Need help with correct settings for NETDUMA

Recommended Posts

I purchased my netduma about 2 months ago and since ive had it my internet drops every day. So for the past week I took of the netduma and just used my regular connection wired to my xbox and everything has been completely fine. My speeds on my xbox one would get me 120 down and 20 up.

So yesterday I decided to try out the netduma again and currently im receiving 79 download and 8 upload.

My ISP is Comcact X1 Extreme 105 so my speeds should be around 100 down 20 up.

Ive tried so many different settings from the WIKI provided in the forums and still having slow speeds with netduma connected. I also get packet loss during the time of 5pm -10pm everyday about 1-10% packet loss.

These are my current settings on my netduma on the newest 1.03.5 version:

Congestion Control:

LAN:

WAN:
http://prntscr.com/9i8866

MISC:
http://prntscr.com/9i88kp

My router is a NETGEAR Gateway C6300 and these are my upstream and downstream values:

I dont have wifi enabled on my NETGEAR, only on my netduma so all my devices are connected through the netduma.
So if anyone can please help fix this problem that would be amazing because I love this product and want to keep using it.

Please verify that you are on the most up to date firmware of 1.03.5m.  Do not run any speed test if the congestion control is not at 100%. It could affect your speed results.  Click the reset and update at the bottom of the prioritization flower under the congestion control tab.

There are some bugs with turbo mode.  Please uncheck.  This may be causing your drops. Under Settings/Misc I would only have these items selected: Allow auto feedback, enable cookies, Stealth Mode

Also in the Cloud Settings select Enable auto cloud and bleeding edge and click apply cloud settings.

Also under WAN and LAN I would change DNS setting to 8.8.4.4/8.8.8.8 and click apply settings.

After all these changes please reboot router from the Setting/Misc menu.

If you need a link for the updated firmware just let us know.

Hope this helps.

Great you have the up to date firmware.  If your R1 is in a dmz or behind another router leave it selected but if the R1 is right behind the modem do not select it.  I hope this make sense.

Put Congestion Control sliders (both upload and download) to 100% for full speed and use Reactive Algorithim.

In Settings > Miscellenous tick "Enable Cookies"

Then set your speeds as 100.00Down & 20.00Up

Set your Geo-filter up.

Only put sliders to 70% when gaming, when not gaming, leave at 100%

If you are seeing packet loss you need to run ping plotter or the netduma diagnostics during the peak time when you are seeing the issues with the netduma inline and then another just with your other router.

https://www.pingplotter.com/download.html

Type 8.8.8.8 in to target and press go.

Hi mate

In terms of speeds please make sure you have anti-flood sliders set to 100% and click reset device prio at the bottom. Then try the speedtest. If it doesn't reach your maximum make sure to follow this guide:  http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=adding_friends_to_your_allow_list

Also make sure you test on wired connection. Wifi introduces a bunch of potential issues.

Finally the disconnects you get, are they on Wifi devices?

Happy Xmas!

This has possibly been answered previously (too many search results to filter quickly), but why do I now need to enable Turbo Mode to get close to the full ISP speed on a 120Mbps connection?

Prior to 1.0.3.5m, I could hit 100+Mbps on the NetDuma using the 120Mbps tweaks (disabling IPv6, Reactive CC etc).

After 1.0.3.5m, the most I can hit is 60Mbps with the same settings. Enabling Turbo Mode (no other settings changed) pushes it back to 100Mbps.

It's not really a problem now that I've figured out what's going on, but isn't Turbo Mode intended for higher bandwidth connections? So why do I need to use it on a 120Mbps connection that worked fine prior to 1.0.3.5m?

I have the same problem with my Telstra BigPond cable connection nut it wasn't an issue with .4.

I'm on Bigpond cable too...interesting.

Not a big deal, just curious if the change was intentional.

That should not be the case antithesis. If you have:

  1. Deep packet processing off
  2. Reactive algorithm select
  3. Anti-flood sliders set to 100%
  4. Most importantly reset device prio and dont change it afterwards

I added download device prio in the 1.03.5m firmware, before then it was always upload only. I think there is a bug some people have found after we released it. In the next firmware it's asymmetric so you down/up prio can differ and also check out the max speeds.

1. Already done.

2. Already done.

3. Already done.

4. Already done.

Toggle Turbo Mode on, I get 110Mbps. Toggle it off, I get 60Mbps. You can see the alternating tests below.

R1-Turbo.png

The only difference is ticking Turbo Mode on and off. Upload speed is consistent, Download varies.

Bandwidth set to 130 Down, 4 Up (I added a bit of headroom to the correct 120Mbps / 2.5Mpbs values).

Anti-flood is 100% for Up and Down. Reactive On.

Device Prioritisation is even across the board (Reset Distribution) with Share Excess enabled.

Settings > Misc = Cookies On, Stealth On, UPNP On, Auto Cloud On, Bleeding Edge On. Everything else is Off. Turbo On / Off, results above.

IPv6 disabled everywhere.

That's very strange. Tbh I'm too far into the new firmware to debug the old one. All of that has changed now. We have assymetric device prio and auto speed setup. So those issues should all be gone soon. Thanks for letting me know though :)

It's not a problem and has zero functional impact on gaming. I almost assumed it was intentional, but thought it best to report it :)
