bagsta69
I usually power up the modem and wait till I get the lights telling me it has a connection then fire up the R1. Usually takes about 20 seconds for each
ColonicBoom
Best to give it a good couple of minutes before you power up the next device in the chain.

Slipknot31286sic6
I think it's every modem is different. Had problems when I upgraded my tp link modem. Thought the router was broke or had issues talking. Seems router to me is slow to talk to modems. Never had that issue with other routers. Better to wait a couple minutes before plugging in router to new modem.
bagsta69
If it's only a couple of minutes for sure if it makes ya feel better. I did a pingplotter test yesterday, showed a few spikes etc to Twitter Google and the BBC, rebooted from misc settings and all went back to a pretty much flat line, been about 2 weeks since last reboot, Maybe worth doing it once a week. Slipknot31286sic6
Yea I had a issue last week where congestion wasn't working at all. Was pushing 100%. Even tho 70/70. Reboot fixed it. Should always reboot modem / router once a week. Helps clear cache I think. Good to think someone else feels same way. Hope you get your setup working. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 12, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 12, 2016 As others have said, would wait for the modem to show it's got internet then plug the R1 in.

Although with NetDuma for me at least even with cookies enabled when R1 router is rebooted all the settings are changed.

If you're rebooting via miscellaneous settings it should save settings not change them. If you unplug it to reboot that could cause settings to change.
