sabarblade reacted to Netduma Luke in NEW FEATURE ANNOUNCEMENT: CONNECTION BENCHMARK
Having a good Internet line is a vital part of every home- whether it’s getting high speeds for streaming to having a stable line for gaming. But current ways of measuring your line are inaccurate, since they can only run on your home devices and not on your line itself. We designed Connection Benchmark to solve this problem.
Connection Benchmark is a pure test of your Internet line, measuring all the key metrics you care about with extreme accuracy. This lets you find out if you’re truly getting the Internet speeds you pay for, and how high quality the line to your home really is.
Because the test runs directly on your DumaOS Powered router rather than from a PC or phone, it is the most accurate and powerful test of its kind. It cannot be weakened by a poor connection between your device and your router like a normal speed test can, giving you the ultimate insight into your home connection.

Each test you run will grade your line based on your speeds, ping and bufferbloat results, indicating whether there’s a problem and informing your QoS settings. Soon you will be able to find out how your results compare to other people in your region or on your ISP, so you can see how well supported your area is and whether your home falls below average.
DumaOS 3.0 is the biggest update we have ever built, effectively doubling the feature set. Connection Benchmark is just one of many features coming to your router with DumaOS 3.0, so stay tuned for our next feature announcement.

They actually do use this for LAN parties/events/tournaments so I do think this is a very good idea, I'll pass it along to the team!

I have an idea that might have already been put out there but this would be absolutely amazing if it could work, imagine the router is connected with a dedicated hard drive that stores all game updates from call of duty, Battlefield warframe etc. This would be extremely useful if someone has more than one PS4/XB1/PC or is hosting a LAN party so it doesn't use up all the available bandwidth or at least makes it quicker to get games up and running. Just putting this out there, let me know your opinions.

here's a concept of it working on PC

Even though they're in your filter, if you add them to your allow list can you then hear them or do you have to allow that server in the US to hear them?

We did a cloud update yesterday, it should have applied by now but just in case flush the cloud in the Geo-Filter Map (if you get the too long message wait a minute then refresh and it will have applied) so do that and see if you notice a difference.
Also the patch notes wouldn't be very interesting or informative for people and would add more work for us, it would be a very long list of entries like this for example:
    IP 101.39.57.291 moved to lat/long 52.1224, 0.4579 from lat/long 32.2812, 8.3271
IP 101.39.57.291 classified as dedicated server

The next time we need feedback on new features, we'll probably open insiders again.
The beta applications and the insiders group are two seperate things, so don't worry about that.

I play on PC & Console, XIM allows me to play with my friends who are only console gamers with the peripherals I'm comfortable with - Modern Warfare 2019 supports native KB/M on console so I use that instead of XIM  + I'm only playing Public matches, I'm not using it in competitive or anything earning money.

Sony & Microsoft even have licensed KB/M adapters for there consoles, It's not against there Terms of Service.

Are you certain that they've disabled the dedicated server? Are you basing this on whether the icon when you're in game shows as a peer? It might be that it's misclassified as a peer and is actually a dedicated server. Do you have the domain for it and we can check. The ping is the round trip time from the router to the server/host and back again. We could implement something like that but may be for a different feature and not the Geo-Filter ping. We do have plans to add packet loss

Hey Duma Staff, could we see an update to the ovpn client that would allow us as the user to update the client ourselves rather than having it update after every milestone, this would be extremely useful for people wanting to use an OVH as it only accepts the latest version at any given time. If this could be added that would be amazing! Cheers Guys :)

Are you using the OpenVPN files for Linux? DumaOS counts as Linux in this case.
Also we use OpenVPN version 2.3.4 and some ovpn files won't work if they're newer.
So check with The Gamers VPN if they have any 2.3.4 compatible OVPN files, targeted for use on Linux. If needs be you may have to contact them.
If you need any more info, let me know!

    1. I believe so but it is not top of the list so still a quite a few months away at least. Is there anything specific you desire? The obvious one is running a file server of course
    2. We could on some routers but not all and it is not straightforward. Is there a reason you ask?
    3. Sure that is a good idea!
Thanks for the kind words very much appreciated

Sorry I should have been more explicit, I think you emailed someone else and eventually the question reached me. I understand your frustration but we have limited resources (as does every company!) and therefore we must prioritise what we think the customers want. We are developing features that a huge percentage of the #DumaAmry want where as IPv6 (albeit important) is desired by far fewer. It is definitely on the roadmap we just have a few other features we want to get out first. Hope you understand. And it is not a political sidestep at all, I have no interest in doing that.

We're very happy with our NG relationship, they make in my opinion the best quality router hardware and have an excellent team.
Thanks for the feedback, I think we should be able to find away to ping different servers via a button on the UI. The problem would be determine the server set for different games but it is probably feasible.
I hear you on the traceroute, my initial idea for the Geo-Filter actually used filtering by number of hops. This ended up not working, I'm based in the UK and I found that I'd get to NYC in less hops than I would to Scotlan in some instances. That inspired me to develop the Geo-Filter based on IP mapping which required huge compression and was a load of fun to develop,  alas I digress....

Sure, I think we will do that soon
That's a good idea. We are doing heavy research into improving QoS that people should see the benefits from soon

We could add a ping plotter/ping route R-App, it could be useful to see what parts of your packet's trip are causing lag. We could look into adding a third 'spectate' type to allow/deny enable watching server without impacting the rest of the geofilter, or adding another panel which hosts a list of servers that it pings. Thanks for the suggestion.

VLan is definitely a useful feature, we plan on adding it in a later version.

We are definitely interested in expanding the appeal that our routers have. Parental controls would be a nice addition to DumaOS, it could have features like periods of time devices can access the internet.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by not supporting a Nintendo Switch, you can configure your Nintendo Switch devices in the device manager and the R1 allows full port forwarding from 1 - 65535 on both protocols. We don't currently have DMZ in our R1 firmware but we do plan to add it in a later version.

Could DumaOS have some sort of Ping Plotter built in? If so that would be great! Also could we have some sort of game server status to check if servers are online or offline?
