Geofilter won't force connection to specific servers

Recommended Posts

Apologies Fraser, I should have just started a new thread from the start :) I'll copy and paste my last message as it's the most up to date information I have regarding my problem...

"You almost got it... If you wait two minutes then enable something else then obviously you will have to wait 2 minutes again.

This time load the game up without geo filter enabled but everything else set how you want it, when you're sure you have it set up then you goto the multiplayer menu.

Before you start searching for a game make sure to now Enable the geo-filter... then wait two minutes."

"Thanks Yam Yam, and sorry again for the hijack, but this still doesn't work for me. Loaded up the game, turned on the geofilter with strict mode on, PA 0 and my filter covering NJ to Quebec. Waited 10 minutes while I went and made some coffee. Two servers showed up correctly. I got 78ms ping to NJ and 93ms to Quebec, so it looked like it was working. I searched for a game and the fake NJ server came up again, 30ms~ ping, and tonnes of exclamation marks in EU and Saudi (as usual).

I rebooted the game, waited for the two correct servers to come up by pinging them and taking a note of their IDs. I marked the NJ one as "real NJ 80ms~", rated it 100% and white listed it. Same for the Canadian server. When I looked for a game the 30ms one came up, so I named it "fake NJ 30ms", rated it 1% and blacklisted it. The red and green "curtains" showed they were both banned/allowed accordingly.

Restarted again, ensured those dots were still in the red/green, the two correct servers showed up again. Looked for a game, waited 30 seconds, I was dropped into another game with Europeans and Saudis, 30ms ping again. All this despite strict mode, no ping assist, flushing the cloud last night and today, and even rebooting the Duma with cookies enabled to store those settings. I just keep getting the server with ID c76c4a150966383d (PS4). Spoke to Fraser on Twitter to report the ID and he suggested it might be in Italy or France."

I've kept trying to force connection to certain servers tonight and I've found it's only North American ones I have issues with. While the connections weren't great, I set my filter around Netherlands, France and Germany and I was able to find games on those servers just fine. Eventually I gave up trying the New Jersey/Canadian servers and put my home in the ocean to use ping assist only.

Any ideas folks? :(

So let me try to understand this better... You want to play in a US server... Your netduma is putting you in a US server on the maps location but you are pinging 30ms to it so that's not possible?

If I am correct about what I said, then it means you found some mislocated servers.

Also, just because you rate 1 server in one particular location does not mean you won't connect to another server with a different ID in the same location. These places have banks and banks of servers running thousands of games at any point in time. Each one will have a different ID (Or IP address)

Yeah I'm currently just trying to test out connections on different servers. Like I say I have no issues forcing a specific EU server, but trying to play on New Jersey's (this one has given me good results when playing with a friend who lives there) just connects me to an EU server that shows up right there in NJ, even if the correct server shows up when I first load the game.

That server (30ms~) is the one I rated poorly, yet despite blocking it that's the ONLY one I connect to when I set my home in the US. It's always the exact same ID. Obviously at 1% it's on the very far left of the red area, but I still make sure highly rated servers are included in the green and poorly rated ones are in the red. It doesn't make a bit of difference. 500 mile radius around New Jersey, strict mode on, ping assist at 0ms... I connect to that one server and nothing else if I set my home in the US. I'm just trying to find out why I can't force a specific server as many others have done successfully.

When the same first loads, I can ping the NJ server and it will give me 75-80ms which is spot on for the distance. If I look for a game the problem server shows up in the same spot, with its different ID. I simply can't avoid that server if I try to connect to NA servers.

So you've managed to connect to US servers when setting your home location to the US?

When I tired this a moth or so back with the geo location home set as the US and even with filter on I still connected to EU/ servers....should it have worked for me and made me connect to only US servers?

When the game initially loads I can "connect" to all servers just fine; they all show up on the geofilter map. When I look for a game I'm then forced on to an EU server :(

I think I mentioned on Twitter to move your home location to avoid that one you're getting to try and force a different one.

Yeah I tried that mate :( I've tried Quebec, Georgia, Texas, Cali and Seattle servers. Still, that same pesky server appears. Curiously the "fake NJ server" moves location and turns into a padlock if my radius isn't over NJ only? But it still connects me to it...

Hi Fraser. Sorry for the late reply; been a little busy this afternoon/evening.

Strange update: I thought I'd try once more to connect to random servers outside of Europe tonight. At first I set my radius to cover Quebec/Montreal to see if I could connect to the Canadian server before trying various US servers. I set my radius at around 400 miles (strict mode, ping assist 0), barely going down as far as the US border around New York, when I suddenly connected to the New Jersey server. Granted, a couple of those servers have been whitelisted, but as far as I'm aware there are many servers at a single bank and this one had a different ID. Either way it took just 30 seconds for me to find a game of TDM, and otherwise it played just like a regular server. Ping was consistently 80-82ms which in reality should be a 4 bar in any other game, but of course BO3 in game ping is inflated and I barely passed 100ms, so I was on a fluctuating 3-4 bar. It played great for 6 or 7 games until I decided to get off (I was only on to test matchmaking, didn't have a long gaming session planned). To be honest I stopped having fun when Puerto Ricans and even a Peruvian joined the game lol. Up until then I was in a lobby with 11 4 bar players -- something I've seen maybe 30 times out of 3000 games since November on EU servers.

What's strange is I initially forgot to change my filter settings, so I was still using 27ms ping assist with my home in the ocean and minimum filter radius. It was awful as always; getting annihilated by Kuwaitis and Saudis lagging ahead of where I saw them, taking no damage, destroying with inferior weapons, wonky aim assist over them and so on, while I had a nice stable 9ms to the UK server. What's REALLY strange is that when I rage quit a lobby and remembered to change up my filter settings to try and force a NA lobby, I forgot about anti cheat! I simply put my home in Canada, widened the radius slightly, turned off ping assist and then tried to find a game. 30 seconds later I was seeing red dots either side of the Canada/US border, and the NJ server lit up and did that expanding thing. I pinged it and saw 80-82ms. People in my lobbies had 'QC' and 'NY' so I thought I was finally on to something.

I left a couple of lobbies after the match to ensure I could still find games and I could! It just took a little longer to fill the lobby than I'd usually see on EU servers.

Do you have any idea why:

1. The filter would suddenly start letting me into NA lobbies?

2. Why I could connect to NJ when my radius didn't even cross the border into the US, with ping assist at 0 and strict mode on?

3. Why anti cheat didn't prevent me from having to wait for different lobbies?

Thanks :)

1. It sounds like either anti-cheat was in affect or that before it was detecting you being in the UK if settings were not changed to NA before booting up the console.

2. Either anti-cheat or the filter was off most likely.

3. It won't always connect you back to the same one you were in but to prevent even the possibility of that happening you should wait for the map to clear.

I'm happy to still take a look as it sounds weird anyway.

Just to add more madness Fraser mine is still doing this as well. Occasionally after I reboot the duma it will let me move my filter area expand by 500 miles covering UK and eastern European servers. But for 5he most part no matter how long I wait, how many times I reboot it will be set up for a specific area and it will still connect me to a random US server.

Not meaning to thread hijack, just noticed his post was so similar even down to the title of the post. Thought it might help to group together. I know for a fact I'm waiting long enough for anti cheat as well as the filter has been selected as enabled but it's like it's not enabled.

is it actually a US server though or just a mis-located server ID, I often to connect to a US server with a 25ms ping - for me this is obviously a European server which has the incorrect location. They just need to be added to the list in the Cloud Update thread so that Fraser can correct the server location.

I usually camp dallas, I have 30+ IDs for dallas.  occasionally I like to restart the duma move the filter to UK and europe and play with 120-150ms jsut something I/we do.  It used to work flawlessly.  Now it barely works and once I move the filter form the Ocean and slide form 32ms to 0 with strict I always use strict, it just randomly picks a server usually on the east coast, my worst routing.  once that screws up I also cannot conenct to Dallas servers until a reboot of the duma.

**SIDE NOTE*** I still get NAT type failed and cannot connect with bo3 if I accidentally leave the filter on.

Two references should Europe one showed US. I would hazard to guess it's a European mis located server.

I'll do an incorrect cloud as soon as I can
