How can i fix constant wifi drop outs?

Recommended Posts

I'm constantly having wifi dropouts with certain devices around the house, but when i use my ps4, phone, or something else, it works perfectly fine. Only my fathers tablet(s) drops out but nothing else seems to really drop out. Is there a way that I can fix it?

Seems to me if it is only happening with a certain device and not others it could be the device. What is the wireless formats of your dad's devices? a/b/g/n/ac?

We are having an issue with one laptop in our house that will randomly kick out of the Wifi and will not be able to log back in. When I check the connection through the router manage devices setup it says that it is still connected even if the laptop is turned off completely.

What you could do with his devices is cause them to reset up the wireless connection.  Cause them to forget the previous network and connect to your R1 wireless network again.  This may help.

Or it could be interference from some other wireless device.

Here is an article that speaks on reasons for dropped devices.  http://www.linksys.com/ca/support-article?articleNum=140565#c

Be warned it is a linksys article but the reason for drop devices are still valid.  It is a comprehensive article so some of the reasons may not apply to you but it is still good information.  Honestly I really don't think it is the R1 router though.

Just a little added information: I have my R1 set up with second router used only as an accesspoint.  That way I don't use the R1's wireless capabilities.  The R1 router only supports 2.4 ghz which is perfectly fine for some but I need the 5ghz.  The attached router is 2.4 and 5ghz.  When I use it as an access point I am then only using it for its wireless capabilities not the routing capabilities.  I am happy to say I have not had any dropped devices.

Hey monzo, you may be one of the people that actually require wifi workaround to be enabled on the duma. Try that and see if it helps.

Disable wifi on ISP hub as the above could happen.

Also use a wifi analyser to find the least congested channel and change to that.

Hey, welcome to the forum! In future please start your own thread.

Well how do you use the one router as an access point? How do you set that up and how does it work exactly? And I tried wifi workaround and it did nothing, same issue.

Depending on the non-R1 router you have (i.e Asus ) just access the interface from a web browser and enable the function.  Did you have a wireless router before the R1 and if so what brand and model? Please be as specific as possible.  Once you enable that function on the non-R1 router just connect it with an ethernet cord from the R1 LAN port to the non-R1 WAN port.  Hope this makes sense.  It really is not as complicated as it may sound.

I'm still a little confused about the access point thing. I connected both routers together with an Ethernet cable, but I am not sure what exactly is supposed to happen. How does the access point work? Because what I'm trying and thinking of doing is connecting both together using the r1 for gaming and the apple router for the other devices. Is that possible by just using an Ethernet cable? Please explain this better for me

Great. I have apple routers as well.  Ok what you want to do is connect your Modem>R1>Apple Router.  Your ISP modem will connect to port 1 on the R1 router and use any of the other ports to connect the R1 router to the Apple router.  Make sure when you connect to Apple router you connect to the WAN port (internet goes in) not the LAN port (internet goes out).

Go into Airport utility then click on the network tab than change the router to bridge mode.  Make sure you turn the wirless off on the R1 router. There now all your wireless devices will be handled by the Apple router and because it is in bridge mode it is not conflicting with the R1.

Which is your Apple router more like?

  • 1 month later...

Im having serious wifi dropout, i changed the cloud settings that fraser suggested for division game and things have never been right.

whitelist 1

game server 12

map 1

I cant remember the original settings, even if i change them it resets to the above settings and always wifi drop out. Wifi workaround unticked, never had any issues with wifi until i changed this. Also tried different wifi channel, no luck! only temporary fix is reboot which last like few hours.

Also i get a warning pop up saying cannot ping host check you havent been vpn.

I also have a apple router, if i do the above config setup you suggested Buck nasssty can you set how much download upload to give the apple router?

Even better than that, you will still be able to set the bandwidth to the wifi devices that are connected to the Access Point - so you don't lose any of the functionality of the Duma. It works great, I was using this method until last week (I'm having to use my access point for something else at the moment).

I had issues with wifi dropping out on my laptop so changed the security on wifi to WPA PSK2 and hasn't dropped since

Someone else told me this at the weekend, I'm using WPA PSK2 and I don't have any drops, even from my more temperamental devices that usually give me trouble.

For Cloud enable auto & bleeding edge cloud then apply.

Tick wifi workaround and see if that helps, some people actually require it to be on which it sounds like you do as you didn't have issues before that. If that doesn't help try the suggestions above.
