HDMI 2, PS4 PRO, Elgato problem

OK yall, So I have a PS4 Pro which uses HDMI 2 cables to send information to my 4K 2160p / 60 TV.

This was all working fine kicking out some seriously great images.

Now when I introduce the Elgato HD60 capture device into the mix running HDMI 2 cables to monitor and on the pass through to tv the resolution drops to 1080P as this is all the Elgato is capable of recording at.

So, I figured that if I could buy a HDMI splitter I could send a 2160P image straight to my TV and have the other signal go through the Elgato at 1080p.

However, I have been searching for over an hour now on the interweb trying to find a splitter that is HDMI 2 compliant but they all appear to be HDMI 1.4.

Would a 1.4 compliant splitter work or should I really continue my search for a HDMI 2 compliant splitter?

Also if anybody knows where I can get my hands on one please feel free to let me know. Cheers.

AH, "Works with all HDMI 1.3 and 1.4: Supports 3D andLPCM,Dolby-AC3, DTS7.1, DSD/Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD master audio, Essentially all available audio options are supported "

HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 I think Im going to need HDMI 2 which is where my problem has been. Found loads supporting 1.4 but none that support HDMI 2

  • 1 input (1 Source) to 2 Output ( 2 Display) Supports HDMI 2.0 with EDID

It would appear I am out of luck,

The PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro) was released on November 10, 2016.
The PS4 Pro offers output at up to 4K resolutions (3840 x 2160).
The
PS4 Pro also offers HDR color output as an option.

Elgato Gaming Devices Can't Use 4K Video or HDR Colors

Elgato Gaming devices cannot passthrough, capture or stream 4K or HDR video.
Thus, if you want to use the
PlayStation 4 Pro with an Elgato Gaming device, you must set it to output 1080p or less, with HDR turned off.
You should also turn off
HDCP.

All the devices I have looked at that split the signal do so at the lowest rated device. So they do not split the signal and send one at 1080p to the elgato and the other 3840x2160 to the tv. They both are split at 1080p.

Late to the party but I was going to say I saw a tweet awhile back about the lack of support for 4K on recording capture and it wasn't just for ElGato.

Bagsta is just too far on the bleeding edge - you trend setter you.   :ph34r:

I have a few questions gone out to a few suppliers to see if there devices are capable of doing this using EDID, I will update as soon as I know.

The only other way I can think of doing it is to install a downscaler. https://sewelldirect.com/hdmi-to-hdmi-4kx2k-scaler-converter-

you need a magewell Pro capture 4K plus to do that..  http://www.magewell.com/pro-capture-hdmi-4k-plusand a PC to capture at 4K

or this 70$ 4K to 1080p downscaler to insert between the hdmi splitter  and the elgato

A splitter won't work in this scenario, the el gato cannot read anything above a 1080p image.  So if you split the 4k image it will just be showing a black screen for the el gato.

this is the same for all capture devices (they need the image coming in to be the same as what they support).

I'm sure a blackmagic card exists that can do 4k but it will cost $3000 ;)  It will take time for capture card support of 4k

Hence the downscaler after the splitter to downscale the image to 1080p before it goes to the Elgato, I'm pretty sure it would work.

Still expensive though.

i think you missed my post.

you can do it for less than 1k$ in 4K or for 70$ if you only need to capture a downscaled 1080p of your 4K games while still playing ta 4K.

correct, a downscaler would be required.  the linked one only does:

  • Input resolutions: 480i to 4Kx2K@30Hz

the PS4 Pro does 4Kx2K@60Hz

so i'm sure there is another device and you are correct, a splitter to a downscaler to the cap card and the other end of the splitter to the tv would work.

                                              ---->Downscaler-------->Capture Card

PS4 Pro ---->HDMI Splitter---|

                                              ---->TV (4Kx2K@60Hz)
