MWR Ping Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm having some issues on MWR where I am seeing a lot of ping spikes.  I'm seeing another issue (that might be related) where the ping graph goes insane and stays up around 1s.  I have my netduma connected to another router with the other router connected to my modem.  I have 300 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up through comcast.  I don't see this issue when playing Infinite Warfare.

I'm noticing in MWR that I will shoot someone standing still with a sniper 3 times with not even a hit marker intermittenly and then they will kill me.  When I glance at my ping graph I typically see a ping spike up around 150 ms and then it goes back down to 30 - 40 ms.

I AM port forwarding to get an open NAT and I have tried turning Upnp on and off.  I have tried using hyper and not as well.  I have also attached an image of my miscellaneous settings.  Sometimes when I get the massive ping issue my GUI also slows down to unusable speeds.

Is anyone else seeing this or have a solution?

Thanks,

Nick

I doubt this matters much but under Miscellanous with the download speeds you have...You are supposed to enable super turbo mode.  Double check that by going through the optimize guide from netduma.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Firstly I would say that having the setup of modem > router > R1 means that you may have a double NAT issue. You also will not be able to make use of the congestion control so you're just using it for the Geo-filter with this setup.

I would recommend using Chrome/Firefox, does that resolve the graphical ping issue?

Hi Fraser,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm aware of the negatives of the setup I have.  I have the netduma in the DMZ of my other router so I have no NAT issues.  I use chrome when viewing the netduma interface and still see the issues described above.

I have been looking into the issue I mentioned where I see a quick spike (up to around 150 ms) and I believe this is an issue with my ISP and not the netduma or other router (Asus rt-n66u).

In that case I would recommend running a program called PingPlotter when directly connected to your modem over different times/days and see if there appears to be spikes/jitter occurring.

https://www.pingplotter.com/download/

Type twitter.com into the target and let it plot for a good while then post back with the results.

Test during the day and during the evening at peak time so we can judge if you have ISP jitter/congestion.

Also we need the make and model of your modem/router as there is a bug with the puma CPU in docsis 3 modems that creates jitter.

Sorry I didn't see the replies until now (must not have my notifications setup correctly). I tried pingplotter a couple of days ago and verified it was the modem or ISP. Finally found this article (https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31079834-ALL-SB6190-is-a-terrible-modem-Intel-Puma-6-MaxLinear-mistake)

I was using the SB6190 so I went out and bought a SB6183 that night and the ping spikes are gone. I will update this thread if I see the other issues again.

Thanks for all your help!

Interesting, glad you got that sorted out, we'll keep a note of the SB6190, seems rather dodgy. Feel free to post again if you've got any more problems :)

Go to the host filtering page let it populate as you say it might take a while, un-tick the geo filter then refresh the page..... has the problem stopped?

Re-tick and the speed of the pages should be fixed.

This fixes the issue, thanks!
