sorry for coming so defensive toward you, its just this is been working very well for me and just want to help others.

How would you set it up?

No, I totally get it man.  No problem. You just want to share your good experience.  The problem is, you are working with A LOT of bandwith, a baseline good connection, and perhaps not as many simultaneous users in your house as some.  It works, but it's not ideal because your Asus router and the Duma are being treated as equal, with neither being set with any priority since both are directly connected to the modem.  If someone were downloading big files or streaming on the Asus, it could steal most of the bandwith and impede gaming traffic coming from the Duma.  Again, you have a lot of bandwith, so not as much of an issue for you if you're not experiencing lag spikes caused by other things on the network.  But as you have it setup, you are really only using the Duma for bandwith throttling and the geofilter, which is still a deadly combination as your BO3 profile shows! lol

For others, this may not be the case.  They will need the advanced congestion control on the Duma for all devices on their network to combat buffer bloat, along with hyperlane for their consoles, device prioritization, the antiflood algorithms, etc. to fully optimize their network traffic.  The combination of those features is really what makes the Duma a beast.

Therefore, for folks to fully use the Dumas features, either all devices should be connected to the Duma directly, or the second router should be connected to the Dumas Lan port so it can still handle all the traffic management effectively.

But if what you have is working for you, by all means, keep kicking ass man!  I wouldn't change anything if you've found a sweet spot for yourself (I've definitely tinkered enough to find mine as well).  I'd play the damn game standing on my head if it gave consistent good hit detection..lol

Love you my netduma brother.

Hey Kitchy, could you please provide us with the screenshots from here http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=lag_support_instructionsand we can help out.

You should be able to achieve your full speeds by entering them in bandwidth settings and allowing the router to auto setup for you.

  • 3 months later...

Hi fellows, I'm new to this forum.  I have been a COD fan for many years and that pretty much the only game I own and play on my PS4.  I like to say I'm a decent player.  My KDR was 2.15 and my Score/Min was 470.  I average around 50-60 kills per game and my top kills were around 91 kills/ and 20 deaths.  I'm usually always on the top as far as score and kills at the end of the game.  Anyways, I recently moved about 20 minutes away to a new home and decided to switch to a different ISP that was offering Fiberoptic 1gb up and 1gb down.  My previous home was a cable modem type of connection offered by Cox Communications that was around 150mbs down and 15mbs up.  However, Cox Communication had a funnel type of connection setup where we would share the same main connection with our neighbors.  Therefore, when traffic was high, our speed would drop.

Now what is interesting is that ever since we switched to CenturyLink's Fiberoptic Gig connection; the lag has been crazy!  I have done the port forwarding, DMZ, hard wired in, and open nat type and still my game play has been horrible.  In less than a week I went from a 2.15 KDR to a 2.11 KDR.  I am no longer on the top at the end of a match and my kills have dropped including my score.  I shoot and my bullets don't connect anymore!  Its like the opponent has a full second advantage over me.  I have seen instant replays and it doesn't even show me shooting when I did.  It is so frustrating.  I understand there will be lag time to time but it has been consistent.  I used to once enjoy this game but now I am cursing at the game and not having fun anymore.  I am so close to just chucking this game out the window and moving on.

It seems the crappier your connection is than the better your odds are in the game?  I am starting to believe that lag compensation is in the favor of people with lesser quality connection.  I see people with 3 bars having better connection than me.  Any advice?  Will the Netduma help?

No, this isn't correct, the technical term for this is 'bollocks'.

As far as I am aware, Lag compensation boogeyman is worked out using players ping and not their bandwidth so your 1 gig down and up will not have a bearing on it.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Speed is irrelevant when it comes to gaming. It's all about the ping. I would find out your base ping (do a speed test when no one is using the internet). I would then use a program called PingPlotter to ping different servers and see how your ping varies. If it varies a lot that will definitely have an effect.

The duma will help with local congestion (with your speeds its less of an issue for you) and will help you get much closer hosts resulting in a lower ping and much better gaming experience.

Thank you all for the response.  My latency time is between 4-5ms on average but sometimes it freaks out at 25-33ms.  Is that normal?  I haven't done the other test you recommend.  I'll give that a shot later.  I thought fiber would have the advantage over cable in regards to faster ping time?  I suppose depends how far I live from the Activision server?  No clue anymore.  LOL  I appreciate everyone's response.  Thank you!

Depends, is that at peak time? Really it shouldn't go up that much if no one is using the internet at the time.

If the line is better then the base ping may be better. How far you live from the server would be an impact - if they connected you to the closest server, which they often don't. Hence why our Geo-filter is useful here.
