyway.

Yeh. My upload is terrible, about 2mb and unfortunately there's not a lot I can do about it! Location sucks. The weird thing is that I always had the best host for my team in previous cod titles, more due to stability and reliability than super quick speeds. But it always worked. Not now!

I use congestion control and have added my Xbox to the hyper traffic function.

It has been a little too consistent terrible playing different people for it to be just pinging bad to one person I think!

Guess I'll just have to accept I can't host or I'll do terribly in this game.

Being Call of Duty and all, conditions might improve or decrease randomly; you might find you're able to host after an update. Still, if a player is over 60ms, that player could be the culprit - it doesn't necessarily have to be you causing the problem even though you're hosting. Given that you had a good connection in previous CoD titles though, it's fair to say it's probably not your end causing issues. What sort of experience do you have when someone else hosts?

And Happy Holidays :)

I tend to do better on the other teams host to be honest! One of my team mates lives about 500m away from me and his tends to be bad for me as well. But our other team mate who lives about 3 hours away is the best! Both their speeds are very high. Not sure about congestion on their lines though.

Yeah, I get the feeling that it's just this game and whatever netcode it is using. Terrible update rates and lag comp, maybe?

I'm just letting the other team keep host in general for now. Was just wondering if there were any tweaks I could make.

Happy holidays :-)
