No internet connection/strict NAT on Xbox One

I'm in a better mood today, I apologise for losing my rag with you yesterday McGrady.

I know from personal experience that networking can be extremely frustrating and that you just want everything to work so you can get on with stuff.

So...

You can access the Netduma admin via wifi from your laptop right?

And you have access to the internet through the Netduma too, yes? (so we know that the modem and Netduma are communicating)

But the Xbox One is giving you grief and is not visible on the Netduma at all (as Fraser said, there's no unknown devices)?

You've got UPnP turned on in the Netduma settings too?

Are you connecting the Xbox to the Netduma with an ethernet cable?

Can you try a new ethernet cable just in case that one is a bit dodgy?

Can you turn off the Xbox and the Netduma and the modem for 5 mins, then restart the modem (and wait a few mins), then restart the Netduma (again wait a few mins), then turn on the Xbox and see if it then connects automatically?

No problem at all, boom.

I can connect perfectly fine via wifi to every device I have.

My Xbox is not visible at all.

I've tried 3 different Ethernet cables.

I've turned off my modem along with the net Duma several times.

I also did a hard reset on my Xbox too-no luck!

This is very strange, let me try to get some of the other technical people to look in here...

We could really do with someone using the same modem as you who has it setup already.

I'm sure it's something really simple but my setup is completely different to yours.

Very odd. I would return the asus though. The duma is way better for gaming. I spent over $600 on routers b4 finding the duma.

Can you use ethernet for your xbox?

Try to manually insert your info into xbox.

Let me know if you need help.

Wait, are you trying to connect the Xbox over wireless too?

That was the ethernet cable I meant to replace, the one to the Xbox.

Then problem sounds like the DCHP is messed up and needs to 'forget' everything.

I've had this before, if you turn everything (everything in the network) off for long enough that the devices all clear their RAM then when you boot them up in order (modem > Netduma > Xbox) then they will reconnect fresh and this usually solves the problem.

Clear the Xbox cache too by unplugging it from the power brick and pressing the 'xbox on' button a few times, then plug it back into the brick and wait for the brick's light to change colour.

You have to leave everything off for long enough to clear the RAM though, 5 minutes is recommend but 10 mins makes sure.

Also, when you turn devices on again you have to give them long enough to boot up fully before the next one gets turned on (again i give them 5 mins).

I have an Asus in my network too - ISP hub > Netduma > Asus > Devices.

But I wouldn't recommend complicating it further until we've found your Xbox.

I also have an Asus in my network it was the last router I got before the Duma.

Trust me though the Duma is better by a long shot for gaming.

It really depends on what kinda gamer you are.

If your more casual then honestly it doesn't matter.

However if you play shooters and you shoot someone and you know you hit yet it doesn't count then the Duma is for you.

I'm around if you need any network help.

I know that most people just wanna plug and play the Duma does need some setup however.

It almost forces you to learn about you network.

Witch is a good thing.

How To Setup Manually-

Goto 192.168.88.1 in your browser

Device Manager

The big Edit Button

Insert your Speeds

Now you can edit IP' for each device (AKA Static IP)

(I like to do this in an order I can remember Xbox One .100, Wii U .101, Phone 102 and so forth)

Ok now the Xbox side-

Settings

Network

(First try this trick- Test multiplayer connection (ok now before the next screen all bumpers and triggers) if done correctly then you'll have a screen that has a bunch of info such as speed ping mtu and nat status. This trick should switch your nat if ever strict.

Now if you can't get an IP on your Xbox try this-

Settings

Network

Advanced settings

Alternate MAC adderss

Clear

or

Settings

Network

Advanced Settings

Manual

IP Settings (insert the ip you used on the router side so .100 or .101 so forth

DNS is 192.168.88.1

If you need any help I'll keep an eye out.

My Asus is just an access point for the 5Ghz wifi anyway - I let the Netduma do the work other than that.

Just checking but doesn't the Duma need to be able to see the Xbox before you can set an IP for it?

That was what I was going to say, boom.

I plan on trying your option in a few hours.

I'll keep an eye out for how you get on, going to play some Xbox this evening (empty house = gaming + eating).

Just make sure you leave everything off for a bit to clear the RAM - otherwise we'll go round in circles (and we'll both get pissed off)

Followed all of those steps-tried all additional ports-used the brand new Ethernet cord provided-used the same Ethernet cable that works perfectly on my Asus router-nothing.

The Duma does not pick it up in the device section.

Unfortunately, no.

Got it to work briefly but then it kept dropping connection and disappearing from my client list.

I've let Fraser know so I'm hoping we can close this out and finish.

It's a weird one this.

I'm sure Fraser will be able to sort you out though
