Preemptive slow my speed.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

If i set Preemptive (with cap download 70/80/90...or 99%) my speed is slow....very slow....6-7/8/9/10Megabit

But if i set Preemptive with no cap (100%) my speed is fast ....19Megabit...ideal.

I have a adsl in Italy (ISP TIM) 20/1 in fastpath.

Is there a issue with the algorithm?

Forgive me for my horrible English, but I'm an eating spaghetti ;-)

lol, your English is better than most English people! :)

Pre-emptive will slow your speeds quite a lot more than reactive, it's supposed to, nothing to worry about.

But if you leave the anti-flood at 100% then the algorithm will not activate at all, so your speeds will not change. (for both Reactive and Pre-Emptive).

I only have 27mb download but I still use the 'Reactive' algorithm and I find that works fine.

Try it and see how it works for you. But remember that BO3 is quite wobbly now.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

What type of spaghetti did you have?

Preemptive can be like that and shouldn't be anything to worry about, make sure you have device prioritisation reset as well and you may get some more speed back as well. As others have said you can use reactive if you find that is better for you.

I have the fastest dsl connection in my area at 3Mbps in which I get a 100% constant 3.01Mbps and would like to use the congestion control. But after setting my internet speed to the correct speed in the router and using preemptive, decreasing the download slider to 99% results in my bandwidth lowering by a whopping 30% verified using speedtest.net. Reactive decreases it by 4% after moving the slider to 99%. I would like to know what settings you recommend for me in order to sacrifice as little bandwidth as possible on my meager 3Mbps connection.

Not sure on this Codeman...

Do you have other people living there that will be using the internet at the same time?

Will they be just doing regular browsing or will they be bandwidth hogs? (Netflix is pretty greedy for example).

Most of the time it is just me but on occasion I have people over that can cause some interference with my internet usage but I'd also like to set it up to where I can game while looking stuff up on the internet or browse while watching netflix without getting lag. Also if I am gaming and device such as a phone or computer decides to update it can make for a very frustrating experience.

Netflix will actually work with less than 3Mbps as I have done it but this isn't my main issue. I have tried hyperlane however without decreasing the sliders it failed to work properly probably due to there not being a large enough buffer. I have setup things pretty well using qos on dd-wrt on my previous router but without understanding how netduma's algorithm works I can't seem to get decent results.

Hey Codeman, welcome to the forum. Recommend you create your own thread so we can give you dedicated support.

Even though your speed will decrease everyone should be able to use the internet without impacting each other and causing lag. If reactive works for you though then that's great.

Hyper traffic won't need anti-flood to be lowered in order to work. It should only be used for low latency traffic, so just gaming etc.

Alrighty, I'll stick with reactive. I just thought it was weird that the recommended preemptive for low bandwidth connections lowered my bandwidth by 30% after moving the slider just 1% to 99%. Hyper-Traffic definitely did not work for me unless I moved the sliders at least 1% but I guess I can live with sacrificing 4% bandwidth using reactive to get it to work.
